Do LRG-distributed games like Gris or Metal Storm count for the LRG set even though they’re not numbered!

Just to follow on from Avatar’s post. This is what LRG puts on the non numbered listing:

“This release is not a part of the Limited Run Games Collection and is not a numbered release. We are distributing this title on behalf of 3D Realms. Missing out on this release will not compromise a complete Limited Run set.”

The only thing I dislike more than people who say “Stadium Events isnt required for a set” are people who say “You can’t just exclude SE from the set”

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a NES collector, so don't throw a pitchfork at me haha.

I was under the impression that World Class Track Meet and Stadium Events are the same game and just variants. So couldn't you have either game to make a set? Obviously Stadium Events would be the nicer one to have because of the history behind it.

    That's interesting. Apparently

This is the original PlayStation 2 Classic, re-released physically on the PlayStation 4 for the first time ever. This is not the 2020 remake.

Which begs the question - which is better, the remake or PS2 original? Anyone play both? Also, I wonder if PS2 games are becoming collectible similar to PS1 games? And, will LRG start releasing more PS2 and PS1 games?

    DAH_PS4.png

This is actually a pretty fun game for the PS2 and is super cheap (or was when I got it, haven't looked at prices these days). PS2 is getting some interest from collectors these days and I'm sure this LRG release will probably get more interest in the system.

I don't know if I'm just having a crazy theory, but I actually look at Sony collecting like car collecting. So you have all the old people that grew up on the classics like Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet, like the NES/SNES guys and now the younger generation are more interested in Sony because they grew up with the PS1/2 just like 20 somethings are interested in the Japanese cars of the late 80's and 90's. Just a crazy theory though haha.

  4. I'm not a mod or anything but I'd love to see all these "what makes a complete set?" posts in a separate thread because they're really interesting to get everyone's views and it will eventually be lost in a thread about Limited Run Switch games haha.

@Gloves is it possible to move posts from a thread to a new one?

It is definitely interesting to read what people are up to over there -- and there probably is money to be made paying attention to the general sentiment.

But I don't personally view widespread options trading as being particularly healthy... but maybe I'm just not cool enough 😛

Some of the Tesla stuff was crazy. Some people were either incredibly stupid or had balls of steel haha. I do like that most people post screenshots to backup their crazy options trade though.

I definitely view options trading as gambling. Some people are definitely making a killing off it because they know what they’re doing but the majority just seem like gamblers who have seen the stock market is currently like betting whether your team is going to win or lose.

I take the more fundamental/long term approach so maybe I’m not cool enough either haha.

Sadly that's all the stock market is.  Pile in, post hype articles, increase your target estimates and try to recruit more people to buy into it.

I wonder if a lot of gamblers have entered the stock market since the pandemic. Also combine that with Robinhood and WSB.

I’ve seen some crazy things over the years but valuations are so out of whack right now and it seems a lot of kids are getting involved that have no idea what they’re doing.

I sold out at the end of January so I could focus on paying off my mortgage quickly. I’m happy to watch the craziness from the sidelines.

  7. I recommend if you’re in the US and you think you might even slightly want this that you pre order it as soon as it goes live.

Pre orders for this went up on announcement here in Australia and were exhausted within an hour or two. No further pre orders have come up since.

This is Nintendo’s Christmas offering but no one will actually be able to get it. Classic Nintendo.

I have a flat screen Sony Trinitron KV-27FS100L.  It works fine with NES, Genesis, Saturn, and PS1 light gun games.  It sort of works with Master System light gun games, but a few games give me issues.  It does not work at all with the SNES Super Scope Six.

I also once owned one of the wide screen Sony Trinitrons with an HDMI input.  Not sure on the model number since I don't' have it anymore.    It was not compatible with any type of light gun.

Thanks! Looks like that model is basically the same as mine.

I must have had a faulty lightgun then. The House of the Dead here I come!

  9. I've done some searching around but can't seem to get a clear answer, hoping someone here can help.

I have a Sony Trinitron KV XR29M31 which has a flat screen and I specifically want to play Sega Saturn Japanese lightgun games on it. Is it possible?

A very long time ago I tried Duck Hunt and that didn't work so I'm wondering will this be the case for all lightgun games or just NES lightgun games?

Similarly, in many Asian countries (Taiwan is like this, for example) , everyone is always in everyone else's personal space, there are definitely multi generational households, and for the uninitiated, when two Taiwanense normally speak, you'd think they are having a heated argument about someone sleeping with the other's wife or something.

This made me laugh because it’s so true. There are quite a lot of Taiwanese in Australia so you get to know them.

My wife’s brothers wife is Taiwanese and when she talks to her mum it sounds like a massive argument haha.

Just read the news article posted. Umm yeah, sure the Trump administration might not support masks, but initially, neither did the WHO. The WHO made other blunders as well, going against doctor experts, just because the doctors were from Taiwan (I.e they made it political before it even came to the USA)

The WHO are a bunch of muppets that have no idea what is going on and continually flip flop on everything they say. Now they’re saying there shouldn’t be lockdowns. I’m glad my country aren’t listening to these clowns.

On another note, I get sick and tired of people always mentioning how the states handled things, what about Sweden? Smaller death rate? Did they handle things better, or is it because of differences in population size?

I haven’t checked recently but isn’t Sweden death rate like 8%? I think they have handled it badly, I’d hate to be living there right now. They aren’t a “success story” and I wish reporters would stop quoting it. Success stories are countries like South Korea, Taiwan, NZ, Australia, Japan, Vietnam.

Watch this space as the Northern hemisphere goes into Winter. Europe was talking about living with the virus a month ago. They’ll be in lockdown next month or I’ll eat my hat haha.

I'd call every single "official" retro cart released in the last few years a glorified repro.  Which is fine if that is the sort of thing you want to collect.

Yeah that was my thoughts too. So I don’t think there will be too much decrease in price for Shantae then.

  13. 2 hours ago, MiamiSlice said:

    I have a thread about this 🙂

The moment LRG announced the re-release I think the effect was priced in. The price of a loose cart has come down (from over $800 to under $600) but as far as I can tell a CIB Shantae is still going for over $2k. Seems like the hype around the whole series is still making the original desirable enough for high end collectors.

I don’t think we’ll see too much pullback on the CIB price because people still want the original for either their full GB CIB set or if they’re just curating a nice collection of GB CIB games then they want Shantae because it’s a good game.

Maybe I’m viewing this release wrong, but I kind of see this LRG GB Shantae as a legal version of a reproduction. It wouldn’t count as part of the full set if you had the LRG version over the original, would it?

    Awesome!

I hope to eventually start collecting the HK/TWN switch games, but won't until they become a few generations old, since there's so many of them, priced at full retail.

If there's some specific to that region though, it's definitely my first priority.

There's definitely some interesting stuff coming out from HK & Taiwan for the Switch the more I dig in to it. It will be interesting to see if these become hard to find because some only have a small run of 1000-2000.

I have also added a bit of a clarification on the term Asian after your question because it is such a big region to cover. Basically, I will be covering the video game standards Japan/China/HK/Taiwan but will expand to say India if they release an exclusive physical game.

  15. Thanks!

This includes all Asian regions. I think the majority of these are released in Japan with English but I think some might be HK & Taiwan exclusive.

Your question has now got me wondering how many are exclusive to certain Asian regions.

When I get a chance I’ll go through them and if there is more than a couple I will add an additional column to denote if it was exclusive to a certain Asian region.
