    No idea I always thought the SNES was the same as the NES. Maybe it was something that was a habit from playing NES then when I got my SNES I just kept doing it.

    It’s possible from powering off without holding reset but the odds are low in my experience. If I had to guess I’d say the battery is probably starting to go bad. The reset button on my Super Nintendo hasn’t worked in a few years and it hasn’t ever deleted game saves.
