To be honest, we can't pretend to have the slightest clue how many protesters have died in Hong Kong, considering how many of them have simply disappeared.  The story of the people of Hong Kong seems to be generally more relatable to western audiences, considering that it was a pretty stable region in comparison with Chile, Ecuador, Haiti, etc.

I think the explanation is simpler.. It fits the narrative of "China bad", whereas Chile protests is reaction to the austerity economics of neoliberalism.

@Scrobins you are added to the leaderboard.

His submission brings up a good talking point.  How many scores should displayed per game category?  1, 3, 5?  Also can a user only hold one score per game category or hold multiple?

My opinion is 5 top scores per category and a user can hold multiple:

    i.e.

    Game X (Top Score)

    1. Scrobins

    2. Scrobins

    3. Gloves

    4. Rain Warrior

    5. Gloves

However I want this to be more of a discussion then what I think.

For the Atari leaderboard, I did a top 3 and, 1 score per user/game

  3. At lot of great games this past decade. Hard to just pick one. A lot of the big ones are sequels to IPs that were started in previous decades. I would say one of the most impactful and interesting NEW IPs of the past decade was Five Nights at Freddy's. It completely galvanized the whole videogame streamer movement.

I would have rather seen the HK protestors win, to be honest.

All the more reason the HK protesters were by far the most qualified.

Hong Kong has gotten a disproportionate amount of media coverage considering there are equally massive protests going on in Chile, Ecuador, Haiti etc..

19 people have been killed in the Chile protests so far, vs 2 in Hong Kong (one was a guy who fell off a bridge)

  5. I cleared out all the old patch graphics, and will be doing it in a separate gallery now, just below the scoreboard. To encourage participation in the monthly challenges, only games featured in the spotlight challenges will you be able to earn badges. High scores for any game can still be posted at any time

Now THAT is a name I haven't heard in a long time. I remember trying to one-up my friends, seeing who could dive the deepest into the complexity of ZZT. There was a game being passed around called Code Red (I think?) which actually had a password feature, in the form of a huge room with complex pushers and whatever else to process the password. Very impressive. I got in the habit of not using stock objects to build walls, because of that one friend who would spam the ZAP code to break every level. So I exclusively used coded objects that would immediately end the game when zapped. Good times.

I just played through the Town of ZZT in a single sitting last night.

I remember finding it very difficult when I was younger, but  I guess my gaming abilities have improved. Some of the dexterity/twitch parts were still a bit of a challenge, but the puzzles I solved pretty fast.

@CasualCart Big fan of the little illustrations you included with each game, nice work

Really great stuff! I appreciate you going the extra mile.

I was super into quirky stylus driven DS games back when that system was out (Pac Pix, Trauma Center, Elite beat Agents, Kirby Canvas Curse, etc) , but I never tried Skate it. Makes me interested to check it out

  8. Frogger 2 is pretty confusing unless you look in the manual to see what is safe to step and what is dangerous.

Each level consists of 3 screens:

    underwater

    Safe: Sea Turtle

    Danger: everything else

    get bubbles for points

goal: fill the berths in the 3 logs

advance to next surface by landing on a non-hole section of log

    Surface

everything is safe except the boat, the hippos when standing, or the mama duck if she catches you riding on her babies

turtles and whales dive intermittently and lilly pads disappear when you step off them.

goal: fill the life preserver berth dragging behind the boat

jump in water to get to previous screen, or jump on mama duck to advance to the air

    Air

jump and get progressively higher with each hop

    get butterflies for points

    Safe: Zepplins, birds

Danger: Dragons, Airplanes, bats, black edges

Goal: Get into the cloud berth

fall through hole in bouncy cloud to return to the surface.

  9. December Challenge: Sequels

There weren't a ton of part 2's for the Atari library, and the ones that were made tend to be overshadowed by the more well known original.

You have until midnight (VGS time) Decemeber 31, to post your scores to earn badges.

    spacer.png

Pitfall 2: challenge score 99k  (199k perfect score)

River Raid 2: Challenge score 60k (Game 1/a/b)

    Frogger 2: Challenge score 5k

Qberts Qubes: Challenge score 60k (GAME 1/A/A)

  10. Each challenge is intended to be a month challenge. Because the Ninatari Challenge didn't start on the Nov.1  to get a full month, I'm extending the deadline to Decemeber 7. Post ANY score for all 7 games to earn your participation point. The challenge scores will still be applicable throughout the year to earn a challenge badge with your high score. New challenge for December coming tomorrow.
