  1. Good games everybody! I just couldnt get the drive for Golf high enough. Needing a -16 score (-15 before @Dr. Morbis's update) was a tall order for sure, I'm glad you came in with that makes me feel better lol
  2. I think I'm the one affected, if I'm reading it all correctly, and I don't care. If you make it then go for it. I am no good in shooters anyway, I really have no chance, and I can't even get close to you and NESfiend this late. Its a wide gap. I didnt play at all today except completing a Tennis match.
  3. Eh... my opinion is that the script functions like a yard reader in real golf, which in games is analogous to having the grid showing where you land, like most golf games. In addition, it can read wind. The issue is that everyone else on every shot has to read their lie but you dont with a script. This is the most challenging part is making the right calls and then pairing it with a shot you think will work. Sure you still have to make the shot but even if that goes badly you can just enter your next reading into the script so the natural "bad domino effect" of the game is lost. If you still pull out a -24 then thats commendable. But really, it makes me kinda just not want to play.
  4. Shooter in the finals? Thats bad news for me, if I even make it. Anyway I've got a Soccer win now, just 1-0.
  5. Another update! Got a -9 including two birdies on last two holes. Don't think any eagles this time.
  6. Well I finally shot under par, it aint much but im adding it to my front page post. Let a few birdie putts slip by, including one that went off the green and resulted in a bogey. Anyway I'm on hole 7 of a new run right now and I eagled 5 and just birdied 6 (i find hole 6 kinda tough to birdie usually).
  7. I think the name Albatross is superior because the bird itself was a symbol of incredible luck by sailors in the old world since they were thought to be able to guide ships. In Samuel Taylor's Coolidge's poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner an albatross appears while the mariner is stranded in a dire situation, and he ends up murdering it. It's always stuck out to me as a strong symbol. In golf translation it's an incredibly lucky thing to get. If you bomb a round after getting an albatross, you've essentially killed it. Double Eagle just makes no sense to me cause it's -3 not -2*2
  8. Yeah figured as much sometimes games will have the odd par 4 put in that you can hole (or putt for eagle) like the hole 10 dogleg on the first course in mario golf 64 where you can put it over the trees. But this isn't far off from real life either, holing a par 4 is no small feat. In my opinion this is why par 4's are what make golf and VG golf hard to put up a good score, because theyre only reliably good for birdies, which still isnt a guarantee; all eagles are essentially flukes. On the other hand, its easier to save par from a bad tee shot on a par 4 (say you go into water, take a drop put in on the green then sink it for par. On a par 3, you now have to sink it from your drop spot; on a Par 5 you can still squeak a lucky birdie or a reliable par but youve put yourself behind right at the start).
  9. Wow @bertsampson what a great set of scores!!!! This comp is starting to get crazy!!!
  10. Yeah it's possible and an albatross is I think possible. Since a hole in one is basically an eagle it's a matter of luck just about as much as an eagle on a par 4. For a par 5 that's where reliable eagles are possible, get on the green in 2 then sink it. (Not all wind supports this necessarily on all holes. But I've gotten eagles like this on more than just the meadow hole). So then following that logic if you can get it on in 2 on a par 5, then you can sink it in 2. It's a total fluke to sink it versus just landing it. But albatrosses are exceedingly rare in real life too. (Albatrosses as a hole-in-1 on a par 4 is possible in real life too. But generally not possible in video games. I don't think there's any par 4 where you can drive the green in this game? Following this logic backwards, an eagle on a par 4 in this game is only possible sinking it from the fairway).
  11. Yeah you have to make more objective distance calculations based on just sight. The yardage difference from hole to hole ensures the distances don't stay constant even with the same club etc hit to hit. It actually is a pretty gritty golf experience in terms of how it feels similar to playing real golf because your eyes fool you. Other than the need to basically hook the ball intentionally since the aiming is discrete.
  12. Damn nice bar @the_wizard_666! I wanna set a bar too. Haven't got under par yet. Got one hole in one, but too inconsistent to matter. I'm rusty as hell
  13. Yeah they're just emulated and come inside the NES collection, it's a free archive that comes with having Switch membership. Mostly common and first-party titles, the SNES one is similar but stuff gets added. Anyway usually the button mapping isn't ideal so I'm likely gonna just do it as a stopgap, unless I miraculously win a Soccer game while training up. I've used emu w/ keyboard for most games this year but that's not gonna fly with these 2 games
  14. I too have a rules question @guillavoie Are the Switch versions of Tennis and Soccer acceptable?
  15. I'm struggling with both of them too. Haven't scored in Soccer, haven't won yet in Tennis. This shit is friggin' hard Think it's a Golf night.
  16. I gotta say I can't disagree with bert, im mountain time so just a 2-hr difference but if it were 3 am EST Monday having that extra bit on the last to play later at night would be a huge boon
  17. You guys werent joking around about the skill 5 players in Soccer, I havent even managed a goal yet
  18. Its GOLF time - it's TIME TO SHINE!!! Reserved!!!! Update 1: I still haven't got anywhere on Tennis or Soccer. What's sad is I actually got a Soccer goal in the first few minutes of the game, held off until the tense halftime whistle and onward, but then got scored on with 6ish minutes left. Very sad. And in Golf I didn't go great either. (Conclusion: Bea is sadistic.) Update 2: Did better today, followed up my previous -2 with a -4. Including an eagle on hole 5. Sadly I ate a triple on hole 18 update 3: After a few strange rounds including a viable (but ultimately failed) front 9 that had two eagles but also a triple and quadruple bogey, I nailed the -9. Came close to an albatross somewhere in there! Total: 8 (9, 1, -2) Golf: -9 (9 tournament points) Soccer: 1 (1 tournament points) Tennis: -2 (-2 tournament points)
  19. @the_wizard_666 Yeah I gave it a quick go when I was still deciding cause I knew my choice before it came (also since I wouldnt have picked the puzzle). It seemed really fast and busy and just a tough forward slog. Choice was clear for me
  20. Well, for what its worth, no bracket played the Ninja-whatever game.
  21. Thanks man! Good fight! I really thought you were bluffing so I still gave it my "Sunday all". I longed to transcend from challenger to challenge
  22. Thanks I been grindin out, didnt do super great on the whole but it might not be too bad a score. I literally just acheived this like less than 5 minutes ago and it was my best. I didn't come close to beating it really (but got farther than this on lesser runs). This game's a point feast!
  23. Same here, never played either at any length really. I think i booted up Soccer once and it wasnt completely terrible
