I've decided to try to complete thirty Famicom games within thirty days. I started this goal Sunday night. Ideally I'd aim for one game a day, but due to life, I might skip a day here and there, and then do multiple games a different day.

Progress (26/30) :

01. Panic Restaurant

02. Time Diver Avenger

03. Rockman 2

04. Castlevania III

05. Secret Ties (unreleased NES game)

06. Castlevania

07. Final Fight 3

08. Highway Star (Rad Racer)

09. Gun Dec (Vice Project Doom)

10. Nemo: Pajama Hero

11. die Schluempfe

12. Huang Di

13. Disney's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom

14. Cross-Strait Independence

15. TaleSpin

16. Super Mario Bros. 3

17. Mad City (Adventures of Bayou Billy)

18. Spartan X2

19. Mitsume ga Tooru (Three Eyed Boy)

20. Rockman 3

21. Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken 2 : Donuts Ike wa Oosawagi!

Maybe you already have 30 games picked out, but if not I am suggesting one, called Grand Master, it's top down action, a bit of maze and monster fighting with some standard RPG leveling up, basic typical gameplay, nothing unique or extraordinary but does everything well enough. It's not too hard but still challenging, but still can be beaten pretty much first day played at least within a few hours first time, maybe less. You can also play stages in in order. The character also dresses different depending on the area, and can use various different weapons once obtained. And depending on your knowledge of japanese, is only necessary for the cut scenes otherwise not needed during the gameplay. I played this one some years ago and rather enjoyed the game. Anyway if you don't have it already on your list of Famicom games to try to beat, it could be.

That's good to hear. I've had Grand Master lying around for the better part of a decade, and I haven't even pulled myself together to pop in the cartridge yet.

How are you picking games? Random or easy or?

I'm assuming you have a bunch of weird titles that most westerners aren't familiar with, it'd be cool to see some of those with gameplay pics

Hey Lincoln, first off I plan to add gameplay pics sometime soon to this thread. Everytime I've played through a game, I've been spamming @OptOut's messenger with pictures and commentary, and I plan to add some of that here too, I've just been so busy playing through the games to get much else done 😉

About chosing the titles, I've basically decided to stick to games I've already played through before, at some point, or games that I *think* I could play through without much difficulty, since I actually want to try to complete thirty games in thirty days.

Some of the games are unlicensed and obscure, some are classics such as Super Mario Bros. 3 (I saved it for Christmas day).  I'm trying not to pick all easy games, rather trying to use this as an oportunity to play through more games, getting back to what got me into this to begin with -- not the monetary side, rather just the enjoyment of the games themselves!

Good luck, hope you can find some stuff short enough because time is going to be a problem eventually, that or your rules allow for a game that is point racking to be done once you recycle the maps.

I'm ahead of schedule right now, and tomorrow is Friday night, and it is free. I think I'll try to play through a couple more games then, and also hope to play through another game tonight before bed!

I have decided to adjust my rules slightly, just to be pragmatic about it. Last Friday I worked my way through Highway Star (Rad Racer), a classic from my childhood. I had to work on Saturday though, a rare occurence, so by the time midnight came about I shut the machine off, despite just reaching the final race. The next day I woke up early and used the stage select to take me back to the final race, and beat it before going in to work. Although I didn't get the proper ending due to this, I still count it as a victory, since I wasn't really cheating (just didn't want to leave my machine on all night, stay up late and possibly oversleep for work, or restart from scratch). I did the same with Super Mario Bros. 3, started playing after dinner yesterday, made it to world six before calling my family to chat, since it was Christmas. Then by the time we were finished, I wanted to head to bed rather than to finish. So I warped to world six today after work and picked off where I left off, albeit disadvantaged since I lost all the items and lives. Again though, this was still a playthrough of the game.

Just an added note, when playing through these games, I am not skipping stages, and I am playing on the "normal" game setting, with standard amount of lives, etc.

That's a fun idea. I try to play through Akumajo Special: Boku Dracula-kun and Kyatto Ninden Teyandee once every couple of years. Both can be beaten in a day, easy. The Famicom has such a great library.

Well it's a bit stressful actually, trying to make sure I crank something out every couple of days. With that said, I'm just trying to go back to my roots here. Somewhere along the line I began shelving more carts than actually playing them, and although I'm fine with that, it feels good to be giving the games some proper playtime. I actually need to credit @OptOut for inspiring me to do this.

I understand that struggle. It's been over a decade since I've not had a backlog. My new year's resolution every year is to beat 20 games a year, so my hat's off to you for taking this on and congrats on your progress so far.
