Matting artwork

Does anyone here know anything about matting pictures / art? Are there any general standards to be followed regarding mat size and image size?

It depends on the image and frame. You want a balance between frame, mat, and image/art/document so that one doesn't overwhelm the other two. Documents like diplomas will generally have a larger frame and mat vs a picture or artwork. Posters, IMO, shouldn't use mats and use a minimal frame, though there are exceptions.

Yes, my dad owned a photography company for 30 years. I've seen how custom matting is done and can probably answer any question you'd ever have with it.
