One I have to get back to is Power Soukoban - it is an enhancement on the usual push boxes around in the warehouse (which I actually enjoy - my favorite type of puzzle game) mode of Sokoban games in that it has some RPGish elements and onscreen enemies and allies to interact with. It also has pretty nice screens compared to the usual style I have a copy with box and manual that I bought cheap awhile ago - I was surprised by looking on ebay just now how expensive they have gotten. (My favorite English title is the Genesis version named "Shove It!" - take that you dog faced pony soldier!)
Power Soukoban is a really fun game, excellent choice. There is also the more "vanilla" Super Sokoban.
My favorite Super Famicom puzzler is Little Magic. It's a single screen puzzle game where you blow bubbles around. It's not really like Adventures of Lolo but it has that same vibe.
Umihara Kawase is really fun, cute, and tough as nails.

I'm gonna give QBillion a shot. Now that the contest is over I feel like starting up something on GB.

I'll chime in with my own thanks to Red. It was a fun contest and nice to compete again. This filled my need to do a contest for awhile. Happy to be on break now!

You should play them and write about it!
There is precedent for this ... I played through and reviewed Battle Kid a few years back. Eventually there will be more and I have plenty of candidates on hand.

I am very guilty of buying homebrews and not playing them. Most of them I have played at least a little bit, some I have beaten to completion, and some I haven't even tried yet. It's shameful, I agree.

Two Super Game Boy 2's would be a neat and wholly unnecessary setup.

I beat The Ren & Stimpy Show: Buckaroo$!

I have a disk system and a few games. Eggerland, Otocky, Nazo No Murasamejou, Meikyuu Jiin Dababa, maybe one or two others. I've never gotten my disk system to work fully though. I replaced the belt, got it to run once or twice so I know it works. I haven't messed around with it in a year or two now, but I probably should figure it out.

I am getting this cart out tomorrow for a try, excited to give it a go!

Shoutout to this thread for about giving me a heart attack this morning. Happy both sites are still alive!

I wrote about it when I beat it awhile back. Fun game with some minor issues. I enjoyed making my own "map" quite a lot.

Man, that's so true. Not only that, in that BIG lot I had bought with almost 200 games in it and almost every single one in near-perfect shape, there was a Prehistorik Man right on top! I was ecstatic... only to see it was an EUR variant. UUuuuuuggggghhhhh!
I bought a Sneaky Snakes cart for the contest, but I wasn't paying attention and bought the UKV version. I'm not even a serious GB collector, but it bugs the heck out of me so I'm only the lookout for a US version to replace it.

I think one or both of you guys messaged me trying to shake my copy loose. I still have it!
The sad thing is I've only played it once not long after I bought it. I've got a backlog of homebrew games building up fast, some that I haven't even played at all. I definitely need to rectify that soon.

And there it is. Well done.

Damn, I was hoping that I might be able to coast out. I haven't played too many runs and last one I improved dramatically, so let's see how close I can get.
As much as I’d like to win a week of this contest, I’m expecting you to beat me.

The Magic of Scheherazade is done. Pretty fun game, took longer than I expected.

A Famicom contest would get me to play again. Just sayin'.
We were going through some old games the other day and my daughter has become kind of obsessed with Mappy. Just a strange coincidence it has been mentioned here. Anyway I'm getting pretty decent at it now!

Playing through Untitled Goose Game with my 4-year-old daughter made the entire experience many times better. It would not normally be my kind of game but I really enjoyed it.
The indie space reminds me a lot of gaming in the '80s and '90s where developers are going in more imaginative directions, trying out things and seeing what sticks. With that in mind, there are bound to be a lot of "critical darlings" that just don't resonate with everyone and that's fine. My example is Hollow Knight. It gets universally praised and mentioned often as the best Metroidvania game in years and all that, and I thought it was just okay. I sunk a lot of time into it too almost out of duty and it just never hit that gear for me. And that's okay! Figuring out, and for folks our age, refining your own tastes is part of maturing.

BTW if anyone's curious, the final boss as regenerating health (found with an emulator as the health is not shown on screen), so it's much better to be aggressive otherwise the boss will just heal while you avoid his attacks.
Oh, but that takes out half the fun. It gives you some risk-reward challenge. That said, the human "possible" TAS I made scores 58,225. So, even I didn't go for all the crazy possible low score strats. I'll upload the video tonight. It's fun to watch.
That’s consistent with the enemies and final boss in Snake Rattle N Roll on NES. Makes things pretty tough when you gotta stay on him real close but not too close!
I say don’t bother with score because it’s progression first. I’ve seen lots of people in the NES contests obsess over low score and then have problems beating the game in the first place. Low score after that is fun I agree, but might have been tedious for this game. I didn’t beat it anyway so I’ll never know!

This is the next game for my blog. At least I know better on what to prepare for!
