If you had asked me this question between 1998 and 2002, I would have told you it was 10/10 material. I had a circle of friends that would all regularly play this game together over LAN, alongside multiplayer games of Diablo, Quake and Blood. I would also mess around in the single player campaign for hours, just trying new unit combinations and strategies. I thought it was boss.

Somewhere along the way though, I've lost all my enthusiasm and interest in the RTS genre. Maybe I'm just a tired, old man but if I'm going to play a strategy game today, I'll exclusively opt for turn-based games. Sid Meier's Civilization series or a game like Invisible Inc. is much more my speed now. I haven't the will or desire to click around frantically and try to memorize unit production queues in real time anymore.

Still, for the game itself, I have to give Starcraft an 8/10. I won't ever play it other than for a few minutes of nostalgia anymore but I do think the core design is solid, the art direction and atmosphere are gorgeous, it pays tons of homage to great sci-fi books and movies and many of its characters have become iconic.
