This week's result:
Question #25 (12/28-1/10) - When it comes to dragons, what game comes to mind?
1 Dragon Quest 29.0 2 Dragon Buster 9.6 3 Dragon Quest III 8.2 4 Double Dragon 7.9 5 Suishou no Dragon 6.6 6 Dragon Power 5.4 7 Ninja Gaiden 3.4 8 Dragon Spirit 2.8 9 Flying Dragon 2.1 10 Fire Emblem 2.1 11 Hiryuu no Ken II 2.0 12 Legacy of the Wizard 2.0 13 Dragon Quest II 1.7 14 Sansara Naga 1.6 15 Dragon Quest IV 1.4 16 Double Dragon II 1.1 17 Dragon Scroll 1.0 18 Dragon's Lair 1.0 19 Metal Max 0.7 20 Hiryuu no Ken III 0.6 Of course Dragon Quest won. I am a bit surprised to see Dragon Buster so high.
If the title doesn't make sense, a lot of these games have dragon related names in Japanese. Like Hiryuu means "Flying Dragon" (aka Hiryuu 1). Flying Warriors is apparently a combo of both Hiryuu 2 & 3, so I just left those Japanese names in there. Sansara Naga is an rpg game bout raising dragons. Metal Max has absolutely no dragons in its title, but the game's advertising slogan was "I'm tired of slaying dragons."
Next week's question: When it comes to Japanese-style, what game comes to mind?
This is an interesting one. Maybe something like Goemon?

I've never got more than $200 on either of those stages, so clearly I'm doing it wrong
In Waiters, you can actually just sit there without attacking and dodge all of the enemy pies - they'll run out after a while. Then you can take your time trying to nail them.

I was going to say that I forgot to post a few days ago, but it turns out that question 25's voting period is actually two weeks because of the holiday. So we have a few more days to wait for that.

Throwing some stats out there:
- There were 4 games that went unbeaten last year that had previously been beaten in every year from 2012-22. They were:
Ikari Warriors II, Jordan vs Bird, Tecmo World Wrestling, and Volleyball.
- TheGameDisplay (5th), McBryce (8th), mbd39 (9th), and Jandrem (10th) all finished in the top ten for the first time in 2023.
- There are only two games which have changed point values every single year:
Bram Stoker's Dracula (6-7-5-6-5-6-7-9-8-9-8)
Die Hard (6-5-4-3-2-1-2-3-5-7)
- There are still 33 games which have had the same point value every year:
23 one point games
Amagon, Chessmaster, Contra, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Double Dragon II, Duck Tales, Fisher Price I Can Remember, Galaga, Ice Hockey, Kung Fu, Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Monopoly, Ninja Gaiden, Pac-Man, Popeye, Remote Control, Super C, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3, Tetris
2 two point games
Duck Tales II, TMNT II
8 ten point games
Destination Earth Star, Dungeon Magic, F-117A Stealth Fighter, Flight of the Intruder, Hunt for Red October, Might & Magic, Roger Clemens MVP Baseball, Ultimate Air Combat

Anyway, I just knocked off The Three Stooges. Got me the best ending too, after a couple attempts. You need to average around $500/day to get the $15K needed for it. As such, it's best to avoid the Waiter and Doctor stages entirely. The free money isn't worth it unless the other options are bad, as although you can get a cool $1000 from it, you can also get as low as $100, and it's frequently on the low end of the average needed. The best option IMO is the Cracker Eating Contest, as once you get to the end, there's a bowl with one cracker. If you can beat the oyster to it, you get $60 for each one. It's really easy to get $500 on it, and I've managed as high as around $2500, and could probably have gone further if I didn't overshoot the damn cracker Trivia is good for $600 (there's a really good FAQ detailing all the answers, though after a few runs you'll have seen almost all of them numerous times anyway), and the boxing minigame is pretty simple - line up in the middle, jump anything in your way, and don't worry about hitting the ladders. You should be able to get back with time to spare - no weaving required. The safe seemed to be worth $500 every time I hit it as well, so it's also an okay option if the board is crap otherwise. All in all, it's a surprisingly decent game for what it is. I remember renting it once as a kid and enjoying it, and I enjoyed the hour and a half I just spent playing it (I managed to beat it my first time trying, but with the bad ending...took a couple rounds to figure the best tactics out). I don't think it's great by any means, but it's worth a run nonetheless.
As someone who has beaten this game many times, I disagree. The best stage to play is Waiters. It's very safe, and it awards more money the further you get into the calendar. Doctors is my second pick, although it can be easy to mess up. You just have to stay behind the gurney.

Instead of redoing it, I finished Uninvited. I cheated and used a walkthru haha. I forgot its a game where you have to slap a girl. Interesting title.
I always thought Uninvited was worse than shadowgate and Deja Vu. It just seemed a little wackier and less logical.

Ok Shooting Range is beaten legit. I was a good 3ft away from the screen with the zapper .
I ended up hitting all bottles on the bonus stage w/o missing to get the 10K. Ended up with 46,850 points.
Congrats! I was gonna say, it should technically be fine for the competition to beat it the cheap way, but I'm glad you did it the other way too.

91 points on New Year's Day? That has to be a new one-day record. In fact, I think I wouldn't be surprised if @Gloves (with 65 points) wasn't close to or beyond that previous record as well.
That would be very interesting to take a look at. I'd have to do a bit of work figuring it out... But, I do have a list of how many games we've beaten all together on New Years each year (licensed only, includes first 15).
New Years Day Completions
2012 26 2013 164 2014 158 2015 131 2016 132 2017 167 2018 122 2019 73 2020 68 2021 94 2022 65 2023 85 2024 97 ...

Phantom Fighter completed. Took a little less than 3 hours. Even knowing the game, some of the boss fights are kind of cheap (maybe if I had more upgrades, they'd be easier - but that would be longer).

Eh, I'm not sure that I want to have a bonus list this year. I'd like to actually finish the licensed list this time, plus there's a ton of bonus points already from the pain points.
