  1. Yea too late, I had already tried to clean it causing the smear, initially I thought the swirls were mold. It's definitely something on the plastic, it's just an overhead with the logo printed on then slid behind red glass. I've managed to get it decently clear with just iso alchohol, elbow grease and boatload of special flat qtips. The kerosene heater sounds like its a definite possibility after doing more reading. The inside of the controllers also had some kind of film on them. Going to finish up tomorrow and swap out the other controller. Just need to figure out how to get composite video from the DB9 cord and I'm good to go. Even got the reset working on the original system.
  2. I tried using windex and that did help to a degree but I was nervous using it near the sign part. Never thought of the gloves, I did feel a bit gross after but just thought it was either the windex or the iso alchohol. Doesnt really smell like smoke, I just assumed it was in someones garage at some point and they smoked in there. The controllers also match smoke stain, they are stained on the back so its not UV. I had no idea that a kerosene heater could yellow something. Going to try dishsoap tonight, otherwise I might just have to painfully take like 10 hours with qtips cleaning it off with windex.
  3. Made a separate topic but looking to get nicotine grime off the inside of a Snes kiosk, especially the red top sign. The clear part just smudges when cleaning it, appears to be an old transparency so I don’t want to take off the powder coating. Anyone have any ideas?
  4. Recently picked up my grail, a Snes kiosk. It had some what appears to be nicotine staining on it. I’ve replace one of the golden controllers and you can see the difference. I took the top sign off to clean inside, you could see some swirls when it was on. Took out the clear part that sits behind the red. Started to try and clean it and it started to smear everywhere. I’m looking for advice on how to clean what appears to be a film of nicotine without taking off the black part of the sign from the transparency. I don’t want to permanently wreck the sign trying to clean it. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
  5. Are there any pieces off the monitor that people usually need for parts. When it comes time to take off the shell, the monitor is probably going in the garbage, but I’d be open to stripping parts that someone might need to get theirs going.
  6. That sounds like a good plan, gonna give it a try this weekend. The speakers still work perfectly, just need to open the light and clean the inside, and swap out the controllers. I'm pretty sure they are original and gross as hell. The console is original but the reset doesnt seem to be working even though its plugged in, going to have to trouble shoot that as well. I dont really want it resetting but I would like to get it all back into working order as much as possible. Thanks for the help. It's unfortunate the original TV was smashed, considering using the case in a project.
  7. Mine is currently apart but here is the version I have. Do you know which pad the video goes into? On yours it looks like the one on the right. Mine has a key as well, although I’m pretty sure they are generic and can be bought cheap from anywhere.
  8. Thanks for the response, I double checked my board inside and they dont have the connectors yours does. It looks like yours were put in maybe after? Mine just has the spots for them with the bare pads. Wonder if that means I can solder some in. When I get home I'll upload a pic. I love working on kiosks, this is my 10th, but this one seems to have a lot more going on internally than the others I have.
  9. Ok, is there any world where you can use the internal speaker with the video for a crt? I can make a new post about it as I also have other questions, just wondering with the amount of people that have needed a replacement tv if anyone had come up with a solution to have video to new crt, but sound to internal speakers
  10. Is there any connector that can attach to the DB9 end that gives you regular video out for a replacement tv? I picked up my grail last night, this kiosk, but the monitor was broken. I'd like to use the external speakers of the kiosk while running a yellow AV cable to the tv. I was wondering if this would work: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/VGA-3-Rca-to-DB9-Male_60825767815.html?spm=a2700.7724857.normalList.51.32e271e0Zq5lam
  11. Cool, if there’s any other info you are after let me know. I don’t know how “rare” this version is, but I have yet to see one with the micro PC that runs Linux. This kiosk was taken out of a closed down store shortly after the Wii U launch from what I was told. It appears to be the type of unit people were discussing they saw running Linux before the actual consoles made it to the store. Still a lot of mysteries.
  12. I have one of the hard disk demo consoles. I started a breakdown of the files on the hard drive but life happened and ran out of steam. I found the USB key locked inside the kiosk itself, from the files I've sent a few other people more knowledgeable than myself, the hard disk was filled with about 200gb or so of demos and other files. Demo console has demos already loaded on it. I has a separate contained micro computer attached to it which appears to be the place new demos and files were downloaded to then uploaded by a USB cable to the demo console as it doesn't have a disc drive. When the box is plugged into the TV: When the usb key is plugged in: Some files I could grab off the hard drive https://drive.google.com/open?id=1v1dtzLtgWlrs-aJPrTs9sQ9Zcu9NIsf6 - client updateshttps://drive.google.com/open?id=19woHY8AMfLSncppOJ6iAMZZjZp0ZprYr - 10% of the demo fileshttps://drive.google.com/open?id=1EUGjWE6d7sl6j5rQk27KmKLuI2nBsrLJ - SDK demo filehttps://drive.google.com/open?id=1pFb8H4b324XTH0sFcOduCZMaLSFfKVRB - firmware updatehttps://drive.google.com/open?id=1lSNGcpFZk5vGEUryWYotMHW5yDLtG2eO - video the 4 folders above go in contents of SEShttps://drive.google.com/open?id=1nTryG-XrixRt7kewBD-hGrZScTmEIZy5
