  1. ^Thats the thing, at the naked eye glance it doesn’t seem too bad but under the microscope the points seem broken on an atomic level. Knowing all this we can totally see why competitive Quarth would favour speedruns
  2. @0xDEAFC0DE yah so it’s sequential eh, I thought maybe it was a chance every time, which arguably might be better than a static sequence anyways. I hate to call anything broken these days but maybe it is broken as a high score game, but not necessarily as a progression game
  3. Hmm B's every 256 eh somehow this makes sense, when I was in my earlier runs I was focusing, arguably over-focusing, on just building up and clearing quantity, I seemed to get more pink blocks then? I was probably also getting less x3's so less S and E's.... but meh. This just seems like some under-sophisticated item/score system where the average naked-eye results fall around getting "enough" but when considering the huge score difference for B in conjunction with all the placements of possible rectangles it gets quickly and harshly skewed. Hard to break? Perhaps. The mechanics are still really good in spite of it all... but I won't necessarily be building a Quarth collectibles shrine either.
  4. Good job on this one everyone, other than Deafcode's gargantuan score the rest of the ranks ended up fairly competitive... but then again the point scoring options in the game are slim. Pretty damn stressful game actually. As much as I'd love to say I coulda been a (silver) contender I really did put the time in so IDK. But I do know that the upcoming break week is HIGHLY APPRECIATED BY THIS GUY
  5. Heh heh I haven't got to use the angry one yet nah I'm just whinin cause I lost a point I'm happy for you @Jeevan but on a relative scale it's actually pretty minor anyways. I somehow pulled something together on my lone run today, better than expected really
  6. Yeah dude, it's a big time ask. I'm gonna do the same thing, play a few more times, but unless I magically break some barrier I'm just gonna shoot as high as I can and hope I can maybe hold onto the bottom of the ranks.
  7. Cool cool well it should give me a small boost now that I know to go big flurry after busting a pink C but ultimately climbing the point ladder feels like a looong trek. I did really want to get good at this.
  8. Oh yeah good point I knew it went that way for the beloved S and E blocks so then for the C the multiplier starts AFTER the activation (activation = pink is destroyed)? Then for 25 seconds its x2. Does that also mean that the pink clear isnt even multiplied at all?
  9. This is better. I must have conflated the C powerup in my gameplay, I thought it was only lasting until the pink was destroyed (unless that also happens if it's under 25 seconds? isn't there always a pink simultaneous with a C?) I had the B correct, so the key to B's then is getting a big pink area, and the consolation prize is that you can do okay just making a big lone pink block if thats what it comes to.
  10. Indeed, it has excellent base mechanics, and would be a prime remake candidate. I had recognized the name of this and remembered I randomly bought it on Game Boy a few years back. It seems every other entry in the series is non-North American. I happened to read that you can store powerups in the GB entry. In some games a long playing time can mitigate tilted RNG, but this almost goes too far the other way and asks you to invest too much time to get the good stuff. You're busy as hell for the rest of it clearing things off or trying to make meager gains on normal arrangements. On top of that, if I'm interpreting what DeafCode was talking about before correctly the C powerup only multiplies pink blocks by 2? So even on a 6x that only makes them worth 12 apiece compared to the B which makes them all 300 flat, and multipliable? That's a gigantic slant. But, if that's the game then that's the thing to go for. Timewise... I sorta wanna do other things tonight though lol
  11. I updated my score to 68Kish. I thought I’d be doing better by now. I got a few okay combos, but it’s just all too easy to go for a long time without moving the needle, basically scoring nothing for the stretch except tiny points. I like the game but it’s a grueling commitment once you’ve nailed the basics. I just want like 6th place...
  12. I screwed around too much last night and didn’t even get started on Quarth Already Tuesday
  13. BATTLETOADS RULES-AT-A-GLANCE: When you start the game, intentionally lose all your lives until you have 0 hearts, then begin. Your run ends if you lose the complete first square of your energy bar; pause the game and take your picture. You can lose part of the square and keep going. If an alien steals your square, you can keep going as long as you reclaim it. Instantly after you break 400,000 points, pause the game and take your picture (or instantly after you reach 4 hearts, which is normally simultaneous, but the latter happens earlier if you picked up extra 1UPs by accident). When submitting, add the sum of your level bonuses to your on-screen score.
  14. I figured, it’s moot now anyway cause I achieved a backup score of 11K so I’m gonna replace it anyway and cross the rest out.
  15. Here’s my 11th hour submission. EDIT: Normal run now with just a higher score. Pretty fun. I prefer the older blockier shooters like this. To be clear on what happened, I was on my second try on the first level and had made it over 10,000 and then (accidentally) picked up an R and immediately paused once it went back to the main screen, does this still count or no? 11,870
  16. I haven’t played yet but this ones almost surely participation for this fella. I noticed Gradius 2 another impossible game is on the docket too??? Whyyyyyyy
  17. 999,999 Think I did a bit better last night but its kind of a wash if it requires max. Easy, but still pretty tough to beat, and I assume max needs point pressing too? Anyway Never mind I maxed it lol. Gimmmeee the gold
  18. Yeah it totally would, I got access to SD cards everywhere, CF cards good luck finding em in real life. Friggin Worst Buy doesnt even carry em anymore. It's not just a cost thing it's a sustainability thing too, I dont wanna always have to chase another elusive CF card down to reload the ROM if something goes wrong. Yeah this thing is a dinosaur I gotta get on this Everdrive wagon
  19. Uhh I don't really know how low it would go in Battletoads, it's kinda moot I guess if getting to the end doing "the lowest" way is still max, if progress is the yardstick. Damn haven't played that shit in a while so i dont really remember. There's ways to take less points for doing stuff though along the way and it likely comes out on paper as less, wouldnt it just from a design perspective? but again i dunno. I'm hooped cause I cant even beat the Inferno
  20. It takes a CF card, the kind that go in cameras, a technological drag in hindsight, theyre pretty crappy and the pins are sensitive. I think there's some adapter you need to transfer ROMs too although it might just depend on the computer. I'm damn near the point where I just wanna do a flip n swap to a more modern cart solution... do people still buy Powerpaks??
  21. Battletoads = Progress + Low Score??? Pretty sure that ruleset's happened before but not sure I dont think this Spartan grind is worth it for the +5
  22. Speaking of NES ROMs and all that stuff does any have like a spare card with full NES/FC ROMs on it or a way to make one that goes with the PowerPak? I would offer some money for someone to help me out either way even if you wanna rip me off a bit lol, I kinda know how to do it but I'm pretty bad and my equipment isnt as good now, can't really be arsed, I just want to have a card with the full basic access. I play on the computer pretty much when im desperate, it's meh even with a controller but thats just me, but damn I got like almost none of these games
  23. To max or not to max.... thats like the question. Assuming it's 3 or 8, 5 points is a pretty good difference. Decisions
