Nintegageo 515 Member ·
Hey, so I have the two combined and working. My game currently saves progress should I get a Game Over but not when I shut down the console to go do things. Is it supposed to save it or are you meant to beat it in 1 go like with Sonic 2? cj_robot 442 Member ·
It should be saving your game even after you turn the console off. I believe Sonic 3 is one of the few Genesis games that uses F-RAM rather than a battery for save data, and I'm not sure if it can be fixed. OptOut 7,872 Member ·
Yeah, Sonic 3 + Knuckles should definitely be saving your progress as you go. Sorry bud, looks like it's pooped out on ya!
Nintegageo 515 Member ·
Crap. So would it be the Sonic or the Knuckles that would need to be replaced or repaired in that case?
DarkTone 847 Member ·
It should auto save. Very odd.
MachineCode 159 Member ·
The save feature is in the Sonic 3 cart. S&K doesn’t have it’s own save feature as a stand alone. When locked on to Sonic 3, it goes from 6 to 8 save banks and saves the S3&K game. Check Sonic 3 by itself and see if it has the same problem first. Nintegageo 515 Member ·
I knew the Sonic game wouldn't save but wasn't sure whether the S&K would override that with its own save. It is certainly the Sonic cartridge, bahh. Do your guys' copies work? Admittedly not sure with the chip whether it dies on its own due to age or whether it's just wear and tear with a well-loved game cartridge. Appreciate the help btw
MachineCode 159 Member ·
Mine still seems to work for now, but I almost always full run it. The save feature is just nice if I get interrupted and have to go do something. I’ll try and look into this more and see if I can come up with a solution for you and I guess eventually all of us
MachineCode 159 Member ·
Ramtron FM1208s-200CC Thats the F-Ram chip that’s in the cartridge. Part costs about $4 and change. Simple swap and you’re good to go, provided you can solder.
