I would love to see a rerelease of Crystalis. Granted I know it was also released on the GBC but a modern update on this game would be fun.

I 2nd this. I'd like to see a modern-ish take on this one.

I'd still want the top down view and combat/movement to be relatively close to the original though. I wouldn't want it to turn into "God of War in the Crystalis universe", if that makes sense. No need for a chase camera and a revamped combat system.

OH, I have one.  Though it's probably a stretch to say it was an acclaimed game.  More like a mixed-reception game that got acclaims from some corners, and has a bit of a cult following to this day.

    The Legend of Dragoon

People who like this game are fucking crazy.  I said it!

Agreed! That game sucks and I am routinely amazed at the people who sing its praises. It is objectively terrible when compared to its contemporaries.

  3. I completely skipped the PS4 gen, but thanks to the PS5 being able to play PS4 discs, I've been playing through some of the big titles that I missed.

Ratchet & Clank -  a fun reboot/reimagining. I enjoyed my playthru of it, and if I didn't have other games I wanted to try, I'd probably check out the the "Challenging mode". (Basically New Game+ feature where you play thru it again with more/tougher enemies, but you keep your gear/upgrades)

Infamous: Second Son - Really fun game. Played thru both the Good and Evil story lines. (It's a pretty straight forward platinum trophy for anyone interested in that sorta thing)

Crash N'Sane Trilogy - Another remaster with some added features that the original games were lacking. It's one that looks great now, but still simple enough gameplay that my wife enjoys joining in.

Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled - They really did a good job maintaining the feel of the original while making everything look fantastic. I was worried going into it that the game play would feel different (which would be a huge let down because the original CTR is the best cart game ever made)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1&2 - They did a great job combining the games to make it seem like 1. Gets a little repetitive once you start playing through the game multiple times with the different skaters. I mean who really wants to play thru the thing 20 times?

Horizon Zero Dawn - Beautiful game. Kinda struggling getting used to the controls, but after some practice I'm sure it'll be fine.

God of War - Wow. Gorgeous, fun to explore, great world building storyline, tons of side quests, a lot of equipment customization to suit your play style. I'm about half way through this one and I love it.

And there are tons more that I'd like to get to from that gen. Red Dead, Spiderman, The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted 4, and many others.

So, judging strictly from the library I'd call it a solid platform. I can't speak to the performance of the system though, but the games look and run great on a PS5. lol

That said, I'll give it an 8/10

    Here are my picks:

Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS): The first half or so of this game is 100% what I did not want out of a Metroid game. All of the fun of navigating quickly through areas you’re already familiar with while blasting foes is utterly negated by the ridiculous rock/paper/scissors BS you must engage in with every single peon in order to eliminate them and avoid taking significant damage. This improves once you can (finally) plow through them with the Screw Attack, but prior to that, the flow of the game is completely busted. I’m also not big on certain boss encounters that amount to minutes of dodging attacks followed by a 5-second window to inflict damage. I’m not a fan of Mercury Steam in general, but this is easily the worst thing of theirs I’ve ever played through. Just a wretched experience that makes me pine for the Game Boy version.

If you haven't given AM2R a try, then I sincerely recommend that you do. Instead of ordering a C&D to the team that made it, Nintendo should have adopted this game as their own instead of moving forward with Samus Returns 3DS.

I fuckin' LOVE Trog. I always wanted my own arcade cabinet, like the one they advertise on the box that you could win. I had the world record speedrun on it for a little while, too. I'll have to revisit it to reclaim that sometime.

You ain't gotta lie to kick it, Gloves. It's ok that you never had the record. 😛

Trog! on the NES for me.  I played a lot of it as a kid.  I wouldn't say it is a bad game (Stockholm Syndrome kicking in), but I don't think it has many fans.

Trog Screenshots for NES - MobyGames Trog! (Game) - Giant Bomb

Bod Blog Gaming: Trog (NES) Trog NES Nintendo Game

I like this game, but it's a lot more fun with 2 players.

Also, there's a Trog arcade game that is basically the same gameplaywise, but with sweet claymation characters and better looking levels. Check it out sometime

Have you tried playing any physical PS4 games? Do those work well? Any upgrades on the visuals?

Yeah, they work just fine and they look great. I couldn't say whether they look better or worse than they did on PS4 without seeing them side by side though.

Load times are quick, and switching between games is faster than I expected. Even from a disc game to a digital game and back is quick.

  8. So far I've been enjoying mine.

Bought physical copies of the remastered Crash Trilogy and CTR. Playing thru those with my wife.

Used my PS+ subscription to download Ratchet & Clank and Infamous: Second Son. (beat both already)

I think next up on my want list are AC Valhalla and SM Miles Morales.

Oh, and I ordered a physical copy of the THPS 1/2 remaster. Looking forward to that

So in a way you were the primary target and bullseye for the entire Sony driven campaign back in that year and it worked.  They scooped Square, then used FF7 as a huge coup and ad blitz how Nintendo was out of date and for the kids (despite reality at the time) and that you needed to come over to Sony and CDs, to keep playing Final Fantasy as it was THE game to own. But like many, you got enamored for a stretch, but it was the other games that kept you coming back for more, which in the end makes far more sense than FF7 IS THE SAVIOR types.

I had a SNES and made the switch to Sony as well. For me it was similar, but instead of FF7, it was Legend of Dragoon in the RPG genre that enticed me, and the Twisted Metal and Mega Man X series that kept me on team Sony for that Generation. I also appreciated all of the fighters that the PS1 had. The Capcom Fighter's Edge set was awesome, and I liked the Tekken and Gundam Battle Assault games too.
