  1. We will announce the schedule till the 30th of January.
  2. Absolutely. This would make it fast and very fun to do.
  3. The scoring system will definitely be revised. I formulated it with a participation of 10+ people every week, but with the lower average we had, I will revisit it and change it to better suit our number of players.
  4. Fact is, I will put more known games in the schedule, but I will spare some slots for obscure, fun famicom and less known NES games too. Can't run this without those at all. But another option is also passing the torch of the contest if people think that will be for the best of it's future.
  5. Yeah, those were fun times. I no longer have the free time to beat them like that anymore.
  6. There is something that can be done. Adjust rules so that runs take no more than 15, 20 minutes to do for the vast majority of the games. Most of us aren't in their 20s or even 30s anymore. Players free time is a concern I have to keep in mind going forward with this. Bringing in new players will also prove difficult because the influx of new blood in the forums itself is being low due to the state of NES collecting and because the people in their early 20s now have nostalgia for their childhood PS2s, not their NES, Gameboys or SNESes. We are an aging lot and there won't be many new people dying to come here and prove their NES game skills.
  7. I will bring the idea of a shorter season with longer game time so we can also increase the days for tournament games to @guillavoieand see what we can work out for 2023.
  8. Speed running will definitely be back in 2023, but in the form of speed running a stage or two only to make it faster and easier to record for the players. There are several great games that would be tough to include in the line up without using speed running rules.
  9. Hello brave contestants! Let us discuss the 2022 season! Post here suggestions for the 2023 season, things you think that you liked, things you disliked, things you hated so we can do a better season in 2023! For my impressions: Having tough rules during the season seems to detract participation when closer to the end of the season. Particularly hard rules should be kept at early games in the season and tournament only. Famicom games should be kept to a minimum, and be more known, fun ones like Circus Charlie and Antarctic Adventure The rules to make for shorter runs during the tournament seem to have been well accepted and should be used during the regular season. They may also help with increased participation since it takes a much lesser time commitment to play. I am still struggling to find a good tournament format and I am open to suggestions here so we can try to make them more fun in 2023. Thank you all for partaking in the contest in 2022. I am eager to listen to all your suggestions and criticisms to 2022's season and improve for 2023. ~Bea
  10. Worry not. I will award them when they are available again.
  11. Ah, so this is why I am being unable to award the 2022 contest charms. Everything makes sense now!
  12. I will posting the season post mortem this weekend so we can discuss ideas for the next year's contest. The badges will also be awarded this weekend.
  13. I wanted to go with Rolling Thunder quest 2 which is harder than Code Name Viper's quest 2, but I decided to take it easy on you guys for the tournament finals.
  14. And with this, we end our 2022 season. Congratulations to @Dr. Morbis for winning the tournament and to @Krunch, @NESfiend and @docile tapeworm for the strong show up at the tournament. Thank you all for partaking in it. Once I deal with some serious family stuff here, I will post a post mortem thread about the 2022 season so we can discuss what went well, what didn't and how we can improve for 2023.
  15. The main idea was so that no one would be eliminated because they were handed a bad hand in the form of a genre they aren't actually good at. This was an issue some years ago. Two games per week also allows us to run through all 6 genres of the contest through the tournament, but they need to have rules that account for shorter runs so that it won't take too much time to get good runs in each game. Some further study will be needed to improve over this format. The rules that focus on shorter runs will be used through 2023 to get a better feeling of how to best make them work.
  16. Adjusted the rules to be more clear, forbid the use of a time door more than once and to change it to highest progress + highest score.
  17. Black Friday week had my largest clients keeping me busy as hell. I will be able to post the final standings for round 1 and 2 tomorrow.
  18. Remember that you don't have to reach 4-1 in a single life.

  20. Yes, making it to 4-1 is a requirement for your score to be valid.
  21. This' a tournament. You have to make use of the best learning tools available if you want to come up on top. I didn't become the best player of my character in Street Fighter V in Brazil by not using the training mode and the saving options to train against specific situations against every other characters.
  22. This is where save states come in handy. Save the game before that part and practise it till doing it deathless is second nature.
  23. You can absolutely do it. No deathing one loop of Life Force isn't too hard.
