I don't think the consoles supporting such "direct LAN" need any network config, plug and play; Gamecube with Mario Kart was that console's poster child for that.

I tested one today. Didn't have any of MadLittlePixel's issues, so he likely got a faulty one indeed.

NES + N8 Pro + LCD HDTV -> all works with neslcdmod patched Duck Hunt. Shots are accurate, misses properly miss, no spurious shots.

Only took some tries to get the calibration right, with both delay and the three-step lighting to get right. With new homebrew designed for it, a calibration screen planned for this gun would make it a breeze.

Krikzz said he will produce SMS shells in the future, I think the bigger issue is that most stuff is just Alex Kidd hacks.

If you download bsnes-plus, you don't need deep homebrewery magic lore to check if it uses mode 7. Play until you're seeing that, Tools -> Debugger -> Break, then click around S-PPU -> Tilemap viewer.

Yes, it supports those mmc5 hacks too. Many of the other chinese roms were too large for current flashcarts, but I don't know of any full list.

I don't think you understood the 64drive's virtual controller pak feature. It's not like the Nintendont GC one on Wii, or on various emulators. You still need a physical pak to save anything, the feature just lets you copy the contents to the sd card and back. Incidentally Everdrive64 has the same feature, with maybe slightly worse UI.

N8 Pro NES should be out this month. There's various small improvements, sound, loading times and whatnot, but the only big feature is support for far bigger ROMs, like the Chinese FF7.

Krikzz prototyped a cart-port solution for outputting RGB from a NES. Certainly easier than the various mods for the same picture quality, if it comes to be.

I agree with SGB2 and GBA SP backlit recommendations, but adding a +1 for the Gameboy Light. That was a backlit Pocket released only in Japan, but you should be able to import them cheap on ebay. It's the best of the original GB series, fast screen and backlight.

To be honest, I don't expect the Hyperkin gun to be that much better. Most of that $25 is probably in the adapter and the patch.

I figure if you are already using the LCDMOD on an Everdrive, why bother with an adapter you're not going to use? The Hyperkin model is clearly for those who want to use their original SMB/DH cartridges.

The reports on the Tomee gun's compatibility vary, I do expect this to support current TVs better. Would be nice if they sold just the gun for homebrew and patched games yeah.
