  1. My biggest excitement was the announcement of Splatoon 3. Then they said "2022" and I was bummed.

That Octopath strategy games looks cool, though. As does the new Mario Golf. New Monster Hunter looks fun, too.

As cool as it is that they added tactile controls to Skyward Sword (as I passed on it all those years due to the motion controls), I can't believe how horribly it's aged. The footage shown looks laughably bad to me. What an ugly looking game! Just me?

Yeah they were bundled in issues 111-116 but nowadays they are almost always missing from those issues so I had to go hunting for them separately

The full run is just 7 issues? I know I have a few of them. I wonder how close I am to a full set. Would have hooked you up w/ any you had missing that I had, had I known you were looking for them.

  3. Tetris, to me, is "video games" distilled to its purest sense. It's a desert island game. And I think the fact that no matter how many other games I play, T99 remains my most played Switch game (by a margin of like 100 hours) speaks volumes. So yeah, 10/10.

  4. this reminds me of my N64, which my brother gave to me after he found in a basement. The shell of the N64 is all cracked and ripped apart around the cartridge slot. Looks to me like the previous owner decided they wanted to play imports on it, but the only tool they had at their disposal was a friggin' hammer.

Part of me wants to buy a nice replacement shell, but most of me kind of likes the character it gives this console. It looks like it was dropped off a building, but it still chugs along dutifully. Though, I did cut myself pretty bad on it once, haha.

I was very surprised to see this bundle on Mercari for $77. With tax and shipping I paid $91. And it didn’t get bought up in seconds. Makes no sense!

Plus I got worried the seller was going to back out because after a few days it still showed as awaiting shipment / no tracking but then it turned out she was just having difficulty getting it to UPS. Her other listings were all “fair market value” so I was surprised to get a deal on this.

The only games here I already had were Zoids and NFL Blitz. The rest are all new for me and Viewtiful Joe RHR is one I’ve been seeking for a long time and I never saw it outside of eBay. Funny that after looking for this one and Double Trouble for so long I ended up finding them both in a short timespan!

Beach Spikers is so good. Love that game.

  6. with all the recent hype about this new remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy, I've finally popped ME3 into my Wii U last night. I played the first 2 games YEARS ago, and enjoyed them at the time, but never finished either because I got distracted by other games.

That said, I think I'm in the right headspace for ME3 right now. It's the sort of game I'm in the mood for right now. And I quite enjoyed the little Genesis 2 comic book choose-your-own-adventure recap of the first 2 games that precedes the Wii U edition.

  7. I don't collect cards, nor have any interest. That said, I know I've got a couple of the Nintendo Power promo cards still in issues of the magazine. Pretty sure I have Mewtew and Pikachu. Maybe others? I'd have to dig out the mags and check. Anyone know if these are worth anything?

Exactly why I'm going to setup one of those accounts I said on the other page.  Screw them, they're not getting access to the same account my paycheck and bills get bounced off of, never going to have that kind of power or control.  They'll be cut off to a managed account where I'll keep a very low balance to cover any of their crap and the rest stuffed into the other one to shield against their bs.  Any funny business, I block em and remove the funds, end of story.

I understand. And I guess I could do something similar, but now it feels like "work." Like, ebay is making me do work to continue using them. That really lowers my motivation to keep using them.

  9. I'm actually surprised 2 is in the lead, but that's cool. I figured it'd be 50/50 of 1 (either version) and 4.

To get slightly off topic, I don't think anyone will vote for either of the Revelations games as their FAVORITE, but I must say that they're both excellent games and should be played by anyone who's a fan of 1-3 and Code Veronica.

  10. Random question, and here seemed like a good place to ask...

For Christmas somebody game me a giftcard for 12 months of Switch Online. However, I already am enrolled in the family plan, and am good until like September. Is there any way for me to use this giftcard as just straight up eShop credit, or is it only good for Switch Online membership? (In which case, it won't even cover the renewal, since the family plan costs more)

    2/10 for me.

I find the battle royale genre interesting in concept. But I've had trouble really enjoying it personally. I played Fortnite once with my buddy and his two kids online, and it didn't go great. It was a lot of the like the two kids (early teens) yelling at me "pick that up!" "what are you doing?!?!" "no not that gun!" and me just repeating "I've never played this before, I don't know what I'm doing!"

The experience was sort of similar to the one time I dabbled in PUBG and the one time I dabbled in Apex Legends. The games just didn't click with me. I think I can see WHY some people get really into them. I found the experience(s) a bit too stressful, though.

I do think that some of the Fortnite content is INTERESTING (not saying 'good' or 'bad'), such as recently showing movies in-game or having concerts or whatever. It's interesting because the game itself has become such a social experience.

It's also interesting that "Fortnite" has become ubiquitous with "gaming" the way that Minecraft did before it, and the way that Super Mario Bros did long before that.

I don't know. Fortnite isn't for me, but I understand why people are into it I guess.

This thread got bumped, so it's funny for me to read this now because somewhat embarrassingly (?) it turns out that Fortnite ended up being my most played Switch game in 2020. Somehow, it ended up clicking and I had a lot of fun with it for a few months. I never bought any skins or spent any money on it, and I'm probably 'done' with it now, but I was able to find the fun in it for a while there.
