It will be a cold day in hell when I ever play through this game again, now that I've got it done for my personal list, but Orb-3D has been completed.  What a friggin' slog that was; those last two levels... Yeesh... 😬

That's on my one and done list. Yeah, the last couple of levels are brutal

Yeah Incredible Machine was great - on PC. However, I have it on 3DO and it's a real pain in the ass. Similarly, Lemmings is good on PC, it's just the NES port that sucks. Now that you're a fellow "Nintendo Lemming Master", I can let you into our inner circle. We have meetings every 3rd Tuesday of the month.

Yeah, but that sweet SNES mouse could have been used quite effectively.

Let me know where those meetings are so I can be as far away as possible each month

With L'Empereur, starting on scenario 1 is the only real way to do it.  Later scenarios are just making the game shorter.

Don't disagree, but that same logic could be applied to a lot of the winning conditions. For instance, I just skipped 50 levels of Lemmings since the winning conditions doc suggests doing so.

  4. Since I see there has been some "competition" in the Koei block, I'm going to start on L'Empereur. I want to beat every Koei game on highest difficulty, so I'll start with Scenario 1.

If anyone really was feeming to beat this one, let me know, and I'll pick another one and still beat it for fun later in the year 🙂

  5. Lemmings is done.

I used to love The Incredible Machine from Sierra / Dynamix on the PC, but this game is really a chore compared to that. Even when you know what to do, it's more of a battle against the NES controller and wonky interface. After 10 levels of the game, it's like "I get it, enough already."

Man, if the Incredible Machine were ported to SNES back in the day, that would have rocked ass.

There are a few levels where you have to be pixel-perfect. When I beat it (see my signature), I swear there were some times when I didn't do anything different but for whatever reason the game gave a slightly different result. So there is a lot of luck involved as well. Unfortunately the NES version isn't very good. Good enough for a casual play, I guess, but glitchy and not play-tested. Lemmings 2 on SNES is a lot better, I think.

I got through the first 25 easily, and started to get bored with the next group, so I'm going to skip to Mayhem and just brute force to the end.

I actually got through the first 25 before realizing the "strategy" of pausing the game and moving your cursor instead of just white knuckling it 🤪

Ok, NOW I finished Kings Quest V.  I remembered hardly ANYTHING about this game after I beat it years ago.  Def harder and wonkier than I remembered.  Of course where I messed up was, usually when you open something that has an item in it, Graham automatically takes it, except the leg of lamb, and since I opened the chest but didnt take it, I didn't have it, making me locked out of a puzzle later in the game.  I also got very confused at the end when you have to steal the power of the guys wand and every time it completed, he automatically killed me.  That happened 2x and I thought it was a glitch or I messed up, but just bad timing.  Not that fun, go play Maniac Mansion instead.

Mordack can appear randomly when you're doing the wand transfer thing. He can be a real dick the whole time you're in his castle, so you have to be careful about saving yourself into a reset.

It's a shame because KQV is such a good PC game, and this port was a total fiasco.

Even though it makes you lose, I love eating the meat right in front of the starving bird just to f with him.

Uncharted Waters is done. GrizzJizz69 has saved the princess and become King of Portugal.

It took a lot longer than last time. Anyway, I'm going to wait a few weeks before starting another Koei game.

This is a good game to zone out, smoke some cigars, and listen to the Eric the Midget Red Carpet Saga on loop while you're slowly sailing around the world over and over.

I beat al Unser's Turbo Racing. Super easy if you play as Al, and not too bad even if you don't

    Gemfire time!

Edit: Wow just noticed this is a 10 point game! I suck at racing games and can blow through it in 1/2 hour. (Something to keep in mind for next year 🙂

It's Turkey that's attacking me, and I'm stuck on the east coast of Africa.  I suppose I could try sailing east and see what happens, as I've only attempted to sail west so far.  I also don't mind waiting a month or two to drop hostility, but I don't really want to burn quite so much time.

Edit: Going east did the trick.  Turkey had no presence east of the middle east, so i just hit a couple ports in the spice islands, circled around the southern  tip of South America, and by the time I got back to Lisbon, the hostility dropped below 50.  I appears that once it hits 50, warships are sent after you, but once it's in the 40s they're called off.  So killing two months taking the long route cleared things up for me, and helped boost fame further.  And now I know not to convert every damn port I come across 😆

Turkey will never be particularly friendly to you, due to historical reasons. You may even need to bribe to get into their ports later in the game if you need to go there for a fetch quest (saving before entering the port is a good idea since you can also get arrested).

Hey, since you're one of the very few others who like Koei as much as myself and @Dr. Morbis, if not more so, I wonder if you can help me with an issue I'm having on Uncharted Waters.  I'm currently working on the Genesis version, and I made the mistake of investing in too many Turkish ports in the Middle East.  My hostility is up to 53, and there's now a few fleets chasing me. Although I can usually get away for a few screens, I seem to occasionally get unlucky enough that he spawns on me and attacks immediately.  And since my ships are outfitted with the minimum crew and no guns, that makes for instant death.  Basically, I need to know how low I need my hostility to go to get them off my ass, and if there's a faster way to drop it than waiting in a port for several months (hostility appears to drop by 3 every month).  I'm not quite far enough along to desire switching to combat (I actually don't like the combat in this game, and would rather trade/explore/invest my way to victory and switch for the final mission).

What country is attacking you? You put yourself into a tough bind by making friends with the Turks.

If you can escape out of the Mediterranean and lie low and invest in other ports for a while, things should calm down. But it sounds like you'll just have to arm up and blast out of the situation for the time being. Money's never really an issue in the game after you get some coral, so you can always disarm after the crisis is over.

    @Khromak

I guess I'll have to do All Pro Basketball again this year. I'll share some specific tips after I re-familiarize myself with it.

I've had thoughts of tackling Gemfire and Shingen the Ruler, but that interface is just... overwhelming. Let's go ahead and tag the master in: @Daniel_Doyce

Of all the Koei games left, Gemfire is by far the easiest. Give it a try man!

I may have some time to do some games around the Thanksgiving holiday. I moved this year and haven't really unpacked anything in the last 10 months.

I forget, does each month's Playmate get to be on the cover or the centerfold...or both at the same time?  That must be quite an honor as Wikipedia sees fit to recognize all of them with their own articles!

Once in a while, and sometimes on different covers than their centerfold issue.

She was also featured in Playboy.....or so I've been told 😉

Twice, actually, and she was on the December 1984 cover.

Her Three's Company alumna / replacement, Priscilla Barnes, is the March 1976 Penthouse Pet of the Month. She posed under a pseudonym well before she was widely famous. I have that issue somewhere in my "archives."
