  1. Maybe the Nintendo service team had a big stockpile of EPROMs to use for service calls on their arcade machines. And my guess if that general consumers probably did not make many warranty requests for NES cartridges, people probably just tossed them out if they thought they were defective. Given the low volume of returned product, Nintendo probably didn’t see it practical to stock replacement mask roms for NES games

I'd usually recommend against putting a large balance like that on a credit card unless she has the ability to repay most if not all of the balance at the end of the cycle. It'd probably be smarter for her to get a personal loan or borrow the money from a family member to avoid the high interest rates.

What about getting one of these special cards that offer zero interest for 1 year. Put it on the card and pay it down monthly over the course of a year.

Medical tourism is often a good idea. But pay attention to the quality of medical care at the destination you are going to. I don’t think Mexico is on the list of top medical tourism destinations. I think Panama is a good place if I remember correctly, but don’t know how much flights to Panama cost. Assuming the whole deal is like under $3 or 4K, probably not worth it unless you were already planning a vacation at that destination

  3. Root canal means your removing the roots from the tooth. That means the tooth is dead. Arch_angel is right, it’s needed as a placeholder to keep other teeth from shifting. But root canaled teeth are also more susceptible to reinfection. My boss just had his back tooth done a few months ago and just two days ago they ended up having to extract it.

Dental implants seem to have gotten pretty good. You should probably have those done pretty soon after an extraction to keep other teeth from shifting.

Lol, it's easy to differentiate. NintendoAge, (the site, and the people remaining) are not GoCollect.

The new regime is an outside corporation that has no community ties to NA.

Sorry I misread your post. In any case, after purchasing the site, I see gocollect and NA as one.

NA is an abandoned ship. We are not NA, we’re the former community of NA

  6. One time I bidded on Gradius V on PS2. I put a bid of $35 + $15 for shipping. After bidding I realized it was the Japanese version, which I have no interest in. I tried canceling the bid and contacting the seller to no avail.

I had accepted my fate,  nobody is gonna pay US price for the Japan version. Then when the auction ended, I found that someone outbidded me. Thanks Mr Sniper 🙏

Switch games, anything I've had, and while I half like half the titles I've actually used on the system total if that, I never bought game on there that needed a patch for it work.  Switch because I think again of the small internal storage developers are less jerky about it, not all, some are rotten no doubt, so they try and make it right first.  Mostly what Switch has received have been quality of life updates and/or fixes, paid or free DLC, but nothing that like is game breaking rotten, or 1/2 game 1/2 download non-sense like Capcom, 2K, and Rockstar(LA Noire) did.  And in those cases, it's just best not to buy their games at all so hopefully they get the message.

I’m kind of scared for switch. You are correct that many Switch games work right out of the box.   But a few months ago, I popped in Breath of the wild and the switch would not boot the game up. It said I need to upgrade my firmware before it would play the game. I tried to not download the update, just to keep from having to wait for the update, but it would not allow me to start the game.

I know typically when a game has software updates, it will allow you to play without installing the updates. But in this case it would not allow me to play without the firmware update. So I think that breath of the wild is no longer future-proof going forward.

  8. Super Fighter team recently refunded me money for a preorder of the second run of Nightmare Busters. Wondering why, I went to their website and apparently they are no longer publishing, they are going to focus on developing only.

Dang. Now I need to pay scalpers for a copy of Nightmare Busters. I’ll probably just pass on getting that game at this point

  9. My guess is that this has to do with the fact that a large portion of used Nintendo sales are for collectors. And collectors can be quite picky about condition.

The Amazon platform only has stock images, it does not allow sellers to post photos of their specific item. I can imagine tons of collectors having initiated returns because they were not satisfied with the condition of the game they bought. Amazon probably just figured that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

I'm a firm believer that Everything Else should be anything people want to post that isn't illegal.

If the mods want to add a couple of "tags" that more obviously label threads as "Politics" or "Religion", etc, that might be helpful to let people avoid accidentally clicking into something they don't expect to read.

(maybe even allowing people to filter out certain tags entirely, so they don't even see them -- kind of like a "foe" feature for entire topics)

But people that get upset about those kinds of threads should just avoid them in the first place.

I agree. The fact that many people do participate in political discussions shows that there is a need for an outlet.

Yes, some people do take things too far. But that’s not the fault of the topic being discussed, it’s still the responsibility of the person posting to regulate themselves and only post respectful content

  11. I thought I had asked this question on Nintendoage, but can’t seem to find it in the archives.

There is a chiptune artist named rushjet. He has done a phenomenal recreation of how all Megaman NES game soundtracks could have sounded if they were composed using Konami’s VRC6 sound chip.

I was wondering about how feasible it would be to replace the regular Megaman soundtracks in the rom with the enhanced VRC6 soundtracks.

The "Investor Pit" as they call it references Wall Street Commodity Tradings Pits, IE the Gold & Silver Pits. That's literally where they trade and make orders for investors to buy.

    Ahh. Excuse my ignorance.

In my mind it’s a place where people dump their unwanted trash.

  13. Video Games Investors Pit...

I find it curious that they chose to call it a “Pit”. Not exactly the most prestigious way of describing a meeting place. Almost sounds kind of derogatory. But GoCollect named it, not the detractors.

    Mind games??

  14. You could put a voting system in place. For any given referenced price, the community can vote on how accurate the current price is. You’d have a bunch of sellers voting that it should be higher, and a bunch of buyers voting that it should be lower.

You could use profiles of the people voting to determine whether they are biased and filter out the biased votes. The real market price would then probably be around some average of what the buyers and sellers collectively voted

  15. Some games have very low sales numbers. Does that necessarily mean they are rare?

I think sometimes publishers may sometimes anticipate a game to be a Blockbuster hit and they prepare by manufacturing tons of copies of a game. Then if it happens to flop, they are left with tons of unsold stock.

Those unsold copies end up getting liquidated to liquidation distributors. When a publisher sells games to a liquidator, do those games count in their official sales figures?

Example, Megaman Command Mission was a flop. I have read that it sold less than 10k copies worldwide. I don’t know if that’s for all platforms or just on GameCube. However, I remember them promoting the heck out of this game when it was coming out. I’m sure they made tons more than 10k copies as you can find it pretty much anywhere for cheap very easily. I know liquidators like Dealtavern were selling it some time ago.

Another example would be Metroid Other M. It sold well, but for a 1st party game it was a flop. I have seen people selling this game by the unopened case several times at flea markets for around $5 a copy. Were all of these copies being liquidated accounted for in official sales numbers?

I never got why people say $200 is expensive. You're getting a load of amazing consoles with amazing games, I personally wouldn't go with it cause just like the other guy I'm a sucker to have the OG hardware; even if the console has a noac

$200 is not a lot... FOR US.

For the casual person, who doesn’t care about perfect emulation and accurate sound, $200 is too much considering there are Chinese clones with all of the games preloaded for less than $50.

That said, there’s not enough of us who are willing to pay $200 for his thing to have an impact on the market price of game gear, neo geo pocket and Lynx cartridges

I was going to come in here and recommend a back swap. What is different about this back shell?

Megaman x3 has the special chip. So the cartridge needs more pins to go into the system. This is one of those carts that has two extra pcb comm sections surrounding the standard pcb comm sections that regular games have. So the cartridge shell also has extra notches for those pcb sections to poke through

Its funny to think how much a label changes the price.

Also about Sword Master, I was under the impression that it was just a major flaw in the programming haha.  In the US version its easier to walk off a ledge, THEN jump, than jumping twice.

One of these days I’m gonna buy the famicom version. Then I’ll report back whether it’s an issue on that one
