I don't think Alien Cat 1 has a SNES port? This also doesn't concern any of the other ports of Alien Cat 2. The NES/Genesis/SMS/etc versions have no issue.
You should know that at least the SNES Alien Cat 2 demo was made using stolen code from Mega Cat. Valdir Salgueiro, after parting ways with us, took with him our proprietary SNES code and used it to work on this for PCSD games. It is highly unlikely they'd have rewritten it based on the other SNES toolchains available, and Valdir is listed on the KS page. Do not support the thief.
I think he may mean the official devkits and the like, the use of which would indeed be illegal. N64, DC and Saturn are places where some homebrew still uses such illegal code, older platforms don't really bother anymore, and even on those three it's getting rarer.
Even if a DSP-1 MCU version only cost some dollars, you also have to amortize the engineer's cost to create it. Over 100 copies? Gonna be more than 30$.
Is the new stage corrupted? The YT video's screenshot (that shows before you press play) looks all kinds of bad, like something scribbled over both VRAM and the attributes...
I agree there probably won't be much demand for an IP most people have never even heard about, and NFT makes no sense as an additional complication. Make something new.
