  1. Rules amended to make it a more suitable challenge for a normal week round.
  2. Sounds like this rule set would be more suited for tournament play. I went for it based on the skill level I saw on Dr. Mario World Championship top 8 streams and videos. I will tune them back down to make it more palatable for a normal round.
  3. You can only start at level 20. When I decided to change from 30 to 26, I edited the level at the wrong places. It is too hot here for me to think properly. So you're playing levels 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25.
  4. Fixed it. I was considering level 30, but settled for level 26 to allow for more runs and less time lost by resetting if one gets a poor field to start.
  5. After we finish this season, I will put all my excel file results into a database so I can consolidate data about our players performance through my tenure as the organizer of the VGS NES Weekly Contest, alongside with @guillavoie It will be fun to remember champions of the recent past and elevate our current champions with their mighty results!

  7. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, welcome to the final week of our 2023 VGS NES WEEKLY CONTEST! A week that will define CHAMPIONS! The puzzle genre and the Geral championship are up for grabs this week! This' a week where our players will have to show that they have true grit to conquer the virus at DR MARIO! Here are the rules: Play on virus level 10. Play on speed medium Play till level 16 or till you game over, whichever happens first Take your picture at the start of level 16 or at the game over screen You have very little time to take your picture at the start level 16. You can pause and prepare to take your picture. If there is at most two pills in the field, the picture will be accepted. Highest score wins Genre: Puzzle The puzzle genre standings have @Glovessitting in 1st with 20 points, @mbd39 and @Dr. Morbis tied in 2nd with 19 points. Only the victory matters for these three valiant players! May the most puzzled one win! The contest ends Sunday, 10/01/23 at 11 PM VGS time. Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid. The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid. No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted. No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed. You must take a picture of your computer monitor. There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers. Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator. Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests. The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed. Good luck everyone and have fun.
  8. Current standings posted. Regarding the tournament, we will discuss if we will postpone it for the start of the year or how we will proceed. All I can state for sure at this point is that the rules there will follow what I have been doing lately. Focusing on shorter runs to allow people with limited time to play and manage to be competitive.
  9. Geral and genre scoreboards updated. @PII is our 2023 VGS NES Weekly Contest Arcade champion. The arcade competition was fiery, with several players reaching the last week with a shoot for the title! @Gloves is still top 1 in the Geral leaderboard, with a 7 points lead over @PII. @Bearcat-Doug comes third with 94 points.
  10. Final standings posted. With this result @PII secures the 2023 VGS NES Weekly Contest Arcade championship with 22 points, over @Gloves and @Bearcat-Doug 17 points. @wongojackdebuts in the VGS NES Weekly Contest with a very solid 3rd place!
  11. Exactly. I am allowing you all to do it. Just don't overdo the point pressing on those fighters.
  12. A 5 fireball limit means a set amount of points. A timer limit forces one to consider how many fireballs they can hit in that time span and still beat the opponent.
  13. I am trusting the honour code here. It is either that or "Your run ends if you hit a fireball or star for points". Allowing some point pressing there can allow the winner to best optimize it.
  14. Added a rule that you have 1 full minute to beat Tao, so some point pressing will be allowed at stages 2, 7 and 12.
  15. Someone may have a cart with it, sadly, so outright banning it would be a problem. I put in a ruleset to try to disallow that glitch. If that makes rev 1.2 players to have a disadvantage for not being able to use the flying kick, then so be it.
  16. 1st PII 137,800 2nd Bearcat-Doug 123,100 3rd Gloves 110,900 4th BlackVega 63,100 5th SuperJimtendo 23,400 6th G-type 21,100
  17. OSU!!! Welcome fighters! It is time to prove your martial art skills and determine who is the most skilled fighter. In order to settle this matter, our fighters will assume the role of Oolong and will have to battle difficult enemies in a classic game that sadly only saw a NES release in Japan, Yie Ar Kung Fu! The rules are as follow: Pick level 2 Play till you die your first time or reach stage 16 (Wang at grey background) If you are playing in revision 1.2, you are not allowed to freeze the opponents with repeated air kicks You must beat Tao and Lang (stages 2, 4, 7, 9, 12 and 14) within one minute time at each time. If you can't beat him within one minute time, your run is over. Pause and take your picture. Pause your game after you respawn if you die or at the start of the fight at stage 16 and take your picture. Highest score wins Genre: Beat em Up @Bearcat-Dougneeds a 5th place finish to secure the Beat em up championship, for he leads the scoreboard with 22 points over @PII's 14. @NESfiendis 3rd place with 13 points and has no shoot at the title unless @Bearcat-Doug doesn't post a score. The contest ends Sunday, 09/24/23 at 11 PM VGS time. 18. Geral and genre scoreboards updated. And that settles @PII as our 2023 VGS NES Weekly Contest Action champion! Congratulations!
  19. Final standings posted. This was one week of fierce competition. Both @Bearcat-Doug and @mbd39 got an astounding 95,970 points and tied for P1. With the tie, each will take 9 points home ((10 +7)/2, ceiled). @PII is our 2023 VGS NES Weekly Contest Action champion!
  20. Welcome aboard. Always nice to have new people join us in! Great score and great info about Spy Hunter!
  21. OK, I changed the rule set to first death after the initial timer expires.
  22. Playing till game over makes this whole ordeal entirely too long to get a run in. I don't like that idea. We can do first death after the timer ends, though.
