Bought a copy of Asian Version Super Mario Bros. Trying to find information on rarity and price

Recommended Posts

Hello and thank you for any help in advance! I recently purchased a copy of Super Mario Bros Asian Version with box included. I didn’t know much about this when I purchased it, I am a huge Mario fan and bought this because it was different and I thought it would be a really cool display piece for my collection, so I started doing some digging on google to find out some more information about it. I came across a few articles about a copy very similar in appearance to mine that supposedly sold for $30,000 at auction! Needless to say I was shocked to see this, but also a little skeptical as I didn’t pay all that much money for my copy. When looking up information on this version of the game, I was able to find 3 different box art variations ( I included photos of all three versions of the boxes I was able to find) The one that sold for $30,000 I noticed said action series on it, and says Asian Version in English with Chinese writing underneath. The one I purchased is identical to this version, but without the action series icon in the lower left corner, it does say Asian version in English and Chinese writing underneath. And the 3rd version of the box I was able to find was all in English and says Honk Kong Version in the lower left corner. I was curious if my copy is an earlier release ( or first release ) of this game, as it does not say action series. Or was the action series version released first? Any help in figuring out more about the differences of these box variants, and their values would be greatly appreciated. Did I accidentally buy a really rare version of this game? Thank you for all of your time and help in this matter.

ive seen some of the asian version nes games and they differ wildly in price even for the same game. Super mario bros one ive seen loose go for anywhere from 50-140! An somewhat recently i saw a complete copy go for like 130 or so. so the jury is out of what it could sell for, i would say anywhere between 100-200. As for rarity, I have no idea how or why that one sold for 30k but as for yours, I think you have the run of the mill asian version of the game. Still pretty rare, especially in the states. As a side note the hong kong version is not the same as the asian versions as the asian versions were released in a different region.
