I beat it years ago but I don't remember a helicopter? Im about 60% done but what's getting tough is the Phantom missles work great in the air, but then you'll have difficulty in the 'ground' areas from all the rockets locking on and shooting you down.
Sorry, it's been a while. I was thinking of the Harrier. I still stand by the normal gun working well in the ground areas, especially in later leves, though.

Working on Ultimate Air Combat. Probably gonna do a few missions a day.
This game is fun. I had to use the helicopter to have any chance of shooting the planes down, and mostly used the machine gun in the ground phase to jizz on the targets, especially in the later levels.

According to the requirements document: Beat the game on a single credit to get the ending screen
There are 50ish levels IIRC, you can pick any level you want to start on, and when you beat it to moves to the next one in the series. I played through the levels one at a time, "continuing" as I lost all my lives, and when I finished the last level it just kicked me back to the menu or started over at level 1, IDR which. If you want to actually get the ending, you need to do the whole thing without running out of lives.
You get 1 life per level you complete IIRC, and it might escalate if you do multiple levels in a row and/or there might be points-based lives, but it's REALLY easy to lose a whole bunch of lives in a row on a single level and there are a massive amount of levels, including some really tricky ones. Completing the whole thing in 1CC is a real challenge. I attempted it last year a few times and got to like...level 10. It makes sense as the completion requirement for this contest though, since that's the only way to trigger the ending.
There are 60 levels, but the rest is correct. You can get 2 balls in one stage by doing "perfect" play, but that's pretty hard.
I'm getting pretty good at it, and am hoping to do a full run tomorrow. Basically you need to accumulate 20+ lives in the first 20 stages and then hope for the best after that. If you don't have that many, may as well reset.

Lunar Pool is definitely a skullf*ck, but I'm getting better at it. The fact you can practice any stage individually is a big help.

I'm curious how we could even work a ruleset for Koei games that would work. Maybe Uncharted Waters, maybe, but odds are it just won't work.
I could see you do well in the puzzle genre though
How about total # of cities conquered after 20 hours of L'Empereur? I'm sure everyone will LOVE that idea

Can you PLEASE join in on the weekly contests this year?
1. We need players.
2. We need more entertainment. Your posts are always the funniest shit ever.
@Gaia Gensouki should join in as well. Id suggest @nerdynebraskan too, but I know the photo requirements are a problem for you
I'll think about it, but it's really a matter of free time. Plus I suck at most non-nerdy games.
Is this the year a Koei game makes the weekly challenge? @BeaIank

Ok, I am starting to understand Lunar Pool. Instead of trying to go apeshit with every shot, just take it easy. Groundbreaking, I know.
I'll play through all the stages and then try to put a clean run together.

I'm going to screw around with Lunar Pool. I've tried it a few times before and failed miserably, but I'll give it a concerted effort again

I finally finished up Nobunaga's Ambition. Don't press any button on this screen or the "ending" disappears in an instant! Going to take a break for a few days and maybe try a non-Koei game next.
-
Glad to see there are still a few games left for me to try
I'll keep chugging through the Koei bolus by starting on Nobunaga's Ambition, 50 fiefs, highest difficulty.

Leopard Headed just destroyed Evil Gao Qiu and presented his head to Emperor Hui Zhong...in other words, Bandit Kings of Ancient China is in the books.
Edit to add: so apparently this is not only the second time I've beat it, but the second time I've beat it in January...had I realized that, I might have made a more concerted effort to beat it on the same day
Congrats on that! I think it's the NES Koei game that has the hardest learning curve.

Don't you live in Taiwan? Is no bones even an option at anything except the most upscale places?
One of my favorite dishes in Hong Kong was roast duck or goose, chopped up by an expert with a massive cleaver that could take your hand off in one slice.

Sadly, I dont have a copy. But I think I will remedy that and try and find one on ebay. The only other pool game I own is breathru and I couldn't stand that when I bought it.
Break Time is tough, but much better than the nightmare that is Championship Pool....

It's a standard rule for sports games with season modes that you have to play the season mode. But it's also standard that sports games that will let you skip/simulate the regular season, it is only necessary to play the postseason games. Tecmo NBA allows you to skip those games.
Also, Wolverine is done.
It doesn't matter anyway. Either it's because I'm getting old or I don't really like basketball that much anyway, but this game just keeps pissing on my chest. There's too much going on onscreen, and the flickering isn't helping. So I'm going to give Space Shuttle Project a try instead.

I've done Tecmo NBA a couple of times for this challenge. It takes some getting used to, but it's not horrible. Also, it is allowed to skip the entirety of the regular season and still take credit here. Some players do like to play a couple of regular season games to try and figure out the game's mechanics, but that's up to you.
well... the winning conditions do stipulate you're supposed to complete a season. Are you talking about a short season or something else?

I don't get what you and @Daniel_Doyce have against it. when we did it for the contest a couple years back, it took a couple games but once I got the hang of it, I was regularly beating the computer by 30 points or more. I did find some teams better than others though. I couldn't for the life of me win consistently as the Bulls. I did, however, go 81-1 and undefeated in the playoffs with Golden State. Focus on defense and its a lot easier.
Hmm. Well, of course I picked the Bulls... So I'll give it another shot as the Warriors. It's only 26 games for a short season.
-
Well, I tried playing Tecmo NBA Basketball, and I just cannot comprehend sports games like that. I was down 16-0 and shut it off. Too many people running around and no idea how to control anything (yes I read the manual).
I'll screw around with Space Shuttle Project since it sounds pretty nerdy.

Yeah, the only one of those that I would find fun to replay would be Genghis Khan. I could see myself doing Romance 1 again because I like the setting, but I'm never gonna touch an NES Nobunaga game again. They're both pretty blah IMO.
I'll do Nobunaga's Ambition 1 then!

I'm currently working on Bandit Kings. If you want to go for it feel free, but figure you might want to narrow the choices down a bit.
Nah, I saw you mentioned that a while ago, so keep jammin on it. I may do one of the MMC1 games, since they are pretty clunky and take a long time.

Lunar Pool
Definitely a Dad game and has a lot of replay value.
