Puzznic is a laborious time sync so it's understandable if he didn't feel like playing. I put it off until the last day because I remembered how it was in the 2017 contest.

This is pretty much what happened to me.  I tried a couple of times Friday night and couldn't even get out of Stage 2, wasn't having any fun at all.  It's a weird feeling to not want to play a game I like.

  2. I'm pretty sure that the last time we played this I submitted a score of 100, funny that now that is overdoing it!

I think I'm gonna do one attempt sometime this week and submit whatever I get.  Will be slightly less practice then the last couple of these!

Oh, bummer. Are you planning to do anything else for the thread this year?

Maybe?  If the next games on my list overlap with what's left here, then definitely I will.  We are running out of games though so that's looking less likely all the time.

I've been playing Little Ninja Brothers for the last couple of weeks.  (Already been completed here of course.)  But I think Kung-Fu Heroes is still on the board and it's possible I can take that one to help out.

I wonder how many people who play Bases Loaded or similar sports games ever go beyond playing one game against the CPU or doing some quick multiplayer with a friend. Actually beating the game sounds like quite a slog unless you're really into baseball.

I'm not sure these games are often played to completion these days, but definitely more back in the day.  Imagine a kid bored in the early 90's who likes baseball and I can see a full season or two pretty easily.

  4. I just finished Bases Loaded II a few months ago.  You have to win 75 games, then you go to the playoffs and you have to win 4 more games to beat it.  So 79 games total.

I can't speak for Bases Loaded 4, but I thought both the first two games were pretty easy, just long.  For the first game I found a pitching exploit for perfect games every time, so it is very easy to win but it is unspeakably long and slow to get through the 80 wins.  I could not find an exploit like that for BL2 but found it to have a much quicker pace.  Something like 40 hours to complete BL1 and 25-30 hours for BL2.

@Tablew/chairs @NESfiend I really like that sports analogy, that is a good way to look at a lot of these games. It's not great in this case though I don't think because once you beat a team you don't replay them again (except in a finals kind of situation). Repeating the 4 lakes 3 times each when nothing about them changes makes this feel different to me.

Is it possible to just C and B rank your way through and just finish the last lake in 1st? So for example I could just select end day 9 times in a row and then just win the last three lakes to go from 200th to 1st all of the sudden? That seems like the quickest/easiest method to get a first on the final day if that does in fact work.

Thanks for throwing ideas around with me btw. Very much appreciated

I get email alerts for this thread, so I was reading and following along (even before I was tagged) but I'm just now getting a chance to reply.  😄

I did do a write-up on this one with some tips and my path to winning:  http://takeontheneslibrary.com/finished/83-the-black-bass/

I believe you can do the strategy you outlined: Skip the first 9 days and win the final three.  You don't even need to win Class C or B, just get 5th or better in that tournament to advance.  (That would be 101st-105th in Class C and 51st-55th in Class B, if I am remembering the placings right.)  The only bad thing about that is that the later days in the season have shorter tournament hours and then it more challenging to get the amount of good size bass you need to win.  Also there are two Class A lakes, so it's up to you if you care about playing both of them in the game.

This game really has two "endings."  The 1st place tournament win, and the end message at the end of the season.  I just made a video of the final lake, so for the sake of optics only I wanted to do both at the same time.  If it were up to me, I would say it's fine to get 1st place and finish the season separately to say it's beaten.

  6. I was thumbing through the requirements and it looks like I inadvertently beat Short Order/Eggsplode.  😄 The Power Pad is helping as a distraction for my daughter and me during all the shelter-in-place stuff, so it's possible I'll knock out more of the Power Pad stuff as we go.

I'm at 35/80 cases completed in Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?  It's gonna take a little more than a week to complete that at my current rate.

I could be misremembering - it could be that I am mixing it up with some other game - although for the life of me I can't imagine what it would be.

I think you've got it right.  I definitely remember some tight jumps when you have to land on the edge of a block that is trying to slide you backward, then jump right away to keep from falling off.  The timing is pretty tight in some cases but I was able to manage.

  8. Equinox is great!  I beat it a few years ago for the first time, no turbo.  I don't really remember that part with the columns but I know conveyor blocks are all over the place in that game, usually placed to catch you by surprise.

I take pride in beating games without enhancements like turbo, even it it makes things painful with heavy mashing or what have you.  Ghostbusters on NES is sure to put me to the test though when the time comes.  I seem to remember beating that game as a kid without any turbo.  I have to imagine I would fare better today.
