You make little Cubone sad.

POKEMON

Aw c'mon - you can't just post adorable-ised fan-art! I'm going by the original Pokemon renditions (although by that metric, the original pre-streamlined Pikachu design isn't quite the same level of cute, either).

And I did say that I like Cubone much more than Pikachu - just trying to respond to the prompt honestly, here.

That could explain it. If more of you were Millennials / Gen-Z, I'm sure Pokemon would be a ubiquitous facet of your childhood, too.

As an insufferable nonconformist, it hurts my soul to admit this, but ...

... I think the cutest Gen 1 Pokemon might just be Pikachu.

(Granted, my favorite Gen 1 Pokemon are Magnemite and Cubone, but I wouldn't say they're the cutest.)

Also - I'm shocked at how many of you aren't Pokemon fans. I thought we were all retro-game nerds, here!

Yeah, these games really are weird how hard the line of being “to old” to enjoy them most of us are when they came out.  I also don’t think it was because I was a jaded teenager who had to be too-cool-for-school to like a kids game.  I was into TCGs but no one got into Pokémon and when the game came out, as an RPG it just felt basic.

I wish that weren’t the case.  I think I was just old enough, with enough RPG experience to see the game as bland and uninspiring.  But for a young generation, many who had probably never even experienced a JRPG, I could see why it might be super-fun.
