So, you can get a lot of extra points burning through lives.  I would have got an even higher score, but it maxes out at 99,990.

I figured that had to be the only strategy to increase your score. I doubt I'll go to the trouble; I was mostly intent on finishing the game while collecting as many coins and killing as many enemies as I could.

  2. Hey, I'm so sorry guys, but I have been out of it all week with various ailments, and I just realized I made a mistake. Somehow I missed the "three lives" criterion; I had casually interpreted the update to the rules as not looping lives on the last level or something (since in most games/challenges you can use whatever lives you acquire legitimately along the way). And so, I must downgrade my score, because I definitely used more than three lives previously. I'm trying to find some more time to play today, but we'll see how it goes, because kid. This game just takes a lot of time to learn, and a lot of time I do not have. We have until midnight EST, yeah?

  3. @Lambda Since I discovered this amazing thread the other day, I've been trying to crack the code too, without much success. The only thing I can add so far is that on page 8, there's an extra "Down" that you don't have listed. So if we aren't missing anything else the code should be:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right

I've been toying with the notion that the capitalized Right on page 8 should also be included, as maybe the font color was mistakenly not changed, but you make a good point about why Start probably isn't included. It just seems like a remote possibility if nothing else works.

I've also been trying to input the code on controller 2, but I have no idea if the game even looks for inputs from controller 2. None of the likely screens to try it (copyright, title, intro, stage start, life display, pause, continue) seem to be working though. Either we're missing something very basic here, or this code must be entered in an unorthodox manner, or perhaps the code is just broken. I'll keep thinking though.

  4. Interesting setup. I haven't seen that wireless controller before. But I do think the NES Classic controller isn't as good as an original controller, mainly because it sometimes causes accidental diagonal presses due to a shallow D-pad. Dropping button presses on the A button is a new one to me, but I haven't used mine excessively.

I usually use an 8Bitdo Bluetooth controller with a Retro Receiver, which sometimes gets interference, but in this case I was trying out my AVS Wireless controller--which also sometimes drops the connection, maybe because something is getting in between it and the receiver. It works flawlessly if I'm sitting within a few feet of it though, which seems weird because all the reviews say it shouldn't have any problem. It also might be getting some radio interference from another device or network but I've never been able to nail it down.
