  1. Mine would be Warsong. Good story. Not an insane amount of level grinding. Battle scenarios are fairly quick. Some moderate challenges/character choices along the way to keep it interesting. I love the planning and keeping your depleted troops out of harms way to heal up next to your leader. Terrain bonus's on the map. Troop bonus's from your leaders. Excellent game that I enjoy playing repeatedly!
  2. I was always a Risk and Axis and Allies fan growing up in the 80's as a teenager. I guess my first game would be considered a sub genre of the Strategy/Rpg tree in being it's more of a Strategy/Simulation game. That would be Genghis Khan for the Nes. I originally saw it in 87 on my friends IBM 286. Later on played it on the Nes and fell in love with it and other Koei simulation games on the Nes like Nobunaga's Ambition and Bandit Kings of ancient china. These games have strategy elements(army battles on usually a hex based map), Simulation elements(resource management and country building) with some RPG elements(raising your character stats through "Training") Later on I discovered RTS games like Herzog Zwei and Dune The Battle for Arrakis on the Genesis in the early/mid 90's.The Genesis became my favorite system. First true SRPG would have been Shining Force. Around 98 with my first computer the internet opened my eyes to a whole new world of video games and I was hooked. Trying to find any and every Strategy/Rpg, Strategy game I could get my hands on.Several years later I was fortunate to have become friends with the founder of this topic and we've discussed our love of these games ever since
  3. My favorite game of all time would be Genghis Khan on the Nes. Flashback to the late 80's and I loved playing strategy board games like Fortress America,Conquest of the Empire and Samurai Swords. I was only really into arcade games at the time but saw this game first on my friend's father's PC. I believe it was an IBM 286? I was amazed at a historical(I'm a bit of a History buff) game that was a strategy game and turn based. Never really got to play it because it was "Dad's game/PC" but I never forgot it. A few years later I was playing Tecmo Bowl or Mario Bros on my friend's Nes. His older brother had these "boring strategy games" that only he played. I looked at them and saw it......Genghis Khan had been released on the Nes! I knew I had to have a copy of this game. I didn't own a Nes at the time but I knew I could just use my step sister's system at night in the living room. That started my love of other Koei games. I can honestly say I've played Genghis Khan on the Nes at least once a year since I got it. I've beaten it so many times I look for different challenges to try and keep it interesting. I've been meaning to start a 4p game and play everyone and see what character would eventually win.
  4. My friend made a print and play version set in Westeros that was a lot of fun https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1726222/secret-spider-game-thrones-variant-secret-hitler
  5. Everything has to be CIB for me. I'm more picky about condition of the cardboard box on a Nes/Snes/N64 game than I am the label. All CD based stuff I need CIB as well. I'd think that's a no brainer for most people too. As far as inserts go like reg cards or adverts I'm not picky on. But if the game has a Map or poster I have to have it as well. I was fortunate a few years ago on NA to pick up the Metal Storm poster for $50 from a user there. I even went out and bought CIB Mega Drive versions of Shining Force 1 and 2 just to get the maps to put with my Genesis copies. I later sold off the map less Mega Drive copies
  6. I'm a huge board game fan. I have a small collection myself. My one friend has a huge one and is always buying Kickstarter exclusives. I have a good group of 11 guys and we play once/twice a week depending on everyone's schedules. I've become the organizer/host and my friend with the huge collection the game bringer/teacher of the rules. Love the social aspect of getting together with friends face to face over drinks having fun playing board games. Current favs are Champions of Midguard, Tyrants of the Underdark, Marco Polo 2 and Star Wars Outer Rim. One member of my group owns/runs Elzra games(Makers of the Catacombs line) and sometimes I help in play testing and game design. It's very interesting hearing from him about the different production issues and various board game pitches he gets sent.
