  1. Isn't it a strange set? This one looks like it was definitely sold in Canada. There really isn't much information about it out there!
  2. I recently picked up the version of the NES Action Set that came bundled with Hogan's Alley instead of SMB + Duck Hunt. It's a thick box, rather than the long thin design that the usual Action Set appeared as. The styrofoam tray that holds the console inside is the same size as the ones found in NES Control Deck boxes. The Zapper is housed in a separate styrofoam tray that has a white sleeve overtop. However, when putting everything into the box, there is clearly way too much empty space. A boxed copy of Hogan's Alley will not fit, I'm assuming it's supposed to be stored loose in the styrofoam tray along with the console. Were there inserts that would have come along with this console in order to stop the box from being crushed? I can't imagine it would have been shipped with the Zapper free to move around. All of my online searches haven't turned up any results. Any info on how this box is supposed to look when complete would be greatly appreciated!
  3. Thank you! Before playing through all of the NES games I had never really touched any strategy stuff. Now after beating Bandit Kings of Ancient China, Gemfire, and L'Empereur I've really come appreciate the Koei games! I also recently beat Little Ninja Brothers. What a huge improvement over Kung Fu Heroes!
  4. Go play Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Also, I'm Canadian so we pay like a billion dollars more for everything.
  5. Wow, you're doing an amazing job! I'm definitely interested in a physical release whenever you get there. I love a good SMB throwback, and yours is looking beautiful.
  6. I have a small collection of Korean items. I always liked how the label wraps around the top on the NES Comboy games. I don't think Solomon's Key has been posted yet. It's been really cool seeing everyone else's Korean items!
  7. It's funny how on top of all the other things Kung Fu Heroes shares with Super Mario Bros. (it's really surreal hearing the 1-up sound effect in a non-Mario game, especially considering that it's not even appropriately used when you get a 1-up!) it shares the continue code as well. Was there any particular connection between the games? Little Ninja Brothers is definitely an improvement, and it makes me want to go back and give Kung Fu Heroes another shot someday. The trick is to hold the Zapper in one hand and the controller in the other. There were some parts, particularly in the hell level, where just by putting the controller cursor in a certain sport and holding the shoot button it made things a little easier. Nice job beating it!
  8. Hello everyone! I've been collecting retro video games since the mid 2000s. I first played the NES at an age earlier than I can even remember and have been hooked ever since. Even now the vast majority of my gaming time is taken up by NES games, as I'm currently on a quest to beat every game released in North America without savestates or cheats. My licensed NA NES cart collection is 4 games short of being complete. I come from an age when garage sales and thrift stores reigned supreme, and thus dropping what was at the time relatively large amounts of money on those rarer titles just didn't make sense to me. "But I could find it at the thrift store tomorrow!" I'd say. Well, I've certainly learned my lesson now. Otherwise, I enjoy collecting for and playing games from just about any console. From Nintendo to Sega to Atari to NEC. I document a lot of my adventures in gaming on my YouTube channel, where I also have a room tour: It's great to see everyone here having fun and staying in touch the old fashioned way. I've always preferred message boards to social media. So thank you for keepin' it retro, and I look forward to seeing you around.
  9. That's fair too! I love NES games and just thought I'd share a few of my recent clears that were still unclaimed. But I'd hate to take games away from any more established members who might have tackled them.
  10. Thank you! I'm currently playing through every single North American NES game (including unlicensed ones, and without savestates and cheats) alphabetically. At this moment I am working on Little Ninja Brothers. I started the year with Incredible Crash Dummies, so I could technically fill in any gap between there and where I'm at now (with the exception of Kung Fu Heroes because I discovered the continue code by accident and decided to run with it. World 8 was still hard as heck regardless!) I document some of my playthroughs on my YouTube channel, while other games I play more casually and then just document myself with photos like those posted above. I don't want to throw too many games at you all at once, but feel free to give me a shout if there's anything you'd like a hand with.
  11. This is a really neat project! Is it possible to retroactively claim a few games that I beat earlier this year? The Last Starfighter: Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade (Taito) Laser Invasion - Beat March 01 2023 Kings of the Beach - Beat February 13 2023 Legend of Kage - Beat March 14 2023 L'Empereur - Beat March 27 2023 (Done on an Everdrive because my cart doesn't reliably hold a save file) I'll stop there. Sorry for intruding as the new guy.
