What’s wrong with the Crash Bandicoot collection?

The controls are absolute garbage making it nearly unplayable in any level that requires precision jumping.  This is even worse for those who played the originals enough to develop muscle memory on the platforming.

So far you've all posted basically nothing worth selling, get to work!

What are  you talking about?  Over in the Club section I've documented every single Barbie game available on the PS1.  Where else are you going to find this kind of information?  That has to be worth something, right?

This thread, and your post are making me consider the same.

Funny thing is that I tend to go through spurts of playing lots of video games, or watching lots of movies.  I've been playing tons of video games recently and I'm almost ready for a break.  So I might try to start making my way through this list.

    Let me get your opinion:

I ordered two things off eBay last week and both came with free shipping. In the listing shipping service is defined as USPS Priority Mail but when both items were shipped (from different sellers) both used Ground Advantage which is a cheaper service that takes longer. Both packages are now past there expected delivery dates and likely would have been here today or sooner with Priority mail.

Would you kick up a gripe with the sellers and ask for partial refunds for this? Both items were over $300 and boxed consoles.

I'm 100% fine with sellers using the cheapest shipping method possible.  But they should be open about that and advertise it that way.  It would be nice to have the option for faster and more expensive shipping options, but not required.  I'm not a fan of sellers advertising a faster shipping method, but using a cheaper method.

I think it's fair to at least message them about it and see if they are willing to work with you.  If they want to work with you, that's great.  If they don't, I wouldn't do business with them again.  I don't think it's worth going to war over.

  5. I don't want to pic Mario, but I feel like I kind of have to.  The series is just too big (especially if I cheat and include spin-offs).  The series is huge, and the spin-offs provide a large amount of variety and, in general, pretty high quality.  I feel like the other big series that I love have much smaller game libraries and picking Mario would give me more to do.

  6. While I definitely recognize that shelf from the old Family Video stores that I used to visit, I don't think their shelves were so unique that they would look unusual with signage or branding from other stores.  I definitely like the way it looks in the picture shown.

According to the Digital Foundry review, this is a great port and supposedly all of the sprites and cutscenes were not AI upscaled but, instead, hand drawn (or re-3D rendered) to fit modern pixel counts.  The side by sides are phenomenal work.  There's also pixelate-toggle option that will cut down the internal resolution and also scales the image output back to 4:3 so you can get a very, very close approximation to the original feel, so everyone can be happy.  This was also a port from the source code and not an emulator-wrapper implementation where special hooks in the code would change graphics and such, much like many of Nintendo's in-house re-releases.  I was very impressed with the package.

The only real gripe is that the audio is good and "sufficient" but the quality does not match that of a midi-synth device from that ear, like a Roland DS-55, which was used in the review.  However, this is also because they developers didn't want to provide audio recordings faking the audio generation, but instead, wanted to emulate the audio by playing the actual midi files. Regardless, there are few sound options, including Sound Blasters output and the end result is good, just not as absolute best as it could be.  But, according to the devs, that would have been near-impossible to properly emulate and for the purity of the release, they didn't want to simply replace the original code with WAV output.  I, personally, respect that.

    Here's the video.  It's worth a watch.

I definitely have high hopes, and everything I've seen is keeping me excited.  However, after the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy Remaster, I will always have a fear that the end product will be a disaster.

    8/10

I was thinking the score might be so high because of nostalgia... and it's been a while since I actually played it. But still... 8. Looking forward to giving it a good play-through now after reading all the posts, though.

Starting with that Adventure mode 😅

Haha.... this is me. Kind of. I got it for Christmas anyways. 😆

Played the shit out of it as a kid, but never had to defend it against MK64, or really bothered to compare it, really.

Kind of makes you wonder what happened to DK's parents? 🤔

I mean... Diddy's as well? They kinda gloss over that. Like.... yeah DK is Cranky's grandson, but what about Cranky's kid??? Did Mario fuck him up one day? I guess it could have been Cranky's daughter and DK's mom....? And DK's brother/Diddy's Dad.... where he at? I guess it could be DK's sisters kids...? 🤔

Maybe these questions are answered somewhere.... I only played DK64 for like 5 minutes and don't remember them discussing it in the TV series.

Cranky Kong's song is Donkey Kong Jr. who was in first playable in Donkey Kong Jr. (the sequel to the original DK).  Donkey Kong Jr. was also playable in the original Super Mario Kart as well as a few other games.  Donkey Kong Jr.'s son is the DK that is playable in Donkey Kong Country.  However, I always thought it was odd that he isn't referenced in DKC at all

I tried to google this question and I couldn't find anything useful, but yesterday through Digital Foundry I learned that there is a Dark Forces Remastered coming out on consoles very soon.  Has anyone heard any reasonable rumor or hint on any of these specialty edition sites that it might be coming to a physical form?  I don't think LRG has previewed this since I try to follow their news and, I think, Lucas Arts seems to primarily work with them.  Still, this might be independently published and if it comes to physical, I certainly want to pick it up!

I saw the DF Remaster a while back and I'm super excited for that one.  I haven't heard anything about a physical version, but this is the rare case that if a physical copy isn't available on day one, I will probably buy a digital copy just so I can play it.  If a physical copy comes out later, I will rebuy it.  I don't like doing that and I very rarely do that, but I've been wanting a better way to play Dark Forces for a long time.  I just hope they don't screw up the remaster.  It's supposed to be the exact same game with updated visuals and maybe some extras.  That is all I want.

They've done the same thing with the original three Tomb Raider games.  The first 3 games have been remastered into a single collection, but as far as I can tell, it's digital only.  As much as I enjoy those games, I'm not in a huge rush to buy the digital only copy since I've played my original copies very recently.  But I'm very interested in seeing the updated visuals if a physical version ever comes out.

They do put some work into the ports -- obviously the biggest "change" from the originals is that they are now in HD. Other than that, a number of news channels noted "quality of life fixes", as well as a rewind feature and save at any time feature. Also, considering an original NES Felix cartridge (just cartridge) sells for around $100, this is a wonderful way to get the game, as well as the GB edition, for cheap -- $35 -- well, assuming you're in the USA.

Depending on the game, the "quality of life" improvements can be a big deal.  As I've mentioned before, the Jurassic Park Collection from LRG allowed me to save my game in the SNES version of Jurassic Park.  Keep in mind, that the original SNES game had absolutely no save feature at all (or even a password feature).  That game required you do everything in a single sitting, and that game can take over 4 hours to complete normally (way more if you are not familiar with the layout).  They also added an in game map to replace the nothing that came with the original game.  Those were much needed improvements to a really fun game.

  11. I've never tried this one, but I have not had good luck getting into kart racers that are not Mario Kart.  I've tried the Crash racing series, and the Sonic racing series, and I just can't get into either of those.  I know that isn't a good reason to not try this game, but there are so many other games I want to play and I feel like when it comes to scratching the kart racing itch, I'm set with the Mario Kart series.

  12. Also, if you want to add this, I beat the SNES version of Jurassic Park on the Jurassic Park Collection for Switch.  I beat it the night I got it which was just a few months ago.  I know that doesn't complete the entire cartridge since there were several other games on that cart, but if you want to mark that portion of the game completed, you can.  I noticed the Doom Trilogy was marked 2/3 complete.  The Jurassic Park Collection on Switch would be 1/7 complete.

  13. I finished the main part of Mario vs. Donkey Kong (first 8 worlds and final boss).  You get to see end credits at this point.  After completing it you unlock the "+" version of each world which has completely different levels and boss battles.  I'm going to vote that the game isn't "completed" until all of the "+" world levels and bosses are completed.  There are also some expert levels that are unlocked after completing the main part of the game.  I don't know if these should count towards beating the game, but I plan to get through everything eventually.  I'm going to attempt to 100% the game.  I've been able to get a star on every level I've completed so far except for one, and I will eventually go back to that level.

I've been playing on "classic" mode since I want a challenge.  The other mode is "casual" which is the easy mode.

I'll leave it up to this group how they want to define "beating" this game.  If you want to say finishing the 8 main worlds and final boss, you can consider the game finished and check it off.  If you want to include the "+" worlds, I will let you know when I've finished those.  If you want to include the expert levels, I will let you know when I do that (if I'm able to).  I'm going to attempt to 100% the game regardless of how the group wants to handle it.

  14. These are more easter eggs than cameos, but there are lots of guest characters to be found in Duke Nukem 3D and the many add-ons (the Doom Marine being probably the most well known).

Does it really take a long time to get thier stuff?

Depends on the game.  Jurassic Park Collection for the Switch was about 3 months from order to arrival in my hands.  Other games have been much longer.

    I received 2 games today:

    • Castlevania: Advance Collection
    • Jurassic Park Collection

That sounds like a good day.

I got my JP Collection a while ago because I ordered it by itself.  I always loved the SNES version of JP and think it's hugely underrated.  I played through it the same night I got the JP Collection and I still love the game today.

My Castlevania Advance Collection will take a while to get here because I lumped it with 3 other orders, so I have to wait for all of those to be ready before I get it.

  17. I had the day off so I picked up the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake for Switch and I'm playing it now.  I'm past the first three worlds.  So far it's a nice improvement on the original.  The graphics and sound are fantastic.  The game still has a time limit, but the time taken to complete a stage is no longer taken into account for getting a start for each level.  This means I will probably try and 100% it.  I never tried to 100% the original because each stage had to be cleared in a certain time to get the start, and I lose interest when I'm rushed.

While I played and enjoyed the original on the GBA, I don't believe I ever technically beat it, which means this game might be another on the list this year of games that I've completed for the first time.

  18. I beat Metroid Zero Mission tonight.  This is the third game that I've beaten for the first time so far this year, so it's been a good year for my backlog.

My stats weren't great, but I managed to do it without a guide.  As I've mentioned before, I've made it to the space pirate ship in previous attempts, but I never bothered to actually finish the game.  As much as I enjoy this game, every time I play it, it reminds me how much better Super Metroid is.
