Someone mined all of the Heritage Auctions WATA sales and built a visualization tool to search through them 😂

First of all, if you own this website and are a member of this forum, please reveal yourself because this thing is awesome!

You can basically search for any game and it will show you all the past sales at HA with some nice visualizations. Haven't yet fully explored what other features it has.

He has also provided the raw data file on his github so you can pivot it yourself. It goes up to Aug. 31, 2021 (so pretty recent), but not sure how often it will be updated.

The "population report" has inverted values for the X axis. In your screen capture it counts 1x 2.5 but it should be 1x9.8

Take this capture as an example. It clearly says there were sold 8x9.8 but it's being shown on the graph as 8x2.5

Awesome tool, btw

Wow good catch! I kinda wanted to see the 2.5 Pokemon Red though 😅

Very neat tool, though the data is incomplete; it lists the top result for Pokemon Red as $84,000, which is missing the record result of $132k from July 2021: https://comics.ha.com/itm/video-games/pokemon-red-version-wata-94-a-sealed-sandshrew-first-production-gb-nintendo-1998-usa/a/7261-28115.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

This result for $72k also appears to be missing: https://comics.ha.com/itm/video-games/pokemon-red-version-wata-94-a-sealed-sandshrew-first-production-gb-nintendo-1998-usa/a/7242-93055.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

All-in-all I think it's really cool, but probably not accurate enough at this time to really be used for serious price research.

Is it possible that these sales fell through and weren't paid for, and so wouldn't appear on the dataset?

I mean, I have no idea, but it's the first thing that popped to mind.

He had a new post saying it was updated in early July. He doesn’t actually actively scrape the site for data, from the git it looks like he pulls down a csv and then iterates through it with a 200 line python. Good stuff and nice to see someone take action against no pop reports from our favorite grading company.

I'll take a look at this specific case and send a pull request if I find the time. The scraping code is actually pretty simple.

The owners name is in the link. If you click "About" and then the title. He describes how he got started in his article.

Is there any way anyone can send me the raw data? I want to run my own analysis. I have already reached out to the website owner, but my skill set is limited to statistical analysis, and not the web scraping.

The site owner shares the data on their github: https://github.com/marzukia/wata

It's the CSV file "heritage_sales.csv".
