NES kung fu looping

I reached something like the fifth or sixth loop in A mode when I rolled the score for the first time recently. The game gets a lot harder in later loops. For example, the knife throwers are faster, there are more enemies, the Magician and Mr. X fights get tougher, and the moth patterns get much more difficult.

B mode starts pretty hard though.

I remember playing through it at least 2 or 3 times on mode A as a kid wondering if youd eventually get to an ending. I barely beat B. Finished with zero lives and died on floor 2 with around 200k on loop 2. Want to keep working on B, but now you have me wondering if I could roll the score on A...

If you're trying to roll the score, remember the 12th hugger bonus. If you jump kick the 12th enemy and he's a hugger, you get 5k.

The second stage is the most lucrative for point pressing because the dragons and exploding disco balls are worth a lot of points.

I've only beaten Game A but I remember reading on GameFaqs that the dragon icon keeping track of completions glitches out after a while:

When you beat the game the first time, it will display a 1 beside the level,
and when you beat it AGAIN, it goes to 2 and so on. But, strange things
begin to happen when you really get rocking. Take a look at what's displayed
the higher you go in the chart.

I learned about the hugger a few days ago and Im using it on the first level and usually on 2 or 3 as well, but no more to be conservative.

Im killing the dragons at 2k a piece but too afraid to go for the disco balls. I had never used jump kick on this game and its still somewhat hit or miss

Edit: is there a way to get the 12k with the short enemies?

Definitely seems harder as I advance, but I haven’t done any real analysis. Could just be fatigue. Kung Fu is one of my favorites but I have only made it to the beginning of loop 3.

I trust @mbd39 as he’s a good and observant player.

Yes, it definitely gets harder. I am having trouble getting through loop 2. The level 3 and 4 bosses get much harder. Havent made it to the last guy yet. Scoring well if I could get good enough to progress well.

Got to loop 4 and cleared the halfway point on rolling the score. Im sure Im still a lifetime away, but its starting to feel possible. @mbd39, what loop were you on when you rolled it?

I think it was loop 5 or 6 but it's been a while.

EDIT: I found an old post of mine where I mentioned rolling the score. Looks like it was loop 5 after all.

"I rolled the score in Kung Fu , guys! Finally! By some miracle I reached the fifth loop and got around 25k after flipping the score."

I can usually hit a million points late in the fourth loop on a good run. It seems like I could get between 250-300k points per loop.
