I don't normally do download only games...but I did get FF7/8/9 for their 1/2 off sale...and yes I did it for the trophies

So as you guys might know, normally I'm dead set against download only games.  If I'm gonna pay good money for a game, it's gotta be a "for real" disc/cartridge.  But because I happened to accidentally stumble upon someone mentioning the Switch version of FF9 (it's a real offical release right?) I checked the PSN store and wouldn't you know it?  All three games in the PS1 "trilogy" (so to speak) were on a half off sale!  I thought the $21 regular price for FF9 was way too much for a game I "already had" but I figured a ten spot I could live with and I figured to get the other two as well.

So what made me do this one time exception to my usual rule?  Well, I know this may not be politically correct to say but I wouldn't have bothered if it weren't for the trophies.  Not to mention it does give me a perfect excuse to give these games another go around.  But apparently the games' graphics (especially my favorite, FF9) got "cleaned up" considerably compared to the originals?  Of course to get some of these trophies I gotta be very careful and do things I normally was "eh" when I first played the original PS1 versions many years back.  For example that sword fight near the beginning of the game in FF9?  You must get a perfect score or else you'll be locked out of a "get all four moonstones" gold trophy.  And just like with FFX-2's 100% gold trophy, you must be very careful and watch every ATE...and that only gets you a silver!!  Now one trophy I know it'll be skipping if that gold one for getting the Excalibur II...which you must speedrun to its location in <12 hours.  Not only would that require a separate playthrough, I don't think speed running really belongs in a quest/RPG sort of game.  And in FF7 there's a trophy that you get by going on a date...but only if you go out with Barret, a man!!  Not to mention you apparently have to mean to the girl characters to make it happen?  I'm skipping that one too.  So I guess I won't be platinuming these but that's okay, there ~100ish B/S/G prizes to go for so I think I'll get my $30 worth don't you?

I've also gotten around to working some on Final Fantasy 13...and apparently 13-2 has a casino that works just like the ones in Dragon Quest?  Super!  What's the earliest I can play it?  I don't mind the so called "linearity" (I do try my best to get all the eh, treasure balls(???) in each area) and while the battle system is quite confusing at first, it kinda makes sense as you go along?  I think I'm now on the 5th chapter and it looks like I'll need to start doing that weird Crystarium System thing (their version of Sphere Grid) which is rather confusing. 😞  Should I just simply start with the lowest cost "nodes" and work my way up?

Don't worry.  He'll be gentle.

Excalibur is easy.

Have fun with the jump rope, however.

But at least that's one you can go back to and try anytime.  It's the permanently missable stuff you gotta be careful about.

I'm just glad I didn't cave.  8 is awful.  FF7 I have the original PC release with that wicked one off yamaha sound synth score, and FF9 I got the card english release for Switch and I'm working on it currently slowly.

Oh yeah, thanks for eh indirectly leading me to get these on the PS4.  I would've never known about their 1/2 off sale if hadn't brought that Switch version of FF9 to my attention.

And yeah I did/do find the way FF8 works to be rather confusing. 😞  But apparently no one at the time seemed too bothered by it and managed to figure it out!  Maybe I'm just stupid... 😞

Nah not stupid, just know bad design when you see it and didn't give it a blind eye pass being a total FF suckup.  I was big on FF for a great many years, tried 8 at a store kiosk(non timed out) for a good long stretch back in the era and it blew.  I got it, I just hated it so I've never bought it and never will.
