I played around with an emulator to get practice and find all the extra lives. The first run after resulted in my first completion without continues. I think I finished with 4 lives left after a really messy final boss. Still a lot of room for improvement on the score.

Is anyone else playing? It's getting lonely in here.

Yep, I’m here! I’ll post my score later but I got to Level 13 and I think I got to the final boss playing out my continues. This game is really fun, I really should finish it off, but I’m not that excited at the prospect of an hour-plus attempt right now so my score will stand. Don’t forget to post your completion in the Game Boy thread too!

Is EA on par with Ikari Warriors and Qbert when not using the cheese strats?  I never came close to beating it. But stage 4 must be especially bad considering TMR's reaction.

I wouldn't say Elevator Action is in that league, if only because it's so short. Stage 4 is really brutal, in terms of overwhelming/unfair AI behavior, but it's been completed before. I made it through Stage 3 on multiple occasions before I learned about the aggression trick; not sure how far I made it into Stage 4.

Though I don't have first-hand experience, I have to agree with bronzeshield.  Ikari Warriors and Q*bert are lengthy games, whereas I bet with Elevator Action you benefit from playing through it faster.

TheMexicanRunner credits arnpoly with passing him this information and thereby saving NESMania:

Search on "Elevator Action" and you'll see his note in the rightmost column. 🙂

It's on his site too: http://themexicanrunner.com/games/Elevator Action

Evidently it was the last review he wrote in the project.

I remember he had been playing for 8-10 hours and was really struggling before he asked for help, so I simply took the advice I picked up from this thread and passed it on.  I didn't realize I saved the whole project though, that's pretty neat.  😄

  4. I figure that all teams are sign-stealing to some extent.  I know the Astros situation more has to do that they were using technology to steal signs, including using cameras intended for replay, from what I read.  I have to imagine other teams are doing this too and that the shoe is going to drop elsewhere eventually.

  5. It's cool they are doing this and that you can get most of the popular Zapper games to work.  It's just not for me though, I want full compatibility with all the weird one-off stuff the Zapper does.  If I'm trying to beat all NES games, then it makes sense to me to use the Zapper every single time it is an option and not just on stuff that happens to be patched with these other solutions.

  6. We've followed each other on Twitter for awhile now and I just found out he was doing this.  He's pretty knowledgeable about random NES games which I why I followed in the first place.  I am confident he is the real deal, though I have not done any "vetting" of videos or anything like that.  I am shooting for the same goal so I'm trying my best to keep up with others doing the same thing.

Only took 20 mins for "To the Earth"????

Specific to this game, I know he figured out the Game Genie code to skip straight to the last level to practice it.  A full playthrough lasts around 20 minutes, maybe that is what he means.  I spent about 20 hours (I think) playing this game over and over from the start before I beat it.

I know him from seeing his playthroughs on Youtube. He likes to use pause strats even for games that don't really need it.

I think using pause strats is fine and a legit strategy.  But it's not my style and I won't be doing it for any games I play.  Just personal taste.

  7. I'm surprised by this, though maybe I shouldn't be.  I bought from JJGames once or twice and sold him several NES lots I've put up for auction, nothing but good things from him as far as I'm concerned.  I'm most disappointed personally that he won't be buying game lots from me anymore.

How do you get the good ending in bubble bobble? Does it have to be 2 player? Might try that later tonight after work

It's been a long time since I've done this so I'm far from certain here.  I think in Level 99 you need to grab a crystal ball and take it to a door before they disappear.  It is supposed to be done with two players but I have done it solo before.  That puts you on the path toward the real end boss.  I think you have to play two loops of the game to beat it, but I am not sure if that is necessary for completion in this thread.

I got to the second world and moved on to another game.  It's not because I got bored with it. I  just got distracted and once I came back to my Switch, I was ready for Final Fantasy X. Oops.

That's where I am at the moment.  I definitely know the feeling of switching games and not getting back to it.  But on this one I think I'm hooked so I'm gonna stick with it for awhile.

I didn't dislike the game, but it got boring and repetitive quickly. I finished it, but probably would have been more satisfied if I just stopped after the third course or so. It seems like a lot of people genuinely love it, so maybe you guys will get more out of it than I did.

I could see the game getting repetitive, but I dunno, I think it fits the bill for me right now.  There's enough slightly weird stuff going on to keep me going.

I like the occasional golf game, and I like the occasional RPG.  Having the two of them together like this is hitting that sweet spot, and it's something I don't think I've seen before.  (I admit I haven't played any of the Camelot Mario Golf games that have RPG elements, maybe I should.)

  10. One of the biggest scores of my life arrived marked as damaged.  Found an eBay NES lot several years ago that had a bunch of games including Flintstones Dino Peak and Kid Klown.  First the payment didn't go through right away, which I figured for sure meant that I got backdoored, but I got lucky and got the games shipped to me.  When I got the box I could tell that it was too small to actually hold the games properly.  The seller folded the flaps down as far as they would go and put tape down, but neglected to cover up the huge hole made in the center that the box flaps did not cover.  The opening was just large enough for a cart to have slipped through it, but somehow I managed to get everything in the lot safely.  A huge scare from a lazy seller with a happy ending.
