Cyberball finished. This game is actually easier to play on the advanced difficulty, since it makes you select a play type before the actual play. The clock runs down on both screens, so you can waste twice as much time.

Twin Eagle, one life clear. It's important to always use your bombs whenever the green tanks than shoot the circular missiles show up. Don't even think about it, just use them. I'm not sure why the score counter goes to the ten millions when I only ended up with around 635,000 points.

Also, heading into this year, the only game you've beaten for 10 straight years is Operation Wolf. The only game with a longer streak is me and Amagon.

Probably cuz it's a longer game than some of the other 5 minute ones. And a lot of the world 8 stages are not the most fun if you just warp. Looks like it's been 9/10 years for you. Seppatoni beat it in 2017.

Amagon is complete once again on January 1st. Honestly, my play was really bad. Guess I need to play more NES stuff, because I was quite rusty and died a bunch.

It's actually right. Let me explain: The points are based on the last 5 years, so the 2017 data was replaced with the 2022 data. And Nightshade was beaten 29 spots higher in 2017 vs 2022, so it ended up losing a bit of ground - falling from 589th to 598th overall. The final 9 point game is #595, so it was barely was a 9 last year, and now just barely fell into the 10s this year.

It's once again time for VGS to beat every single NES game in a single year! Our goal is to collectively beat every licensed US game on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Each game is worth a certain number of points (1-10), based on how long it's taken them to complete over the past five years. Generally, the harder a game is, the more points it's worth, although rarity, length, and quality play a role as well. For 2023, a list of 100 bonus games will be included in addition to the normal 677 licensed games. It's sort of a "best of the rest" combination of unlicensed/PAL/Famicom, as well as some tough challenge runs for popular games. See the next post for details. Each bonus game will be worth 4.5 points for completion. Rules Post the games you've beaten in this thread. No cheat codes or level selects, obviously. No turbo controllers either - just play the game legit. We're using the honor system here, so no pics or anything required (although they are fun & encouraged). Emulators are ok too (no save states/frame skip/cheats). Using continues or passwords is fine as well, as long as the entire game was beaten in this calendar year. However, you may not use any codes unless they were given to you by the game itself or the manual. So no continuing in Arkanoid or Ikari Warriors, for example. If a game has no ending and just repeats the same stages, then we'll generally consider it beaten once you get to the point where it repeats and also beat the high score if there is one. The pastebin below is a list of what constitutes beating many of the less obvious games , so check that out or ask here if you're unsure. It's not necessary to get every ending or play on the highest difficulty (with a couple of exceptions where you don't play the full game otherwise). Looks like we'll end the year with 564 licensed games finished, which is not great, but at least we bested the worst ever total (562, in 2013). As I mentioned last year, I can't help but think that adding the bonus games does end up hurting our overall efforts, but oh well. I'll probably make another bonus games list for next year later tonight (maybe some of the same games, if I go by quality). Personally, I didn't play as much NES this year. The only new game I finished was Legendary Wings (plus a few more if you count stuff without credits - that does count for these threads, but not for my personal list). Oh, I beat the Famicom RPG Juvei Quest as well. I spent a lot of time getting into some of the PS1 games that I'd been meaning to check out for years. I've been posting over in that thread on occasion. And like so many other gamers, Elden Ring dominated my year. I'm not sure if there's too many NES games on my list to play that I haven't already. It's mostly Famicom stuff at this point. Maybe a few of the Konami western exclusives like Lone Ranger and Rollergames. Oh yeah, Wizardry as well - I keep meaning to get into that one.

My top five: 311 Elden Ring 104 Hades 53 Crypt of the Necrodancer 43 AI: Somnium Files 2 35 Shining Resonance Refrain I think this is bugged, because I know I played at least 35 hours of Project Diva: Future Tone DX. It should be probably be third in this list. It showed up in previous years (although without any artwork last year), but I think being a disc only Japanese release messes it up somehow.

I remember Vandal Hearts being an easy, basic game (albeit fun). It probably only got as much as attention as it did due to being one of the earlier rpgs on the system, so I can understand why the sequel was mostly ignored.

After giving up on Valkyrie Profile, I next tried out Shadow Madness. That game...is a mess. Not gonna touch that one again. I did start and beat something else this week, however: Galerians is defeated. Okay action (psychic powers instead of guns!) mixed with god-awful voice acting. I felt like it started off strong, but couldn't take it to the next level. Some cool moments, but nothing you need to play. I was surprised to learn that #1 - this game has a PS2 sequel, #2 - it came out in America, and #3 - it's not crazy expensive. Although most people seem to like it less than the first. I've now beaten four of the most prominent "bad" survival horror games on the PSX: Countdown Vampires, Galerians, Martian Gothic, Overblood. Anything else I should check out? Out of those four, the worst was probably Countdown Vampires. The opening cutscene was so great, but everything after that just let me down. Ok action, but generic. Next is Overblood, which had a lot of great cutscenes, but not much in the way of fun gameplay. Martian Gothic had lots of puzzles with some interesting lore, but felt very unpolished. It's a close contest for the top spot between that one and Galerians.
