I once repaired a game where the PRG chip was bad.  So I put in an EPROM but still kept the original but dead chip.  I think for something like this, someone might not mind since the price would have to have been dropped because it was essentially broken.  Also the person buying it has to know that it has been repaired as well.

I'm surprised battery swaps are considered even a tiny bit controversial. The appeal in owning a cart is being able to play it (even if eventually the owner doesn't find the time to play it), and that can't be done without the battery being replaced.
