Does anybody recognize this side art from The Terminator (1984)? People in other lists have said its Asteroids, but I haven't found any cabinets that look like that online. Maybe it's a smaller space game I haven't come across.
Also, Teen Wolf purportedly has a Centipede in it but I have to watch the whole movie through to find it couldn't find it scrubbing
This is the kind of mystery that needs a bump. It's close in concept to Time Pilot, but the art is different. It's gotta be a shooter, right? Anyone?

Metroid Prime Remastered. The physical version came out today. It was surprisingly hard to find for whatever reason. GameStop just happened to have a couple extra copies. None at Best Buy or Target.
Obviously we don't know the numbers, but I wouldn't sweat about getting a copy. I think we will see more coming in the future and eventually a trilogy release. Plus, I guarantee a full 50% of these will be bought by speculators and readily available on the secondhand market down the road.

Man, the first one is tough! Love early Chili Peppers, but "In The Air Tonight" is a stone cold classic.
Nirvana is overrated and overplayed.
Coldplay sucks.
Daft Punk is decent, but Pixies are rock royalty.

Eh, goes either way I find. Mostly Nintendo stuff here, some Turbros on this forum though. A good amount actually, still waiting on Turboage ever since the fall of PCEFX.40 minutes ago, Renmauzo said:That is a sick kiosk!!! Don't know what to say other than 'you win'.@GexIf you ever come across a new Turbo/PCE forum, post a thread, I'd be there to hang out in a heartbeat.
I have a small TG-16 collection and would love to get more, but it's further down the list for now since I never played it as a kid and there's not a great way to experience it in HD right now. Once (if?) the Analogue Duo comes out, I'll probably prioritize that collection and will definitely be reading and talking about it. There is also an adapter coming for the Pocket, so that might spur my interest as well since the dock works pretty well.

I enjoy it. It brings me joy, therefore it is not meaningless to me. I can also separate expectations/reality from fantasy and accept that I most likely won't have a Stadium Events or a Speed Racer Exertainment combo cart in my collection. It doesn't bring me stress or worry knowing that. I still like having every other possible release that I can get in a console's available library.
It's all subjective.
I was really just talking about modern consoles (basically PS3, 360, Wii U onward). Retro consoles have a pretty defined and objective list of what was released during their lifetime. There are a few outliers, as you mentioned, but there is general agreement for 99% of the stuff. These newer consoles have way too many variations, limited runs, promotional items, etc to make full sets even worth considering, in my opinion.
Everyone is free to do as they like, but I consider it a poor use of my time to chase after the newer stuff and go through the mental gymnastics required to define a full set for these consoles. The fact that most of the shit won't even be playable in ten years since the discs/cartridges don't even contain the actual game software is just icing on the cake.

I love comparing the "standards" of what a "full set" is for older consoles to that of modern gaming. Specifically the whole "first version" being the TRUE copy of the game and all other games being variants and don't count. Or if the code is different then it can be considered a variant. Given how many times games can be produced with different version of the game (current patched version of the game) can lead to large number of variants.
What are people's thoughts on Minecraft for PS4. The first version didn't have PSVR compatibility on the disc. But if you own it you can download the latest version of the game and it will have PSVR compatibility patched into the game. Later on they released a version with the cover advertising PSVR compatibility with the disc having a version of the game with the compatibility. Are those two separate games? If you are a PS4 collector does that mean you only need the first version or either version. If you are a PSVR collector do you not include the first OG version of Minecraft?
What about a PSVR compatible game that states its compatible on the cover; but requires an internet connection to access the VR part of the game. What about a game that never mentions PSVR compatible but via a download (patch, "Free DLC", paid DLC) can have VR content.
If you don't include games that require an internet connection to have VR content do you then remove PSVR games that literally won't play because they are online only games that have had their servers shutdown? Does this mean that what a "full set" is will depend on time as at one point it would be part of the "full set" and then later it wouldn't be.
Do you include a game if there was no physical disc but a physical game case with a download code inside?
Do you include a game it's only purchased via online store? What if it's a foreign company with ESRB rating and region free. What if it's not ESRB rated but region free.
I'm really curious what people think. Personally I think if it has an ESRB rating with VR content (with or without internet access) it counts towards the NA "full set" and any variant is acceptable.
This is why "full set" collecting for modern consoles is meaningless. Not worth the time or effort, in my opinion.

I find games like this impossible to rate. Along with something like Pong, it's incredibly iconic and influential, but I have no desire to play it. 10 for historic relevance, 3 for actual gameplay.

I’d say Master System after NES. Trying to get all of them CIB, and I have around 30.
That's awesome. I've also been working on a Master System set. It's been really fun to trial all the games that I never played as a kid since I never knew anyone with a Master System.

Wow, I'm surprised this didn't get more traction. This is an amazing find.

It's getting there, I'm not confident I'll finish this year but I am more confident than I would have been last year. I do have a lead on 2 of the games I'm missing but I never like to get too excited. It will be very strange to only focus on newer releases even if they are still abundant, the cost and difficulty is just a different level lol.
I generally only collect retro stuff, but I branched out to PSVR just for the novelty and was blown away at how easy it was. Now that videogame collecting is a mainstream hobby, even the limited releases are readily available for prices near (or even below) retail. Add in the fact that many modern "collectors" are actually speculators buying multiple copies and it seems likely newer releases will be available in perfect condition in perpetuity. The likely future availability of new games and the rise of FOMO services like LRG kind of pushed me away from going after modern sets.
You have to be at least a little crazy and extremely dedicated to go after the retro stuff which is kind of what makes it fun.

I grew up in Michigan, so I definitely know what real cold is, but that doesn't change my opinion. I consider socks a necessary evil and avoid them as much as humanly possible. My feet long for freedom!

Not really a typical sort of thing to post here so not sure if it would be appreciated. While I've been filling gaps in my collection, I've always had one hole in the area decor wise, in that the clock itself was never game related at all.. So I picked up a stupid smart clock that I'd not suggest to almost anyone aside dumb people who are suckers for a theme like me It was kind of a pain to setup, but I like it a lot more and the coloring/brightness allows my aging eyes to see it from afar still, so that's cool. I'm selecting these manually so it scrambles each time but the auto transition is smoother, just didn't want a 10 minute video.
I removed the stuff from behind and cleaned up the cords and such after, but this is what it all looks like now.
Bonus pictures, I've been redoing some displays, I still have some work to do in each but I won't be able to do anything until the material comes in from various places, so this is where I stopped for now. To try to illustrate, most of these didn't have much (or anything) behind them, but I have a lot of various BS that had no home, so this is what the result was, of course it also meant having to buy extra stuff to then complete that, but eh.
The collection is looking pretty damn complete! Nice pics!

Haven’t been on a forum in years since NA shut down. Been collecting for over 10 years, mostly NES but have most other consoles. I have been restoring consoles and vintage computers for 19 years including mods, ROM hacks on carts, and all types of soldering. Happy to be here!
Welcome! What's your favorite console to collect for? If the answer is NES, then what's your second favorite?

Well, I only have one more game that's a major carry-over from 2022. I put a lot of hours into it in December, so I just need to pop back into it and-

...what the fuck just happened? It's a 15 hour long game?

Oh, you are supposed to play through it over and over again to get the full story and full experience. So... shit, now I don't know what to do. If I'm going to play through games 4+ times, I like to space those playthroughs out a bit.
I guess I'm marking it off the list for now, and I'll do playthrough #2 later this year, and the other 2 in 2024 some time. So, Nier Automata, done... kind of. For now.
Nier: Replicant is kind of like that too. The second playthrough is quite a bit different than the first, so I quickly ran through that, then just looked up the other three endings. I have no desire to replay a game five times in this day and age. Thank God for YouTube.

I have quite a bit more I'd like to pickup, but if I had to stop right now for any reason, I'd be content. I spent a few years collecting at a breakneck pace and don't have much desire to ever go back to that.

I don't know if it's a sequel or prequel, but I do know that my hype has faded pretty hard on this one. All the poor performing, low-resolution Switch games that keep dropping have really made me want to wait for a Switch 2. BotW may be one of my favorite games, but it's not like it was particularly impressive from a technical standpoint. If the scope of this game is even bigger, I can't imagine it will fair particularly well on aging (aged?) hardware.

I wouldn't worry about what other people think. If you feel you've completed a game, log it as such. The backlog thread is about as far from an actual competition as there is. It's just a fun way to track your own games.

Sounds like you are not ready to come back to the collectors market anytime soon. Understandable. We all have our priorities in life.
As for me, it's been over a year since I bought a sealed NES game but it seems like prices are slowly coming down on some games. So who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and snag one for under $200 and that will get me motivated to open NES games again.Yeah, it's been a crazy year for me. New baby (#3), new job, and a huge backyard renovation project. I love collecting and I still want to upgrade a lot of my NES stuff, but it's gonna be a while.
Hopefully we keep seeing prices drop and can snag some more stuff down the road.

Welcome! Sounds like you have some awesome experience with more obscure stuff which is always welcome.

I pretty much agree with what everyone else is saying: If you're starting from scratch, skip the full sets. Hunting them down is often more frustration than fun and they just end up filling space. If I lost or sold everything now, I'd get out of collecting completely and just buy what I plan to play.

It tore my heart out to vote against Africa, but Tonight, Tonight is one of my all-time favorite songs from a band in their absolute prime.

I'd love to see a solid method of playing the DS on a TV, but I can't think of an effective way for the touch-screen to be handled.
Tons of games demand that you maintain the touch-screen within the periphery of your vision and manipulate it with the stylus simultaneously. Even a tablet wouldn't properly replicate that (too much screen real-estate for twitch stylus movements, and too awkward to keep within your eyeline of the TV at all times.)
-CasualCart
The nice thing about the method that I linked is you can choose which screen (or screens) goes onto the television. You can distribute the screens in any combination, so you can just put the top display onto the television and keep the bottom display as normal with the stylus and touch screen in your hand.
Unfortunately, as someone who has never done any electronics work, installing the mod looks quite difficult.

I briefly glanced through my collection and noticed that Anticipation is another game with a TM next to the title. I don't know if it ever got updated to "R" but that might be a good place to look for a similar cartridge revision. I'm sure there are at least a few other games with similar situations.

Based on the ROM, it doesn't appear to be a software revision. I believe there was another cartridge we found that had a tiny label revision and was given a new code. Maybe @ThePhleo remembers or has it documented?
