Yeah, I remember being pretty irritated with that eventuality back when I started playing this one.  It seemed really unfair.  Overcoming it is def. partially in choosing your routes, but I got to a point this week where I felt like I had gained a facility for navigating pretty much any path fluidly and I guess that's just practice, practice, practice.

I used to think level 4 was tough but once you figure out what to do and what not to do it becomes the 2nd easiest level after level 1.  Level 3 is tough because it requires at least some memorization and failing that, quick reflexes w/precision to avoid Wile E.  Level 2 is probably close in difficulty on one side or the other to level 3 and one of the worst because of the Wile E. on a pogo-stick section.  It's only two things at once: watching Wile E. and watching your path wile hitting the bird seed, but its easy to get too into the latter, loose attention on Wile E. for a split second and then moving right into where he's about to jump.  And of course, he can jump over the sand which is a significant advantage to him.

I was thinking we probably haven't played many or any games like this here before since this is a Chase.  The only thing that comes to mind is Chase H.Q. in last years tournament, but that was only  4 of us and we played the roll of the Chaser rather than the chasee.  Lots of enemy manipulation either way...

Anyway, I'm glad someone besides myself enjoys this unique game!

Oh yeah that path part was what always got me after that it wasnt too bad but despite many tries and small improvements I just couldnt get enough consistency to really make a great run.  I maybe just should have said F the bird seed on level 2 🤷🏻

Wil E. and his sprite are my favorite parts, he looks juuust off enough that it's a little bit creepy but mostly just funny.  Like there's long stretches where he's just creepin on you from behind like a dead-eyed canine zombie

Never understood why its considered a 'bad game' other than gamers' standards for sports games are generallly brutal in general.

Fine by me, I never found a manual but I've had this game for some time got the cart and box separately for $3 each.  And it being a sports game probably helped with that.  I find it to be a unique blend of concepts, sports and rpg-style decison making, I'm sure it's been done elsewhere, but this has still gotta be among the earliest examples.  I'm surprised anyone's even out there trashing it lol i understand trashing a big title like Blades of Steel for being weak but idk

  3. I'm actually digging this one, good 1-life challenge, Wil E. does some pretty funny shit so far as I've seen.  The snake shaped paths are very looney tunes.  I like it when games give a good attempt to deliver on the theme, instead of just taking a character and making it a platformer or whatever.  Might follow this attempt up tomorrow, level 3 seems easier than level 2?

I hope that some more scores are posted. I wonder if the changes in ruleset earlier in the week kept people from participating.

Tough to say, might be the beginning of summer factor too.  Not the most popular week... but still not exactly easy to place top 3.  I thought it was a decent game and didn't find it super hard myself.  But with a busy week and just starting 6 hours before the deadline today, I'm just going with what I got posted.  It's just not a game that's easy to spend all day grinding, even though it would probably work.

Above all I'm quite fond of how well-programmed the ladders are.

Nicely done man!! Figured you show up and clear it. Really sad I didnt get a few more shots at this. @docile tapewormproblems with a toddler and a baby. Im sure she (baby) will start sleeping at night sometime this summer and I will get somewhat back to form thereafter, but time is tough to come by now. And thats fine overall, but this was a tough one to miss out on. I need to look at the schedule and start prioritizing where I can play a game for 3-4 weeks. Ill keep throwing participations up though and ill keep popping in to heckle and bitch

Dude this week was crazy it put me in peril and shook me, I was gunning for the TMNT2 win, it was a dream week until it was a nightmare.  And it's compounded onto my previously existing shell shock of not being able to beat Krang in the 2013 summer tournament.

Comparing 1st to 4th is double/half, 20 points to 10 now, it feels more severe but also appropriate.  I got the 4th place blues.  With how the scoring system is now you could still make something happen with limited playtime, if you focus on a few and get some wins.  Even 2nds are pretty good, they're worth 10+ more than 6th place downward

Totally agree.  I got so sick of killing mousers that my time spent point-scumming was getting shorter and shorter with every attempt as I would say "fuck it!" earlier and earlier.  I also think it takes more skill to kill Baxter asap without wasting time on any mousers, so a low score 1-life contest would be more skill-based, I think.

I sort of agree that low score 1 life is the way because you avoid this, and also it adds a bit of strategy into lots of the mob fights, wherein you have to use projectiles etc to kill enemies for 0 and it's quite hard to get all that perfect.  But it's still not hard to do most of them, and IMO it's fun because using the projectiles is sheer fun

I was looking at Gamefaqs and a couple of the guides say that he's very easy or even the easiest boss in the game. I wonder which samurai they were fighting. I like that he doesn't have much health compared to other bosses but the head always fucks me up.

There's no time limit so maybe it is  a good plan to just keep dodging the head and only attack when it's attached. It'd take forever though, especially if the head comes off quick.

I think I usually just kinda keep fighting through the head moving, and watch the head mostly, just trying to get as many kicks in as possible.  Maybe with enough health you could smash him with your special a couple times before the head comes off again, even if you take a bit of damage for it.  Cant believe this is what sunk me

I had a similar thing happen last night when I was on the Samurai.  I didn't die on my way to the pizza but it threw off my rhythm with the floating head and I just got stuck in a bad rhythm with the thing until death...  I pretty much figured out how to dance with Krang, but this last run it seemed like I got hit just a few times and that still took me down to 3 life bars...  Only beat Shredder on the first try once this week and it was the 1-death run where I died on Krang...

I was absolutely framing it as a dance with Krang too in my head, lol.  It's definitely tightly designed that it allows you to do that.  He's hard on one life, but I consider it a pretty fair fight since normally it's designed for you to have spare lives.

Damn, I could have beat your score at least.

    The samurai really sucks.

For sure, I just overlooked him too much during practice, I'd beaten him a few times but when it came to it I just couldn't pull.  Real bummer.  I wasnt in the TMNT mood yesterday so i put the whole ending on today.  Aargh

I got mixed up, Shredder is the one you can trap in the corner. The Krang fight is a lot more tedious.

Damn.  I beat Krang without dying a few times (not on a run) but I still haven't got em both in one life.  Of course in the 2013 contest I couldnt even ever beat Krang.  He's not too bad... I've crafted a strategy where I can get pretty good damage in for a low-medium amount of risk.  It's easy to get flustered and then greedy though, since I did find a way to land lots of consecutive hits but it's not as likely he'll follow the right sequence to enable this.

Does before laser arms matter? Im updating to just after them, but have fewer points. I assume progress score is just based on how many levels you beat.

I had to pause at the beginning of that level and assumed I just came back cold. Seeing you also didnt reach the boss, wondering if foot clan difficulty ramps up there? Either way, what freakng fun this game is.

Finally, for those conspiracy theorists (morbis) thinking hey, i thought he had to work tonight? I did. The case I had set for hearing tomorrow and have been sweating too long was dismissed. Even with spare time, could really only get one run. Hour a game, not much room for error

No, i was too specific, maybe being at the boss would be farther? but otherwise same level.

At any rate I have a better pic already. And even that ill improve on soon.  I played with all continues a bit tonight, so I could practice Shredder and Krang.

I can't say I'm a fan of the snowmen that take a lot of hits and have homing missiles.

And what's with there being almost no health drops? I keep hoping there's going to be a pizza and nope.

My bad, I meant the sewer level, the snow level is a bit tricky but it becomes one of the easier ones in the long run.

For the snowmen I usually just try to push one or both of them onto the side, you can spam them with just the basic attack if theyre stuck this way.  Usually i jump kick them into the side. If need be you can manage the missiles by destroying them.

But my advice also rests a bit on the fact that I don't mind taking dmg at this part.  The boss is pretty easy if you stay on one horizontal line and just keep trying to jumpkick his shins so he drops the iceball, which then also won't damage you as you're resetting your position.

The pizza definitely gets more generous in the late game... I wonder if it's because that's where the game starts to variate more from the arcade version?  It makes the late game run more smooth and the game more fair.
