  1. Give me a break man. Tons of white people struggle to pay for college and are crippled by massive debt literally for the rest of their life.
  2. Diversity is a great thing if everyone is qualified. You know people don't have the same mindset just because they're a certain color right? There are many kinds of diversity too. It's not just race. Everything. It depends what an employer is looking for and what is needed for the job. If you're a car salesman, a bright personality is probably far more valuable than a college degree. Exactly. Wtf are you smoking @CodysGameRoom College attendance rates are much more complicated than simply oh whites go to college more than minorities. Ever think part of this is due to how expensive college is and not because of race? What about culture? Many Hispanics don't go to college because they need to take care of their family and have to immediately start working right after high school. Tons of scholarships are aimed only for minorities. It's actually very difficult for a white person, especially a white male to even find a scholarship they can apply for. Actually you don't understand affirmative action. No one is denying white people have it easier. What people are arguing is the fairness of affirmative action and how it should change.
  3. Because the employer can't discriminate because they can't see the person? It's not just Republicans. What did Obama and his administration do to address gun violence when he was in office and mass shootings happened? You can't just blame one party if neither party has made many improvements over the years. Affirmative action is bullsh!t the way it's set up now. What it should be is everyone is given the same fair opportunities when applying to jobs or colleges or whatever. They should be graded the same so to speak. No special privileges. You earn your way in. You earn your job. The most qualified gets the job. The best prospect gets accepted to school. See @Silent Hills post. Your hypothetical scenario is comparing apples to oranges. For Harvard, when two highly qualified people submit an application, but one is more qualified, they should get it plain and simple. Race should not go into the decision making. Thank you! Someone finally gets it.
  4. I actually agree with the Rooney rule because it does what affirmative action should do. Give minorities the same CHANCE, but not hand them a job. They still need to earn it and prove they're the best. There are tons and tons of very qualified minority coaches. After all, most NFL players are minorities and are damn good players, so naturally they'd know what they're talking about when they're a coach. Patrick Mahomes will be an incredible coach one day.
  5. Not what I said. Everyone should be allowed to apply to any job fairly and given the same treatment throughout the hiring process. I STRONGLY believe the most qualified person for the job should be hired. End of story. You want a possible solution to affirmative action? When resumes are submitted, take off the names and ages, gender, etc. Anything that could be cause for bias. Then have the employer go through all the resumes and pick solely based on their job skill sets. If you're having a really tough time between a few candidates, this is when an in person interview should happen. I realize most interviews happen in person. I think the resume should be the first step and if the interviewee doesn't get the job, there should be an explanation and if there is a pattern of turning away a certain group, this should be investigated. If you really want to get creative with an in person interview do it like a blind date where you never see the person, and their voice is disguised until the end after you've made your decision. That'd probably get rid of a lot of bias and really hone in on actually hiring the most qualified candidates.
  6. These types of stories always amuse me. They assumed there must be some systemic imbalance thus hiring a male to make themselves more diverse and check a box. Maybe the real reason libraries have far more women working at them is simply because more women apply and have that as their career path. Maybe it's not a sexist thing at all. A lot of things can really be as simple as this, not many people of X applying for whatever position. Society likes to make a big deal about everything though. Everything is racist, sexist, agist, bigotry, genderist, etc.
  7. That's f*cked up plain and simple. This is exactly what I'm getting at. Turning away someone OR hiring someone just because of their skin color is messed up and should not be tolerated.
  8. That happened to one of my friends for college. She and her best friend are both white, both did all the same stuff in high school, and both had almost identical SAT scores and GPAs. Girl A had better scores than girl B. Both applied to the same college at the same time. Girl A applied to a nursing program. Girl B applied to an engineering program. Girl A got accepted but for a semester later, the spring semester. Girl B got accepted for the fall semester. This is when I learned quotas in colleges are 100% real. They accepted girl B immediately because they wanted to check a diversity box for having women in engineering. Don't they take steps every time? And why do you have to only take steps after a shooting? It should be a thing 24/7. I agree we need a multi faceted approach. A huge culture shift is also needed. One where we actually as a community look out for one another, make sure each other are okay, and listen. People always say more mental health resources but never say what that means. Not everyone will go and seek out professional help either, so how can people help? By simply talking. Just talk to people and listen to them. Getting rid of assault rifles AND other kinds of aid like you mentioned are what's needed. It can't just be one. That'll never fully solve the problem. Banning all guns will never happen either because of the Constitution, but there's no reason any American civilian should have an assault rifle military grade weapon. Don't give me that crap about "oh it's for hunting". Plenty of other guns can kill game. See my post above of a real world quota system. As others have pointed out already, it does happen and is a real thing. Not just some made up crap. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Affirmative action is complete bullsh!t. There have to be other ways to determine who is the better candidate if two candidates are truly equal than having it all come down to race. Why not look at merit, someone's character, references, a person's social skills, anything other than gender, race, religion, age, or whatever other category you can think of. Pick some other thing to be the deciding factor, something that actually shows someone is the better candidate for whatever the job is. Waitress, well people skills are pretty important. Banking? Maybe attention to detail is more important.
  9. What do you think should be done after a shooting? The doctor scenario was just an example and it doesn't have to be a minority. It could be a dumb white doctor who was hired because he knew someone. Point is a less qualified person got the job because of whatever reason and it resulted in a negative outcome.
  10. What's wrong with empathizing with victims during a tragedy? If you can't donate or volunteer or help otherwise, you should just be silent and say nothing? My point is that diversity doesn't only mean different races or different genders. Diversity can mean all sorts of things but is often only used to mean different races or genders. Let me ask you this, you've been in a car accident, your kid has been taken to the nearest hospital, and they're being operated on by a doctor who was last in his class and only hired to check a diversity box. Your kid dies. Should this type of hiring practice continue in the future because a diverse workforce is more important than hiring the best? The education thing was an example so as to not piss off people with an actual controversial example. The right does it too, like with guns. Oh man if you don't support gun rights, you don't support the constitution which means you don't support America. Generalizing that of course but yeah, this happens on both sides.
  11. The riots were actually most likely a bunch of criminals trying to take advantage of the situation. Destroy and loot under the guise of a protestor when in fact they didn't believe anything of the BLM movement. There is no double standard for shootings. Every single one of them is terrible and are covered for a while. No one shrugs when people die from a shooting. The left is just as bad as the right. Both have their brand and define the other side. You're racist, you support all. You love guns, you ban guns. Build the wall, give them citizenship. I'm religious, what's religion? Diversity comes in many forms. Its ignorant when people only refer to different races or genders as being diverse. You can have different levels of education, age, gender, race, job experience, sexual orientation, religion, hobbies, favorite food, really anything. You should NEVER hire someone solely because of one characteristic. You should always hire the best candidate. Don't just check a box. Oh I'll hire the person who didn't graduate high school. Now I can check a box and say we're diverse because we have everyone with every level of education. Quotas are usually illegal but many places do it and get around it. I'd argue both the left and right use intimidation for a control agenda. The left just does it in a different way. They make you feel like sh!t if you are pro life, religious, or now support the police. I believe it is possible to have viewpoints from both sides. You CAN support the police AND think what the police did to George Floyd was wrong AND understand why people are protesting the police AND not want the police defunded. But both sides want you to think this isn't possible. "Us vs them. Pick a side. Get on the right side of history or you're a giant piece of sh!t"
  12. Someone please call an ambulance for my elephant brethren too https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jul/01/more-than-350-elephants-dead-in-mysterious-mass-die-off-botswana-aoe
  13. I am so sorry Mr Gloves. How ever may I repay you? Shall I wash your hands? Sorry, something something Nike New Balance Oasics Mizuno Saucony something something shoes feet walk run exercise something something non political opinion something something 4th of July Murrica something something sucks to be Canada eh
  14. Except they're actually completely different and it does matter. Could care less = you care a little and therefore could still care even less. Couldn't care less = you don't care at all and therefore cannot care any less.
  15. New balance is much better quality than sh!tty Nike. Remember when Zion broke his shoe? That was a Nike shoe. The only shoe I've ever had a problem with is Nike.
  16. You should look up what Russia does regarding wars and weapons. You'll have a good read.
  17. Almost everything you buy is not made entirely in America. It's virtually impossible for every part and every resource of a product to only be made in the U.S. Most people buy whatever is cheapest, so until U.S products can compete price wise with stuff made in China, people will keep buying products made in China.
  18. Serious question, who wins the 2020 presidential election and why?
  19. Get him then. Don't hold back. Don't let him and the @Tulpas drown out the good discussions here.
  20. I'm simply saying what @OptOut wanted to say. I will refrain my language in the future.
  21. Wow someone seriously just got mad at me for wearing a mask wtf. This is what's wrong with everyone right now.
  22. Well said. @CodysGameRoom has been an ass throughout most of this. I too don't talk about my political beliefs. All it leads to is drama, shouting, arguing, etc. People just can't have a sane political discussion. I'll post a valid point and immediately be called racist or whatever because it doesn't align with someone else's opinion.
