@fcgamer - I think your "quality-averaging" idea would be a good way to rate something like a TV series or a music album - media where there is an expectation for you to take-in all of it holistically. But unfortunately I don't think it would apply very well to consoles since that "consume-everything" expectation doesn't really translate.

I'd agree with others that, as far as game consoles are concerned, high quality releases are the focal point for ranking, and mediocre shovelware wouldn't mar their positive impact.

If we're gonna be completely objective here - we'll have to ditch fun-factor and gameplay entirely. We'll run these consoles through the scientific method to find the real king...
