Usually yeah. I was trying to be reasonable though and get an opinion from other people who deal with graded/sealed games and know the etiquette with stuff like this. Like whether or not a seller should point out flaws like this even though it's graded. His listing only had 1 picture of just the front. Not the back or the spine where the damage is. Kind of convenient.

Would hate to do a claim if this is something that really isn't the sellers fault though.

I’m sure he didn’t list the pictures of damage on purpose.

  2. Doesn’t eBay always side with the buyer? Open a claim and get that refund!

I remember I sold a prototype for nes on eBay that wouldn’t go in a normal nes. Listed in the description the buyer would need a top loader with the top taken off to use(eprom stuck out to far) the buyer shoved in nes toaster and said it wouldn’t work... im positive they rented that prototype and dumped it. I had no chance hadda give all the money back

to the tune of 300k ya?

It’ll go up way higher they have like a live online auction block. I mean yeah I want that thing but it just shows how important the development of these games are!

everyone loves sealed cardboard that was sold at retail. I love stuff that was ordered to trashed/ returned to the company!same note let’s chat about them but not drive the price up more:p

ok, well, good luck with that. I was trying to be encouraging but your flat statement without detailing the justification doesn’t help. I think it would be silly if there’s not much content. Most forums are happy to create a new section, when warranted by a sufficient mass of posts on such topic. So, fluff up the discussion generate more interest and make your case, I’m sure Gloves et al would be happy to create it if it would be somewhat lively. Meanwhile, it fits easily under collecting category, and we have tags and clubs here.

Dude Nintendoage had a great section of prototype stuff how is something that is niche but still very important. I have zero time interest in fluffing up this site so that people can realize what they are neglecting?

i asked gloves when this first started about this and the thing is most prototype collectors don’t wanna be bothered about them so on average we are private.

oh don’t forget all the hype around a prototype right now...

I would be interested to see/read about prototypes, but I can in no way afford anything that pricey right now.  I am looking to buy games I played and enjoyed, or experience ones I wanted to as a kid.  If that becomes "finished" for me then I could dabble in the prototype scene eventually.  The more I see of them, the more interesting they seem.......why a long cart for n64 or gameboy?  Was that just something they did?  I think it would be cool to have something early on for a game, not something close to retail.  But therein, i am sure they are way higher the earlier they are......maybe I am wrong, but I wouldn't mind learning while I collect other stuff 🙂

Actually nes and snes would have long boards also compared to the retail releases. Snes they would just chop up the top so it’d fit. Nes well most nes games are small in those big carts.

also earlier is always the best stuff and top of the price range

The last post I remember from him on NintendoAge was something like "Sticker seals sell for what?" then he put a bunch up at ridiculous BINs on Ebay, lol.

He wheels and deals pinball machines on Pinside pretty regularly too.

You know the funny thing about that is dream set so many price ranges with his sales and with the amount of stuff he collected to be late to this hype and then clean up hahah.

Back in the Nintendo age days there was no one better to deal with then DreamTR when it came to buying prototypes.

Now that Nintendo age is dead does anyone know what happened to him?

i have a itch to buy a prototype and I’d love to buy one from him or another well know legitimate prototype person.

Whats the market for prototypes these days? Back in the day around 7 years ago you could grab a decent snes prototype for like $125-$350ish. ( not including unreleased or rare games of course)

You can show off or brag about what prototypes you have or have had!

is a great place for prototypes! I tried to get stuff started here but no one cares lol. They said no one posts about prototypes.... it’s just not as widely collected and honestly I don’t think many feel comfortable buying.

I should have added what I’ve done is purchased the VGA acrylic cases for the sealed cardboard games I have now to avoid and drop damage.

as far as the protos ..... I wouldn’t want to grade them. They are far more unique and special than a sealed game.

I have a couple of those cases since the drop it has moved into one of those nice cushy cases.

This 100% in the interest of full disclosure I’m out of the grading business. Maybe 5 years ago I got a lot of games graded with the VGA and they still sit on my shelf 🙂 Therefore, I haven’t sent anything to WATA. I don’t see the reason to grade anything unless you plan to sell in the near term. I hope WATA flourishes and succeeds but the growing pains they are experiencing are unprecedented. How many people work there? 3 maybe..... far too much work for the amount of stuff I see posted and they delayed turn around times. The only reason people are accepting of the delay in time is because the “potential” of the money they can make selling it.

I agree with wata being driven by the thought of cashing out I mean check eBay out craziness every week now! I will say I’m not a sealed collector( have like ten sealed) I like grading to keep them in the current state. I recently set up a display with my sealed games and dropped my Pokémon red and I’m sure it took a few points off the grade. Not happy at all

I personally don’t see the difference between wata and vga on grading prototypes both completely miss what makes them more unique then sealed retail releases

Well, at first I preferred WATA over VGA because they seemed to be more passionate about game collecting and preservation.  They still are, but whether it's growing pains or the fact that money changes people, I'm more cautious.

I hope I'm wrong and what you're saying stays correct, but sometimes demand drives poor decision making.  This is why "to much growth" can kill a business. My pile of stuff to get graded is getting bigger and bigger and right now, I'm leaning toward sending the sealed stuff to VGA, but I'm still waiting to see if WATA is just working through growing pains.

Wata is for selling to the new crowd, vga is for more strict grading. Crossover tend to show anything over vga 90 is gonna be probably be a 9.8 a++

There is far too much money behind them now to fail for proto mistakes or grading errors. What would hurt them if they were found grading games that were resealed but chances of that are slim to none.

I’d think if they had the same problems of vga it could lead to a downfall. So if someone sent a game in and it got grade vastly different then maybe.

So does this deter anyone wanting to send more to them? Ive also heard of errors in them grading the early releases of NES games. Do yall think this kind of thing could lead to their demise?

Not a chance with all the heritage hype from the new buyers. The new crowd literally has no interest in vga besides crossing over.

for me there prototype service is a complete joke they don’t do it right at all. They are more focused on the type of board and if the cart is there instead of the data which makes or breaks a prototype in value. Also the matrix is not up and I don’t think sending a rom to every current owner is a good idea either unless you have it graded then sell otherwise if you are buying wata dumped game there’s no assurance that it’s hasn’t been dumped and released

There is still at least one place you can order Korg online for close to retail that hadn't sold out last I checked. I'm trying to find the link again. I will edit and post for those that are interested.

    Here you go!

    https://academy.valed.jp/music/gadget/item/?code=ac_mus001s

So can we just order that or do we need to do it certain way thru a proxy?
