  1. Geral and genre scoreboards updated. @PIIis our 2022 Puzzle champion! Congratulations!
  2. Final standings posted. And with this, we have our 2022 VGS NES WEEKLY CONTEST PUZZLE CHAMPION! All hail @PIIthe king of puzzles of 2022!!! Regarding the low participation, I blame the combo hard rules + late in the season. So, lesson learned. Keep gruesome hard rules for the start of the season.
  3. The state of collecting NES games, which would inevitable drawn new people towards the contest has also changed significantly because everything is so much more expensive now, so we aren't drawing new players. It is a tough math, not boring the regulars by having always the same games while needing to have the classics in the hopes to draw one or two new people to the contest with them.
  4. This, so much this. That's why speed run was chosen for it. Castlevania was left out of the contest for too long due to broken scoring or boring mechanics for progress + low score. Speed running fixed that.
  5. I enjoyed using this to introduce people to awesome, fun, amazing Famicom games, but if you all want more classics, more classics it will be then.
  6. I am considering how things will be next year. This new scoring works much better when you have 12+ people playing every week and we're reaching half of that on average, even with me trying to make it so that grinding for a high score is a fast ordeal, since I know time tends to be premium these days. Still, we will still be running in 2023.
  7. 1st Bearcat-Doug 122,400 2nd Dr. Morbis 103,800 3rd PII 90,500 4th docile tapeworm 85,100 5th NESfiend 68,800 6th 8bitdontquit 65,100 7th Philosoraptor 33,000
  8. Welcome ACES! Are you ready to take on a very dangerous mission which will rely on your flying skills? The stakes are HIGH for this one, for @docile tapeworm and @Dr. Morbis are fighting neck and neck for the 2022 Shooter championship, with Pii a bit far away, but still with the chance to take it. Even though there is no rules for ACES, here's the rules for this week: Play till you game over or till you beat the game If you beat the game, you can game over to take the picture at the high score screen with your highest score, since the highscore screen at the end of the mission stays for too short of a time. Take your picture at the high score screen Participation: You must beat mission 1 Highest score wins The contest ends Sunday, 10/16/22 at 11 PM VGS time. Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid. The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid. No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted. No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed. You must take a picture of your computer monitor. There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers. Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator. Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests. The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed. Good luck everyone and have fun.
  9. Fixed the action scoreboard and posted the updated genre and geral scoreboards. @the_wizard_666 is our Sports genre champion for 2022. For Puzzle, @PII has a sizeable lead, but he can still lose it if he doesn't place very well today!
  10. Final standings posted. And with this, @the_wizard_666 is our 2022 VGS NES WEEKLY CONTEST SPORTS GENRE CHAMPION! HOORAY!!!
  11. I will check that. The worksheet probably had the wrong genre in it if it happened and it will be an easy fix.
  12. Last time starting at level 15 proved to be way too easy for such skilled gamers, so amped up the challenge to WCT levels!

With no further ado, here's the RULES: Play on type A Start at level 18 - Hold A while picking level 8 to pick level 18 Highest score wins In case two or more players reach 999,999 points, the one that reached it on the lowest level will win Participation: 11,400 (half the score value of a Tetris on level 18) Genre: Puzzle The contest ends Sunday, 10/09/22 at 11 PM VGS time. May you be teaching the new generation of wicked Tetris players in Valhalla. “Boom Tetris For Jeff”, Tang, Chris, 2016.
  15. I may be able to partake on it this year and I do like this idea, but I will be limited to emulators right now.

  18. Ladies and gentlemen, we are back from our break week! And this time, our combatants will aim to prove who is the best of the best in... something that doesn't quite look like Karate, but since the game title has karate in it, let's go with Karate! This week will decide who will carry the laurels of being the 2022 VGS NES WEEKLY CONTEST SPORTS GENRE CHAMPION! @Dr. Morbis will have to win and hope that @the_wizard_666 doesn't put up a score in order to win. Otherwise, The_wizard_666 will be our champion!
