In middle-school I was incredibly hooked on the Wii release: Animal Crossing - City Folk.
As a "casual" gamer, I love how chill it is, and that you can't actually lose.

As for the original Gamecube Animal Crossing, I've just played it briefly with friends. The only plus compared to the later releases seems to be the NES games, which is a fun novelty but ultimately unnecessary for someone who plays actual NES carts anyway haha.

5/10

I tried to play it back when but it never resonated much. Didn't hate it but also wasn't at all enamored.

I love me some Stardew Valley and Minecraft, but those games have some Semblance of goals. Animal Crossing really doesn't. I'm a pretty casual gamer nowadays so maybe I'd dig it more, but even still it seems much too so for me.

6/10. Nowadays there's hardly any reason to play this other than by nostalgia or curiosity if you like the more modern releases.

9/10 if we're talking about New Leaf. I'm done with it, but at some point in my very adult life I'd set various alarms for myself during the day to make sure I'd catch specific bugs and what not. I was big in the collect-o-thon and chilling, not so much in the home decorating or village building.

I see what people are up to in New Horizon and my brain goes into overload just trying to think about all the work that's required to get even half of that done.

BONUS:

I had never played Animal Crossing when this Internet came up with this:

Now that I've played Animal Crossing, this is 10000x sadder in a f**ked up way.
