I would say that it halves and 1 point would be the lowest anyone could get.....

I think a points decrease for some friendly competition is always a good thing.  so I'm onboard with diminishing returns on the points as well.  probably get more participation if that is possible.

Half Marathon was completed on Oct 1, 2023 in 3:27:12, not the fastest time ever, but hey I finished it.

 

2024 is going to see my work on a 20 mile hike called the Mammoth March in May, and then in October or December I plan on completing a full marathon...

I found biking to be enjoyable, running isn't for me.  also, congrats on the weight loss, I lost 75-80 lbs between Feb and now of 2023.

i meant personal ranking   i volunteered to play the entire library and rank it like @Reed Rothchild and the snes library.  I will be playing n64 regardless of what happens with the thread.

i can't, and most likely won't spend my time playing japanese games, i would be working on the NA library for the ranking.  That being said, idk about how many folks could/would do the translations or non translations.  Kinda hard to gauge without trying it though......

I like that we made a reservation system for N64, but I don’t know if that would work in all threads. It meant people could reserve games they’ve wanted to play and those who normally play them could try other games.

What about a 2 year time frame with all the regions in the list?  Is that something everyone could get behind?  Still gives a "limit" on time and maybe also, for points, half for the second clear of the same game?

**edit**  I know @Gloves has thought about doing an everdrive for top member, maybe something like that could be implemented into this?  for the top contributor?  IDK, just a thought.

Honestly, I feel like most other systems should have a yearly thread anyway.  Removing the time limit removes part of the incentive to prioritize playing that system, and without that reset putting popular games back up, people look at the list and don't really see games they want to play, so they just don't.

Also, when I made the first thread all those years ago (before NA was even a thing), the goal was to get more people playing unfamiliar games, because I felt most gamers rarely strayed out of their comfort zone to try something new.  I feel a lot of people lose sight of that though...that the goal was never to actually succeed, it was to discover new games and enjoy the journey.

ya, I vaguely remember seeing no reset next year.  @Splain can confirm.

Jeevan you are a true hero in my book, having played a bit of StarCraft on N64 I know how frustrating that game can be and the length is insane!

I won’t be playing much N64 next year (if any) but I vote that we just change the thread to beat the library and we can also include the Japanese games. 

I do like the idea of a VGS ranking thread as an alternative though. That could be fun and different. We have a lot of die hard N64 fans on the site so the list would actually mean something and could draw people to the site. I say we go for this option.

definitely not annually, if anything 2 years to complete the set, I think we got super lucky, with a very special shout out to the real driver of whipping us into completion....

@ikk you deserve that gold and thanks for prodding us to do the final push!

Congrats to everyone who helped and participated this year!  Look forward to my rankings in the future, now that I don't have to try and necessarily beat them all in a year, I can start picking off what I want, etc.  I will keep any of you n64 nerds updated once things start rolling out etc.  didn't get as far as I wanted in the library this year, but honestly I think starcraft beating me down was part of the problem.  

Whatever @Splain has in store for this thread, hopefully it can help bring some love to the, imo, greatest couch co op system of the 90s/2ks.  granted goldeneye sure helps out with that title .  So with that, give me my dang charm @Gloves  .

I'm likely not going to reset the thread to 0 for 2024. As others have said, this has been an awesome year, and a lot of us put a lot of effort into a big push for 2023, so it's a good time to retire the thread/effort. Or at least take a break.

If anyone's interested, we can do something else N64-related, like perhaps a community N64 ranking project?

this would actually potentially help me out with how i do mine to an extent to see what others think of the games, i kinda like it.  That being said, beat the library over the course of x amount of years like the gameboy?  If you beat the game do a review, except me who will be doing them in private as soon as i get my butt in gear
