  2. That reminds me... has anyone figured out the cheat code? When I originally purchased mine I sent the creator a PM thanking him and he mentioned there was a code hidden in the manual to give you extra lives. I see some odd notes throughout the pages that indicate a possible code, but I’ve never been able to figure it out.  Where the StarKeeper players at?

  3. I also got a regular edition at the time of release. While I’ve recently considered selling mine, I just can’t let go of it, especially considering there is no rom in existence to play it. It’s pretty addicting for any NES game, especially a homebrew. Maybe someday the creator will release a digital version for all to enjoy... seems highly unlikely. 😞

  4. Ok, new site so let’s go back to the basics. Also, just have fun with this, it’s impossible to include everything in 15 titles. Anything on the system counts (home brews included).

First (1-5): List your top 5 favorite (nostalgic) games on the NES. Doesn’t matter if they sucked. You played em. You love em. List those 5 first.

Second (6-10): List what you deem to be the greatest 5 titles of the whole catalog. If it’s considered 8-bit and plays on the system, it counts.

Third (11-15): List 5 games you never knew about (or never played early on) and now absolutely love.

    1. Bigfoot

    2. Sqoon

    3. TMNT 2

    4. Anticipation

    5. Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt (a small cheat, but hey, they were on the same cart)

    6. Legend of Zelda

    7. Contra

    8. Super Mario Brothers 3

    9. Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers

    10. Baseball Stars

    11. Metroid

    12. Kirby’s Dream Land

    13. Ufouria

    14. Tetris

@portabello  Nostalgia as for playing or more from the window shopping?

Typically more for playing. In the past I have bought some titles purely for nostalgia (despite them being awful games)... I’m looking at you Toys for the SNES. I first and foremost will spend money on an item that’s nostalgic and care less about the price. If the item isn’t particularly one I’m fond of or grew up with, I’ll wait until I can snag a deal, despite it’s “rarity”.

  6. I used to do a raffle of sorts on NA that wasn't actually a real raffle because it was free to play and just like with an Auction, only the winner was asked to pay for the item. I called it the Low-baller Raffle Auction and the intention was that you could get a decent item for a low price simply based on luck. However, if you were willing to pay more for the item, then you would post in the thread requesting for more entries. ie, 1 entry = $5,  so your "bid" was how many entries were you wiling to pay for if your name ultimately got picked.  I used a public online randomizer so anyone could see the results of the drawing afterwards.

I stopped doing it because I don't have as many cool items to give away for low prices these days. But still a fun idea for VGS to consider, where the winning item $$$ goes back into the site.

Ronald Jenkees is one of my favorite self-made/YouTube musicians and I always felt he deserves more recognition. While some may already be familiar with his work, I feel you all would appreciate his style as it's mostly instrumental electronic and could easily be paired with a video game. If you like his stuff, support him by picking up an album download or subscribing to his YouTube channel. I've linked my favorite tracks below as an introduction, so give some a spin and let everyone know what you think. https://ronaldjenkees.bandcamp.com/

  8. They are like the Pitchfork.com of graded video games. I can see where they have an enthusiastic perspective that’s deeply rooted in the hobby, but personally I can’t get on board with their “point” system. Seems too big of a grading scale. What’s the difference between and 9.3 and 9.4? Seems subjective and way too specific. I respect the effort to make competition and give the whole market a variety of opinion, but based on what I’ve been seeing, it’s not for me. I also completely hate the look of the acrylics... too many curves and weirdness that takes always from the artwork and entire piece.
