I've been meaning to post this for awhile. They were personalized bronze, silver and gold NES carts given to the top 3 finishers in the 2014 NA Weekly Contest tournament. Besides the winners username, the label has the players scores for each round as well as their total overall points. It's also a fully playable copy of Double Dragon 2 with a customized title screen with my name and score on it!

This was one of the motivating factors to get me to compete in the contests! I had hoped to win a cart like this one day 🙂 I actually offered to help get some carts made after this had happened, but I don't recall the outcome. I'm not sure carts were ever given out again, amirite?  You have to love this thing!

  2. Oh man, this thread is great!  There are so many posts I want to reply to directly! I'll summarize here so I don't spam 😄

    PC Games:

My original copy of Doom II I ordered via the mail (I still have all of it, box included). I spent a lot of time playing this one! Also played it a lot via modem 😛

Aces over Europe (same as above, not sure where I got it though, but I bought it brand new). I spent a lot of time playing this one as well!

    Console Games:

The remaining items I have from my original NES set, which is almost entirely boxes for games. Many of these are smashed and would not be desirable to anyone, but I love them

I love prototypes and all of my protos are special to me.

    Misc:

Misc Dragon Quest items I've accumulated, including the silver PS4 DQ console (with metal slime figure and metal slime controller) and a slime mini figure

I love Tetris, so all of the Tetris games I've picked up are special to me and I'd likely not sell them.

The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker on GameCube, mostly. I've also been playing a bit of Super Mario Bros 2

I decided to Switch it up (puns are fun) and play something refreshing 🙂

Big THANK YOU to my Secret Santa, @Vectrex28!  The top of my wishlist was "something unique" from one of the resident homebrewers and Vec delivered bigtime with a Nintendo copy of Saturn Smash featuring handwritten greetings and hand drawn artwork.  So dope!

    4. I think I'd like to take another and better crack at learning Japanese as well.  I just wish I had a better memory/recall because for whatever reason I just can't get that Hiragana/Katakana down cold like I should...and that's their version of their ABCs right?  And I'd think it shouldn't be much different than back in 2nd grade when we learned our times tables right?

This has been on my list for a long, long time. Far too long, honestly. I haven't stuck with it long enough / dedicated enough time each week. I've found the hardest part to be finding other people who are truly dedicated to the task AND available/willing to work at it in a way that makes sense for all parties. It is doable though and I encourage you to keep after it! Are you starting with listening and learning to speak, or have you jumped into reading/writing first?  I am a fan of the Pimsleur series because I've used it in the past and it's rather consistent across languages in its approach. There's also a Nintendo DS game that helps you to improve your writing. I'd have to look up the name of it (I've forgotten).

This post really makes me wonder what my goals are... here are a few things I'd like to do:

Continue to travel (25/50 US states visited)

Become more proficient in another language (Japanese, Russian, Korean, or German)

Short term goal: finish Zelda Windwaker on GameCube... I never finished it during the original release 😛
