So last night was the 1st time I beat Contra. I think it is one those rare games that is enjoyable to replay the starting levels each time because it's action-oriented, super well-designed and you legitimately improve as you play. Ninja Gaiden was another game like that, although obviously sword rather than gun. Other than those two series', which games or series would you recommend on the NES that have the same play design and style as them?

Someone should hack ninja gaiden to have guns and controls like Contra. Then I’d play it

  2. I never played the Megaman Zero games. They seemed like too much of a drastic departure from my beloved Megaman X series. And the way the robots looked different just sealed the deal. I suspect that many Megaman fans feel the same way I do.

More recently I have realized that the MMX and MMZero stories are actually related to one another. Now Capcom will be re-releasing the Megaman Zero Collection pretty soon. It seems like a wasted opportunity.

What Capcom really should have done was to make a new game that explains how the X series ended and how the Zero series began. Then re-release the MMZero collection afterwards. You’d get all of the Megaman X fans to buy the new game, and then they’d all be curious to see what happens next. So then they’d all buy the Megaman Zero Collection.

I have a bad feeling that Megaman Zero Collection is not going to sell very well. This kind of makes me sad because I want Megaman to sell well so Capcom will continue to pursue the series. But they keep on making absent minded decisions when it comes to this series and then they want to blame the fans for not being interested.

I'm not sure exactly what I find the most ridiculous in this whole translation scandal, the fact that using 'tranny' for 'newhalf' in one line of dialogue in a fan made translation of a 30 years old Japanese game can create such a storm of outrage on social media, or the fact that the translator in question is so affected by the outrage that he decides to back out from doing something he obviously was passionate about. Two tempests in a very small water glass IMO.

I don’t use social media but my understanding is that it can have a huge impact on people emotionally and also on mental health. Negative attention on social media can trigger depression and sucidal thoughts in some people. So deciding to quit doesn’t seem quite unbelievable

Did you... even read my post?

This isn't about whether Japan is insensitive or has been - I'm very aware of the wording used in the original Japanese script (which is completely different from "tranny", but still offensive). The bigger issue here is why people are so fucking hellbent on picking a fight over this thing, and you're only proving my point by trying to add fuel to the fire.

This shouldn't have been a big Twitter outrage in the first place. It's just a dumb regrettable decision.

Japan is insensitive. They don’t get outraged. It’s not America. It’s a different culture. People in different cultures have different etiquettes. The rest of the world doesn’t share American liberal values.

I can’t believe that with the astronomical achievement of translating these games, people found a way to turn a celebration into complaints to the point of guilting a translation hero into quitting his volunteer efforts. Way to go.

You don’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water. Take the parts you like, leave the rest

Speaking of, I bought a 3DS just to get in on the Ambassador program.  I asked a while ago if I sold my 3DS with those games, what would it be worth, if not more than a typical 3DS.  I never got a price.  Still curious, although I'm not sure I want to get rid of it.  It contains my personal, first-played copy of Metroid Fusion, which I felt was a dang good Metroid.

The issue with ambassador 3ds is that you only get to keep the ambassador games as long as the original Nintendo account is linked to that device. If the buyer wants to buy eshop games on that device then they have to link the device to their own account meaning they have to wipe the data including the ambassador program

eBay. Toshiba or Lenovo. People are always selling older stuff that may not even be 2 years old. If you can think of how not to use Windows you can get a chrome book for ultra cheap and get some kind of ide on it.

I read online some people will use Remote Desktop on chrome books to connect to a pc that’s always online in their closet. That’s how they get their windows fix.

sounds like a good idea. I’m a straight pc guy though

Can't you spin it to your boss that 1) python / Anaconda is free and 2) it could be useful to your job (I don't know what line of work you're in though). Most IT departments will make exceptions on a case by case basis.

Unfortunately I’m not in IT. My manager wont see the value in Python as it relates to my current role, as there is none, and our IT dept isn’t much of an IT department. Typical solution is to tell us “yea that’s a known issue” or “we can’t do that”

  8. Is it possible to have a poll that users can rank a whole list of poll items. Then the poll can sum the scores assigned by everyone’s ranks and rank all items based on their score?

For example if I wanted to find out the best-to-worst ranking in a list of 10 games, and everyone ordered them from best to worst, then we could get a consensus of everyone’s feedback based on some mathematical averages. Could this be done??

  9. Ha ha ha.. while all you suckers were paying hundreds of dollars for an NES, and hundreds, maybe even thousands for a modest NES library in the late 1980s, I waited patiently and didn’t play NES until the early 2000’s and got to play NES for pennies on the dollar. Ha ha ha.

Hopefully I can live another 20 years so I can rip you all a second time with the Nintendo Switch! 😂

  10. I am learning to code Python. Have only been using my company issued laptop for the past 5+ years. I am not allowed to install apps on my company laptop, so will need to buy my own NEW personal laptop as my personal laptop is from 2007.

What do you all recommend for a $500 budget? Need Windows. I am more interested in build quality and ongoing support for the hardware... not so much on the high end specs.. I know theres a lot of Chinese gaming laptops these days that boast high end specs, but are poorly designed.

Would like to stick with HP, Lenovo, Samsung and the like..
