Start building smaller, more realistic habits in your routine and slowly challenge yourself to keep up and add to it. Easier said than done, but just start with baby steps and you’ll be running before you know it. 

I recently set a goal for myself to read 1 new book a month. I think it’s realistic and I’m already 2 months in. 12 books a year is wayyy more than the 0-1 I normally read.

I’m also a fan of visuals. Make a daily, weekly, or yearly checklist and actually print it out, tape it to the wall and check the boxes. It can be a really simple but effective reminder.

Did you play any of these? Regardless of price, which of these was the most fun to play? I’m an interested buyer.

I think you've got a smart idea there... I've come to realize that I will be long dead before finishing every game I want to play. We only live about 4,000 weeks. Dark, yes... but it made me get my priorities straight.

I actually think it’s a great idea for a players’ collection. Classics titles that deserve to be handled over and over. Higher priced rare stuff, not so much.

I do go to that book off once and a while and have seen prices going down lately. They can be really hit or miss. I’ve seen common stuff like Mario N64 price $150+ and then rarer items undervalued. It’s like they haven’t really figured out their audience.

As a “collector” who owns a physical copy, I care less about the value and am definitely in favor of more players getting to experience the game, by whatever means (digital release, physical re-issue, sequel, etc).

2010 - Was hit by a huge nostalgia bug after finding Sonic 2 CIB for $2.99.

2011-2012 - Bought everything I used to play as a kid… mostly NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. lots of carts, some CIBs

2013 - Branched out hard in NES home brews, carts, consoles, CIBs, etc.

2014 - My “peak” in collecting… most items in total I have ever owned. Hunting often, doing trades, meeting folks. 

2015 - got into everdrives and modded consoles. I stopped buying physical games for the most part.

2016 - sold off most of my collection and only kept the favorites.

2017-2021 - went dark, played what I had and was content. Re-purchased items I had sellers remorse over.

2022-2023 - slowly curating a modest collection for the long haul.

…while I feel like a true collector at heart, I can fully acknowledge that my path was very much a “bandwagon” one. Hey, I’m happy with the jewels I collected along the way. These past 10+ have been fun

I’d leave it alone. Game title is intact and both of their faces are nearly all there. A repro label would just make one think the whole cart is questionable IMO. Besides, ugly carts need homes too.

…crazy? No. Crazy was in 2016 finding about 10 mint sealed SNES games and rather than “investing” myself I brokered a deal with an NA member and took a finders fee. In retrospect, I should have nabbed those, oh well.

To some extent, grading is just simply a way to authenticate something so that you can more easy give it monetary value. As someone who cares less about the monetary value of a collectible, I prefer CIB in a non-permanent acrylic case. Grading (and the anticipation of the reveal) is really just a muse for most. I can understand the way it protects the item more permanently, but it’s just plastic, people can still break it open, and do.

My advice, go for variety. My collection has no complete sets and is simply a smattering across the board. I have a couple VGA graded games, some CIBs, GameBoy carts, modified consoles, Sega carts, PC games, about 10 NES home brews, magazines, everdrives, handhelds, etc. The point here is I could fit my whole collection in a couple tubs if I wanted. But every time I look through things, it’s a huge nostalgia rush and tons of fun to play. Sure some of my items are high end, but I’m also patient and prefer quality over quantity. There are still deals out there, but the market  has just been rising every year over the last 10yrs. Good luck!!

How do you know he is dumping the games? 

IMO… to make a prototype appear like a retail product defeats the point of a “prototype”. I guess some might consider it a beta version of the game or something, but I would just leave it alone or make clamshell art to store it in. To each their own, it’s a cool item regardless.

...according to my gmail, I received shipping info directly from him on 10/24/14 for my RE copy. Kinda cool that he sent it out personally! I didn't have any real dialogue with him other than some NintendoAge private messages (which are long gone). All we talked about on NA was his overall concern on the best method for selling the game to the NA users (and others in the US). If I remember right his English was good, but not great, understandably. He seemed kinda overwhelmed with the whole process of getting the copies distributed. Given the circumstances, it's wild to think these even made it to the US.

My brother had one of those worm lights… I always thought it was so goofy lookin’ but secretly I wanted one!
