I really like Galaga, but apparently I suck nuts at it. I haven't even been able to get 100k let alone over 200k. I also suck at hitting all the enemies in the challenging stages.

    Haven't started Commando yet.

Commando seems like it should be so easy. You know exactly what you have to do. But somehow I manage to die and die and die

@BlackVega Nicely done.  All the way through Volcano World on 1 life is dedication!

    @NESfiend I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.

Ah fuck it, I'm angry too.     😉

Fair. I could give you a long story about being out of town all this week and what it took to get ready to get out of town that long during some big litigation, but its no excuse. I am not done in this tournament. If it makes you feel any better, I have been racing some. Spent too much time today playing Mario Kart 8 with my son. The weather in northern michigan called for a day inside and we made the most of it.

I've come to like these golf games a bit.  So I might very well play it some more at some point.  It's sort of relaxing compared to almost everything else I tend to play.

Funny you say that about golf games as you are also a big racer fan like me. I love NES golf games and I play them more and more as I get older. They go really well with a beer, background tv, and being too tired for fast action.

During rad racer week in the contest, there were two or three nights where I didnt get my nes fired up until 11 p.m, dead tired. Played one race and concluded I didnt have it in me to get anywhere, so I said fuck it and played a few rounds of NES Open (my favorite nes golf game). I cant race half asleep and beer buzzed, but I can shoot 63 or 64 on 18 holes and occasionally throw in a hole in 1.

In the last year or 2, I have changed my answer to "whats your favorite game" to NES Open. In optimal conditions, that wouldn't be my first game choice. But it only seems fair to call it my favorite when I play that as much as all the other games put together in my old age

This week's contest is now dedicated to RH's mom.

Shouldn't it be dedicated to RH? He is the one who suffered as a result of her getting addicted to her kids' video game. When the rest of the world was getting SNES's, he was going to church to pray the addictive video games away

Planning for the tournament has begun.

So I had an idea in that regard. Would probably be better if we were to do it to start next year, but Ill lay it out for comments.

I think it would be cool if the tournament comprised of a handful of games we played during the season. Those could be selected in secret before the season starts if we are worried about giving particular players an edge. Or not if you wanted to choose games that drew the most participation, the closest score results, or maybe a game you feel like has real quality that the field just overlooked.

But this would give a real incentive for players to participate each week and actually get good at the games rather than throw up a participation score.

It would also be a really fun reveal which games will be included. Imagine this year if it was revealed that we were replaying rad racer for example when son many of us got into it in the season and all the top scores were right there. I know I am not the only one that felt like "if I just had ONE MORE day!!" Tourney could give that second chance.

And with the tourney falling around thanksgiving, it would allow someone who participated loyally in the season BUT is short on time because of travel/family obligations to meaningfuly participate because he/she is already proficient from participating during the season.

Just food for thought. Take it or leave it as you wish

I wish I could weigh in. I have never actually played it. My little brother has raved about it to me a time or two. He says its pretty damn good. The problem is I have never had a DS. Not much of a handheld guy.

Edit: and props for the change of venue reference. We have a right to change of venue or change of judge or both. Its a monster part of defense strategy here. If I were making a video game on defense lawyering, those decisions would be integral

@NESfiend why didn’t you guys talk on the ride home?

It wasnt that I was mad or anything like that. It just shook us up hard. We were grilled separately, then left in empty interview rooms, grilled again, left again. Then they took me out to where the car was and told me they were going to take the engine out because people put drugs in there. And if they werent there, they would rip up all the upholstery. And they didn't give a shit if they left the car inoperable and had no obligation to put anything back together.

It all seemed like hours and hours even though it probably wasn't. It was starting to get dark when we finally pulled out. Some scary shit when you are 20 and just went out for a weekend where you could drink legally. My gf, now wife, drove up with us. Cant remember why but she took a ride back with some other girls. Still grateful for that coincidence. Id still be hearing about it from her

Me trying to enter Toronto just for the strip clubs:

I used to go to Windsor in college some because you could drink and gamble at 19 instead of 21. Got stuck at the border coming back once because a buddy had used my car and smoked weed in it the day before. Dog hit and they kept us for what seemed like eternity. Seperated us and grilled us.

They couldn't find anything because there was nothing, but that only seemed to make them more angry. Threatened to take the engine out of my car and not put it back. Then at some point, a door opened up and my car was there ready to go. The guy I was with and I hardly spoke the drive back to MSU. No skinny story, but one I won't forget

I've had various issues that require having an attorney on retainer that's licensed in Ohio and Kentucky since I've got records in both states (sounds like a followup @Reed Rothchild interview in the making so I might beat @Gloves for most depressing interview). The Ohio River is the only thing that seperates Cincy from KY so it's just a quick trip across the bridge from one state to the other and easy to get in out of state trouble since Newport is pretty awesome. I've got a clear record now, but I don't know what Canada's lookback period and how they treat felonies vs misdemeanors.

I have a pretty thorough brief on what prohibits entry. If you ever did decide you want to go up there, I could send it to you.

Again not officially legal advice, but one of the things that generally makes entry discretionary (meaning you wont know until they say yes or no at the border) or prohibited are offenses punishable by ten years or more under CANADIAN law. Thats why DWIs are most commonly the problem.

A DWI 1st offense w/no aggravated factors like accident, injury, etc is a misdmeanor in the US, and gazillions of people from all walks of life have them. But that offense apparently carries up to 10 years in Canada, so it makes you criminally inadmissible.

I seriously doubt people get that on a first offense without injury there, but it is in their range of punishment. So its a really common problem for a people who need to go to canada on business but will likely be denied entry because of a DWI they got in their youths.

I don't think I can even legally enter Canada.

DWI I assume? I thought you may be able to solve that with an expungement if you ever wanted to check out the great white north, but it looks like even a dwi 1st is never expungeable in Ohio, (per a quick google search only, this is NOT legal advice).  Pretty harsh

Equally harsh is spy hunter. I played for 10 minutes last night and rage quit. I was angrier than a Jets fan

Freaking choked, man. Not that I was getting a 24k score anyhoo.

Know the feeling. The eastern time zone gave me a window ending at 11 instead 10. I had 2 notches left on the last race and blew it. 1100 shy of doug though so I doubt I get close even if I hadnt crashed

Edit: @PIIgets me by 400 points NOOOOOOO
