  2. I played this game at release (and still have my original copy) and really loved it... at first.  It was a mind-blowing experience, but it staled quickly and I never quite finished it.

At the end of the story line you need to get a job to earn money for a plane ticket, iirc.  So you start moving boxes and at that point I thought "why am I playing a game about having a job??"  I do have fond memories of the majority of the game and it can't be overstated how amazing the interactive, open world concept was at the time.  It was a first step (one of many) for the gaming industry as a whole, but I don't have much desire to go back and replay or finish it.  7/10 seems right to me.

  3. I suspect it will do great at the box office.  I've got some nephews and nieces that will go apeshit for it.  Mario is incredibly popular, and did I read (here or somewhere?) that Mario is more recognizable by kids than Mickey Mouse these days?  I can't source that, but it sure seems true.

  4. OK, you don’t have a TurboDuo - do you have a TurboGrafx CD?  What will you play Madden CD football on?  Whatever device you are using, test the pink CD in that.

The pink CD did not come with the game originally.  Again, contact the seller that you bought it from and ask him.  It’s probably a backup copy made by the previous owner.

  5. Damn I just love Turbo stuff.  So pretty.  Shame that some of them are missing the cases (though some like Bonk 3 never had them) but still an amazing find.  Congrats!!  You will indeed have a ton of fun with that lot of games.  Like others said, just get your TurboExpress serviced but I would also recommend just getting a TurboGrafx console so you don't have to play them on that tiny screen all the time!

    Enjoy!

  6. I've only spent a few minutes with my friend's NES Classic, and here is what I noticed in less than 5 minutes with the turd (I'm sorry, gaming novelty):

At the flag in Super Mario Bros, if you wait for the time to end in 0 to start running (so that you hit the flag when time ends in 6), the lag will cause you to miss the fireworks.  Like many of you, I've been playing this game for over 35 years so it's easy to notice.

  7. I remember playing the original Street Fighter (not II, the original with the big spongy buttons) in our mall's arcade and though it was fun, it was hard.  It wasn't easy to throw a hadouken, but that was by design.  It's hard in real life to summon a ball of energy and hurl it forward - try it!

SF1 laid the groundwork, but SFII was a revelation.  It made combat responsive and special moves easy.  Well, easier.  It still took practice to learn but the game was just so fun, it made you want to learn how every character played.

I still have so much nostalgia for SFII.  'Member putting your quarter on the cabinet, to hold your spot for next game?  'Member when the SNES port came out and how impeccable it was?  For better or worse, SFII was the fighting game myself and all my friends took to and we played the shit out of it.

  8. Similar to what @Reed Rothchild wrote, I also haven't been "serious" about a game since my raiding days in WoW.  It was fun, but it was also a lot of work (and time) so these days it's all about casual solo gaming for me.

Looking back though to those early days of 40-player raids...  damn those were some incredible gaming experiences.  Honestly, when is the last time you did anything in sync with a large group of people since high school marching band?
