  1. Wait are Bearcat Doug and BertSampson for real? Is there that big of a rivalry? I didn’t know anybody took these contests so seriously I love it! Ha. What’s the deal with the tournament anyway?
  2. Whoa I think I misread that and Bert actually won by 200 points! 602,300 vs 602,100...the equivalent of two regular (not ladder glitch) barrel jumps. Well done guys that’s as close as it gets.
  3. Wow! @bertsampson with an insane late score of 601,300!! But @Bearcat-Doug still in the lead by a mere 800 points with 602,100!! I love these contests!! One last try for a 550+...
  4. You guys are killing it. I want to try to help out for at least 1-2 more. Any suggestions? I tend to be better at shooter/platform. RPG and flight simulation would not be my strengths. I am not against playing a bad sports game. Looking at the remaining games I was thinking 8 eyes, Kung fu heroes, mutant virus or thrillas surfari. The only one I’ve played before is Kung fu heroes. It was for about 20 minutes and it seems hard.
  5. Post showing that 5 goals can be scored in 1 minute. Does this theoretically mean 50 goals could be scored? Goal 1 at 4:54 Goal 2 at 4:44 Goal 3 at 4:32 Goal 4 at 4:21 Goal 5 at 4:00 My best time for 5 goals was 4:08
  6. Last couple thoughts before never thinking of this game ever again. This is long and most likely will be useful to no one. I recommend choosing Argentina and keeping their lineup unmodified at the 4-3-3 formation. Choose a team with a weaker goalie for the computer. The coin toss can be won every single time. You have to hit A twice like a slow double tap. If you hit it too fast you will lose. Time it correctly to start with the ball every game. The computer then chooses the direction they want to go in the first half which is always downfield. This is perfect as we’ll be starting the game with the ball going upfield. You can score at the 4:54/4:53 mark every time. Dribble it past the two defenders and shoot slightly above the semi circle where the field is changing colour from dark green to light green. If you shoot it in this sweet spot the goalie will miss every time. As I mentioned before, finding this sweet spot is the key to getting high scores. After your 1st goal the computer will pass it in at half. Argentina’s midfield 2 has near perfect stats for speed, kicking power and tackling power. This player is key for tackling the ball off the original pass and scoring a goal in 10-11 seconds. If timed correctly you can greatly increase your chances of making this steal. Don’t control the player at all; your midfield 2 will automatically go for the ball so all you have to do is press and hold A at the right time (no d pad direction just A). This is the fastest way to score so go for this strategy every time. If executed well you’ll come up with this steal (and goal) every 2nd or 3rd time. Missing the slide tackle causes the computer to kick the ball in a variety of ways. Best case scenario is when the computer player does an ‘A kick’ directly to your defender 1 or midfield 1. You can dribble it right to the goal avoiding the defenders and score in 12-13 seconds. Second best scenario is when the computer player does a ‘B kick’ which pops the ball into the air. It often goes to defender 4 in the corner. Time it to kick the ball when it’s in the air (press and hold A) along the sidelines. If done correctly it will kick it to your forward 3 every time where they can skillfully dribble in around the defenders to score. This method takes 15 seconds. Other times the ‘B kick’ will go to defender 2 near your goalie. There are two options here. The faster but riskier one is to kick the ball (A) up the field. Your forward will get it 50% of the time for an easy goal in 13 seconds. The other 50% of the time the computer will steal it and waste a lot of time. This is worst case scenario. I recommend just dribbling the length of the field with your slower defender. This is the slowest method to score and may take 20 seconds. So adding this all up you should be able to score at least 3 goals per minute even with the slower 20 second method. A combination of these will allow you to score 4 goals per minute and if you’re very lucky and execution is perfect you can score 5 goal per minute. I will post a pic after to not further muddy up this already ridiculous post. When the opposing goalie has the ball there are a few outcomes. The goalie will try to drop kick the ball into play. If timed correctly you can head the ball directly into the net for a super quick goal. If it goes over the crossbars try again for the quick header goal when the goalie kicks it. If it bounces off the crossbars be ready to kick it back into the net. Unfortunately, missing the header is more likely. Usually it will go to your forward 2 where you will try to score it back into the net. This works a good amount of the time with proper timing because Argentina’s forward 2 has excellent kicking power. When the goalie kicks the ball to the sides I find it best to knock the ball out of bounds. If done in the right spot you can steal the throw in every time and dribble in for a goal. If you are ever awarded a free kick, tap the B button slightly to pass it to yourself and dribble in for the goal. Ok everyone got all that? That’s enough.
  7. I’ve just about completely broken this game. Played a game this morning and won 22-0. Updated score on page 2.
  8. I was finding it much harder to score on the bottom goal at first. Now I’ve found the sweet spot on both sides (right above the semicircle) and it’s been easier. Still scoring more upfield though.
  9. Am I supposed to post score updates? 14-0 last time I played!
  10. In my experience a red card is only called if a player has a yellow card and gets another. It becomes red and he’s out of the game. Doesn’t happen much at all and the fouls seem random. As for penalty kicks...just try to win so you don’t get in that predicament. I tried 2-3 times on penalty kicks and got wrecked.
  11. Something strange has happened in that I’m actually enjoying this game and getting really good at it. It’s not nearly as broken as it seems at first. I never would have considered playing this if it wasn’t for the contests but I now see why it was chosen. Best soccer game released in North America? Ok maybe that’s not saying much. Some tips to succeed: - Choose automatic for goalie in the options menu. Much easier to control than manual and generally does a good job blocking shots. If there is a deflection off your goalie press the A button repeatedly until you recover the ball. - Choose Control scheme 2 with the diagonal. I’m sure this is personal preference but it’s nice to have the player you’re controlling go in the direction you want as opposed to just diagonally up the field by pressing up. Choose control 2 and you won’t lose 8-0 in the first half. - Choose a team for yourself with a good goaltender and choose a team for the computer with a bad goaltender. They are all listed in the manual. Italy has the best goalie in the league. Pick the computer to play as Mexico, USA, Japan or Canada. They tend to miss more shots on goal. - Pretty much the only time I use the B button is when my goalie is clearing the ball. Walk as far as you can forward in your crease and then hold B and the direction you’re kicking it. If you hold it long enough you’ll kick the ball past half. If you time it correctly your player can head the ball off the kick. Just hit A when the ball is about to land but still in the air. -There are several ways to score. (A)You can hold the B button to kick the ball high in the air. This zooms the screen out and allows you time to position your player to head the ball or bicycle kick it. If you’re close enough to the net you can score. It’s all about positioning and where you’re shooting from. (B) You can score by doing a lobshot by holding B. If you’re coming diagonally at about a 45 degree angle you can lob the ball into the net. It’s tricky and seems to work better by putting some English on it (by using the D pad after the shot has been taken). (C) You can head the ball into the net directly from as the opposing goalie kicks it into play. Usually it’ll go over the net or hit the crossbar but if timed right you can score. (D) The most reliable way by far to score is to dribble the ball all the way up the field while avoiding the defenders and shoot it fro pretty straight on around the top of the semi circle. It will likely bounce off and if you’re other player is in the right spot you can kick it back in off the deflection. If you’re in the absolute sweet spot it’ll go right past the goalie for an easy one. I would say this is the key to getting a high score. Find the sweet spot.
  12. Damn there is definitely a learning curve to this one. I lost 8-0 in the first half of my first game and I couldn’t get the ball anywhere near the net. I recommend not passing at all and just using the A button to kick it up the field. Slide tackling is very inconsistent. 25 (26-1)
  13. My top 4 Hyper Duel- 400 USD from eBay 2018. Top tier Saturn Shoot-em-ups are my thing so worth it to me. Little Samson- 375 USD from eBay 2010. I slightly overpaid but it’s a very nice copy. 14. Just stay at the very bottom directly under the point of the first volcano to not get hit. You can do it!
  15. Well, he has not figured out how to press the buttons yet. Welcome our newest hall of shame member Max!
  16. Nice one! I should see if my one month old can put up a score higher than 0.
  17. I got through two loops yesterday, pic updated.
  18. Nah not modded, standard RF. I was using an original nes before with A/V but found the picture quality about the same on this tv. Top loader just for convenience. Thanks Jimbo! A find on the side of the road a few years ago. 2 of the 4 video jacks are busted but the other 2 have served me well!
  19. Don’t give up when you die! I surprised myself with a level 4 and 5 recovery on the second loop. 6 (?) loops down. 3.58 million
  20. Yes it definitely increases after the first loop. Not sure beyond that. Second loop took me out.
  21. How many loops does this go and what is the maxed out score? I’m a bit more accustomed to the PC Engine and arcade version. Gonna give it a whirl!
  22. I didn’t want to give too much away because clearly Bearcat Doug is the best at this game. But I figured out after a few hours of playing this game that certain attacks on certain enemies award significant points. Of course you want to use your regular weapon attack on most foot soldiers for 600 points instead of 400 with the throw attack or jump kick or 200 points with the special attack. However, there are probably 5 or 6 enemies throughout the game you want to use your throw attack on to finish them off. With this you get 1000 points instead of the usual 600. These enemies are- (A) the things that electrocute you in level 2. Try to pick off as many as you can as the screen scrolls by using the throw move. (B) the ray gun shooting mechanical 4 legged creatures in the technodrome (C) the 4 mechanical insects that fly out of the screen in the technodrome (twice) (D) The mousers in level 5 and 7 (E) the ball like enemies that fire shots at you in stage 8 as the light blue foot soldiers attack you. Throw attack the balls for lots of points.
  23. 1,068,700 I was able to max out the score and defeat super shredder with 2 lives remaining! Unfortunately I was too excited by the victory and missed the second picture by a few seconds.
