id also like to say power blade is overrated. That game is almost not good. then you got power blade 2….. yuk.

  2. Alright, I'm gonna come out and just say it: flying through the rings is fun! It's actually fun!!!

Yeah, Superman handles like a flying shopping cart, especially if you have to stop and turn around, but frankly that's a SKILL issue, IMO. If you can handle a trident controller and a stiff stick, it's not even a thing. 😎

Challenge accepted, but I promise I will be fair and give it a genuine rating based on how I feel once I've beat the whole game.

I will warn you though, after playing for a around 2 hours I am already LEGIT hovering around a 4... 😳

Ah. I should've been more clear in my previous post, Twin Eagles Groups specifically made hacks to put on pirate carts, they weren't making hack that other people did repros of

I have heard and seen a few pictures of some early N64 bootlegs out of Hong Kong, but I understand they are extra-ordinarily rare. I believe most N64 piracy done back in the day was using either Bung's Dr.V hardware, or the Z64 zip disks. Even those were very uncommon to see though, I never actually knew anyone who used those methods to pirate N64 games back in the day. Meanwhile, people were passing around burnt PS1 and Dreamcast discs like candy, so I reckon Nintendo did pretty well on the piracy protection for this system.

I could do so, but I don't want to disrespect OptOut's thread. One initial comment of mine, which required no responses, has suddenly turned into an unnecessary back and forth.

You disrespected it with your initial comment. Don't make comments if you're not wanting responses.

But yes - since you're incapable of providing a single example of a phenomenal bootleg, best to let the conversation get back to the actual intent of the topic.

Fuckin hell guys, get a room. 🙄

For bootlegs/hacks off the top of my head there was a hack of ISS64 by Twin eagles Group, and there was a multicart that has some NES games on it. Other than that I don't think the N64 had much of note in terms of that sort of stuff

Thanks for the suggestions, there are actually a TON of hacks floating around for the N64 these days. I'm not including those on my list though, only original releases and licensed reproductions.

I would recommend reaching out to Roo, either on his website or on Twitter. I’ve known him to be pretty responsive.

Roo got back to me pretty quick! He said he'd send me another cart, seems like a great guy! 😊

Hmmm... I've gotten hold of my copy of Big2Small and I'm sorry to say it's been a very disappointing experience.

I managed to make my way through the first couple of puzzles, until I reached the final puzzle of the first world.

After beating that level, the game crashes as soon as my character enters the overworld screen.

I tried several times to progress past that point, including starting a new save file, and it would always crash to this fault screen:

    IMG20240114204109.jpg.48907e781997907b6c4eacc7a821b486.jpg

Unless there are any cheats that can help me to bypass that level, or some other strategy to fix this issue, I may be unable to playthrough this game as I intended.

I will be contacting the developer, as I bought it directly from their site, but other than that I'm pretty bummed tbh.

@Scrobins not sure if you have any idea what I might be able to do to remedy this situation?

Do you have any lines of contact with the dev for this game?

I thought it was space invaders, because the triangle thing looks just like the ship!

But, actually they are hieroglyphics from Mario Land... And the bad guy from Mario Land is ALSO an alien...

Aliens built the pyramids confirmed? 🤔

  10. I've already come up with my strat for solving this problem. On the eve of my 64th birthday, I will gather the townsfolk for a celebration and feast in the village square. There will be much eating, drinking, dancing and merriment. As the sun begins to set, the local children will be tasked with carrying all the sacred objects from my game room, and guided in the construction of a vast effigy in my image.

Just before the stroke of midnight, an unnatural hush will fall upon the now somber crowd, as I ascend to a seated position in the crown of the effigy. As the winds pick up and strangely oppressive clouds gather, many of the townsfolk share fearful glances and some breakdown in tears. Once ready, I begin the ritual, crying out to the heavens with a righteous fury my cursed bargain in a forbidden tongue. The following moments of silence, accented by gentle sobbing and shocked gasps, stretch out for what feels like an eternity, only to broken in an instant by a single deadly bolt from above.

The bargain accepted, the pyre ablaze... I ascend to my final form.

You don't have to argue anymore. The photo is not a real machine, but the real machine looks like this, exactly the same. I don't think there is any misleading.

Listen dude, don't take my critical stance as me wishing you or your project any ill-will. I will be VERY happy indeed to see whatever you manage to come up with.

I just like it when things are kept closer in line with realistic expectations. The further things stray from reality, the more uneasy I become.

What do you think he means when he says "the HDMI and USB interfaces are installed on the back panel"? He's also said that this console is playing something, it's just difficult to record the screen for some reason.

IDK, maybe he's lying or hiding things, but taking him at his word, this picture is of his console, which has been shoved into this case (because he hasn't had shells manufactured).

He's speaking a second language, he's translating from Chinese, which screws with the grammar. He means it WILL have that stuff.

As far as I understand, that is just literally a famiclone. He has no prototype, he doesn't even seem to have finalized the software side of things yet.

  13. 43 minutes ago, Khromak said:

I mean, in the OP he said:

So I don't think there's a lot of misleading here. He was pointing to the console because Steam doesn't offer a physical cartridge, which he said is the way he prefers to develop/play games, also in the OP.

Say what you will about the viability or necessity for his idea, but he's not being misleading, he's only pointing out things he already said earlier in the thread for people making irrelevant suggestions 🤷‍♂️

Well he says the first batch IS a test model, but as far as I understand he hasn't actually made one of his supposed consoles just yet. So it's not a test model, there is no test model yet. That picture isn't a picture of his prototype console, it's just a picture of what he expects it to look like. It's just a famiclone.

Therefore, I DO think it's misleading, honestly. I want to see a homebrew console, but he doesn't have one. He has an idea for one, but there's no telling it will ever come to fruition.

Don't just show us a picture of something that ISN'T what you're going to make, I want to see what he does have, that's what I'm saying.

I have already said that the shell and handle of the initial model of HS are just like this, and the appearance looks exactly the same. The cartridge adapter is the same as that of FC, which is 60pin. As for the game screen you want to see, I will show it to you, but it takes time

Well I understand that you may want your final product to end up LOOKING like this, but you will need to develop an entirely bespoke motherboard containing all the components you wish to comprise the design of your machine. In so doing, you will also have to produce your own shell design, which might look like the photo you have shown, but will nonetheless still need to be designed to your bespoke specifications.

In all likelihood, whatever machine you end up designing will be, in substance, SIGNIFICANTLY different from the photo of the famiclone you have shown. So, I would just like to make sure that people are clear about this fact, because otherwise it may be somewhat misleading.

Do you think it looks like a PC?

That's a generic famiclone. The cost of components for a device like that is about 2 bucks, and each of those components is already mass-produced in the millions around the world.

What does this photograph have to do with the bespoke gaming system you are supposedly intending to produce? You might as well show us a picture of a Space Shuttle and tell us all about the amazing idea you have for building a spaceship. 🙄
